i like this style a lot but i must add that silent hunter 3 and 4 were better games. this last one has some bugs and problems. i bought it as a set all together 3-4-5 in a bundle. i guess there are nice mods to improve this version.

Do not buy this game, if you want a good u-boat simulator, buy silent hunter 4. This game is more of an arcade game than an actual simulator, it is full of bugs and requires lot's of mods to be able to play this decently. Also to play this (campaign and online) you must be connected to internet, so if your internet bugs out or ubisoft servers are down, you can't play it.

while it has stunning graphics i found it frustrating to play compared to previous silent hunter games. wandering around first person has an appeal but its a frustrating gimic at most of the time

Silent Hunter ® 5: Battle of the Atlantic Gold Edition review

A great game game that adds a lot of dept compared to Silent Hunter 3, but also leave out a lot of the challenging gameplay that made its predecessor so great.

A game that can be played days on end with a lot of moments where nothing happens, which make the action all the more intens. The graphics are so good that sometimes you just play it to enjoy the view.

The graphics are quite good. Thats the good point.

Now for the rest

Certain info is hard to find out if can be found at all like the dept below keel which is very important when close to coast and a destroyer is in the area.

Trying to get down the conning tower hatch so you can dive and then finding the right officer in the boat to get a job done like silent running or sonar sweep.

I would suggest goinging to subsim.com for mods before even attempting to play this sim.

You also need an internet connection or you can't play this game at all which means you spent your hard earned money on this game and can't paly it if phone line down, internet down, or if the Ubisoft server is down for whatever reason.

I'm going back to SHIII & IV

The game looks really good but that's it.

How this managed to get past QA is a mystery, it just have so many bugs and it's really incomplete, yeah, the campaign ends at '43 not '45.

The only way to get this game in a somewhat playable state is to get 10-15 mods from subsim.com.

Stick with Silent Hunter 3 and 4.

Silent Hunter ® 5: Battle of the Atlantic Gold Edition review

While Silent Hunter 5 has very good graphics, it is sadly lacking in the controls department. If you have played earlier games in the series, you will find that the new control system that they have started using in Silent Hunter 5 is of great frustration in desperate situations. Indeed you will find a great many features and helpful information quite lacking in this installment.

Some of the new features are also quite frustrating. E.g the "walk in submarine" feature gets quite old after a few times of stumbling about on the bridge of your sub, desperately trying to get down the hatch whilst being bombarded by enemy destroyers so that you can dive your sub and activate "silent running" which you of course have to find the correct officer inside your submarine to do as there apparently are no shortcuts for it!

It might sound fun but the fact that you have to do this manually each and every time and that there are no shortkeys to your substations is very annoying and severely cripples the gameplay value atleast for me.

All in all I find Silent hunter 5 to be quite poor and the extra graphics does not amend for the lacking gameplay. I think I will stick to playing Silent Hunter 3.
