Sword of the Stars Argos Naval Yard review

A great expansion to a great game! Includes a tons of new features like ship mission sections, weapons, and tech. I mean, a propaganda ship! how can you go wrong with that? :)

The only thing that would have made it better would be a new faction, but that can be excused.

One thing this expansion doesn't do is make anything in the game any clearer. It’s still a complicated game. So if you've had problems figuring out this how this game works, or just lost interest because of the slowness of the game-play, the expansion is probably not going to help. But if you enjoyed the original SotS or any previous expansions and don't have this one, You need to get it!

This is a worthy expansion to Sword of the Stars, adding more weapons to enhance your ships and expand your space empire. In every expansion pack the makers add a lot of little extra's further progressing the story of the universe, and this one is no different.

This DLC adds a lot of new technologies that are interesting and fun to play around with - my favourite was the Rail Cannon, which can hit things at amazing ranges. There are also some new scenarios to play if that takes your fancy. In my opinion, it's worth it if you're a fan of Sword of the Stars.

The third and final expansion pack for Sword fo the Stars! Add bunch of new technologies and ship sections. This is a must have for SoTS collectors!

The last expansion for SOTS, this one adds a lot of good techs and weapons. The Rail Cannon is devastating even in cruisers. This expansion adds more deadly weapons to your arsenal to make your ships even more deadly. If you like SOTS this one you will not want to miss.

For the price it was pretty good was hoping for some ground shaking new tech but that is not always what wins a war.

SotS Argos Naval Yard - Expansion to SotS Complete Collection

By Huscurian posted 9th September 2011

Sword of the Stars Argos Naval Yard is an expansion, expanding on the universe of the games created by Pandora Interactive.

Argos Naval Yard not only provides you new weaponry, but also offers a few more races, stronger tech tree development, and pushes the game to maximum fun as you tinker with each race. This game is definitely a fun experience!

I highly recommend to any strategy fan to pick up SotS: Complete Collection and purchase this and you won't be missing out on how much fun you'll have playing it for hours! To the stars and beyond!

An excellent capstone to the original Sword of the Stars compilation, adding new and interesting technologies and improvements to the game. A must-have for the complete SOTS 1 experience.

This little pack expands on an excellent game bringing new technologies, and with those technologies come new weapons and hulls to use. It doesn't change the game mechanics, but rather expands on the game giving you a broader range of options when dealing with the alien races.

Excellent tactical ship combat series although fleet sizes are limited. Think attacking waves versus epic battles. Excellent research tree. Has 3-D strategic map, which hinters at times. Weaker diplomactic options compared to other games like Master of Orion series. Each race has individual characteristics which adds to re-playablity.

ANY is a strong add-on to an already solid game. While a few of the new techs can be used early on, the add-on really shines in the late game when you get access to all of the new toys. Great gameplay, great community, great developers. If you have SOTS, you need to pick up ANY

Some nice new stuff

By wiersmaster posted 1st August 2011

Unlike previous expansions, no new mechanics or races are introduced in this expansion. Instead, several new and interesting techs, sections and weapons are added. It is therefor more a content package than a full fledge expansion. This is also reflected by the lower price. Because of some of the more interesting new 'toys' and low price, this package is pretty much a must-buy for anyone who enjoyed the original SotS and it's expansions.

I'd advice Argos Naval Yard to anyone who had fun with Sword of the Stars and it's expansions

This expansion is well worth the purchase. If you loved the earlier expansions this is a must have. New ships, space stations that can be placed in any system even ones that you haven't colonized, new techs. If you purchased each individually make sure to also get this one.

I'm a huge fan of space sims and since the flop that was MOO3 came out; I haven't touched any other since for fear of being disappointed. This game raises the bar and it's gorgeous to look at.

I played this game for hours and hours without realizing the passage of time.

This is a mini upgrade. It is meant so add more game options in the form of Ship sections, Tech, weapons, badges and a couple campaigns. This is a good upgrade for the price and if you own the other expansions this rounds out the game in a good way.

Played Murder of crows? want more? well here it is a new upgrade for every race in one little expansion, loads of new ship sections to give you even better customization more weapons and new controls.

This gives the game that little extra you've been wanting and it blends its self into your existing knowledge of sword of the stars beautifully giving you the impression that you haven't just bought an expansion more like your researchers have been very busy ....SYSTEM UPDATE

Argos Naval Yard adds no new races or major game mechanics, so you can safely skip it and still consider SOTS a complete experience. That said, this does add a variety of minor enhancements to each races' ship selection. The propaganda ships and new specialized defense platforms are particularly enjoyable. If you enjoyed SOTS and want a few more ship types to play with you may as well pick up ANY.

ANY is a great expansion to the already massive SotS universe. It adds new ship designs and technologies and adds much variety to the already diverse universe of SotS. ANY is a must for SotS owners.

A cheap add-on with enough content to offer new alternatives and expanded gameplay. SOTS already had enough variety, but more, balanced content never huts.

By GShock posted 20th February 2010

The final expansion has brought a lot of new goodies and despite the numerous problems (and the increased hardware demands) it's still a great fun to play with, especially in multiplayer.

There are countless bugs still, even at this late stage of development and the attitude of the DEVs doesn't really help improvement. I'd recommend this game only to fans of space era but there's definitely better products elsewhere even in the very same Paradox universe.

Argos Naval Yard is the third, and final, expansion to the Sword of the Stars series. Although it contains significantly less then the previous two expansions, it is still far more complete then many expansions companies release today.

It contains many new weapons, technologies, and ship sections. If you enjoy Sword of the Stars even the slightest bit, Argos Naval Yard will greatly enhance your gaming experience. I highly recommend it to everyone who already has the previous expansions.

As with all the expansions in the series I feel the content here needed to be put in the original game to make the replay value higher, but with the low price of the game and its expansions they equal out to be the cost of a standard major developer release. So buy this with all the other expansions together they make the game whole, but beware if you multiplay with people who dont have the expansions as they different versions can not play together.

This mini-expansion is more of what you would expect. There are some new technologies to improve your ship design (weapon and components). My personal favorite new ships are the Propaganda vessels that can improve your colony's morale, or lessen the morale of nearby enemy colonies.

Planet colonization and development are still the same.

For larger games, the interface could still use improvement; when you get 40+ colonies, it would be nice to have a list of what ships each colony is producing on a single list rather than going through planet by planet. Overall, it's a worthy addition to the SotS universe.

It's a nice little expansion. Graphics are beefed up a bit and it has some nice new tech. Not all anti-matter era, no, some of it you get right away! Keep in mind that it upgrades your game to 1.7.1, where you will no longer be able to play with those of 1.6.7 or lower. There isn't a whole lot to say about this; it adds more guns! What more do you want? :D

Even if game is not fault free, A.N.Y. is a must buy for SoS bundle owners. It contains 100% of stuff which should have been part of the original SoS in the first place...

Fantastic expansion. If you own the other three games then this is a must have. It ties every thing up into a nice little bundle. If you thought that the game was fun before, wait till you try it with the new expansion. The improved weapons fire looks impresive.

Without adding any major game altering additions, Argos Naval Yard (ANY) seem to fill tiny gaps of what has been needed in SOTS for a while. Just what's to be expected of a DLC, balanced and useful additions to what already works.

Sword of the Stars Argos Naval Yard review

By Mister_Pibbles posted 18th June 2009

Sword of the Stars Argos Naval Yard brings a slew of new tactical options to the already tumultuous Sword of the Stars universe, and will be a treat to fans both new and old.

ANY also brings with it some upgrades to several of the particle effects - heavy beams have never looked so deliciously dangerous!

Despite the addition of powerful new ship sections and weapons platforms, ANY doesn't feel forced - each of the new systems blend seamlessly into the current gameplay, and each has a definite purpose and utility.

All in all, ANY is a must buy for anyone who owns the rest of the series - a beautiful cap stone for an excellent series!
