Spellforce 2 Gold review

While this game offers some of the same playability as the original, there are a few things that are lacking. Not being able to customize a character from the beginning can be frustrating, but the action points allow you to have a character with more variety. There are times when the play may seem slow, but as will all RPG's, the filler parts only last for a few minutes and then you are back in the action. Overall, a very enjoyable game with loads of replayability. I would recommend this for all RPG fans.

I like this kind of rts game mixing rpg element all the time. But I must say I am a little disappointed because the strategy I can use in game is too shallow to satisfy my aspiration. Just producing as mamy units as I can, then throwing all the units into the enemy group to get the victory. But if you regard this game as a pure rpg, it still is a good game to play.

Spellforce 2 is a mix between Action RPG and RTS. You have heroes that can progress and equipped loot from fallen enemies but also you can built a base and an army like in an RTS. The game is quite long and the gameplay mix between RPG and RTS is quite good in this game.

The sequel to an already great game makes the experience even better! I love the series, and love this one the most. It's such a great game that I would recommend it to absolutely anyone. All of my friends agree, this game is the best in the great series. I definitely recommend that you pick this one up to experience the awesomeness that is the Spellforce Universe!

Excellent game and a very creative mixture of different generes. Especially the campaign is gripping. Expect many game-play hours. The only negative side (apart from some bugs) is the fact that you can't freeze the game to give orders in advance - it's non-stop all the time and sometimes you're just constantly watching/ clicking the status/magic icons. Anyway you get used to it. I clearly recommend it.

Spellforce 2 it is game with very nice old-school charm - blending very well rpg aspect, in form of many ways to equip your heroes and a skill tree - with some classic rts mechanics (collect resources, build things, recruit units). The music is fantastic and the story very good if wasn't by some more tedious quests. Overall Spellforce still a very nice game that you try it.

The World of spellforce beckons once more. Spellforce 2, like this first, is a RTS-RPG. Although the graphics are a bit dated, it won't effect your enjoyment at all. This gold pack has in it Shadow Wars and the addon/xpack Dragon Storm. It does seem a little short compared to the first but keep in mind that another xpack is planned but wherever or not it actually comes out I don't know. All and all, a great game but I suggest getting the universe pack over this.

A Coop Review

By Erelenus posted 14th February 2012

It can be a fun, though somewhat easy time playing this game in coop mode. There's several frustrations and glitches strewn about, but nothing too game crippling. Though, we experience quite a bit of lag from time to time, but nothing has truly interfered with our gameplay thus far. It's a bit simplistic, but there's a ton of content and it's a great way to get newbies into real time strategies (Just be sure to start them with expansion characters [They start at 15] so they have an easy time for the first 10ish levels). It's not the kind of game that you stay up all night playing, but loading it up for an hour or two a night with two good friends is fun enough.

If you like the core game and you want to play coop, go for it. Though, fair warning, the coop consists of SEPARATE maps you play, forming a cohesive, full campaign (With a terrible, bare bones story). To acquire and turn in quests, you have to play the Westguard map on your own, then join up to play the scenario maps together. This confused me at first, but once we figured it out, it was smooth sailing.

Also of note: You need to use Hamachi to connect (Or a legit LAN connection). Their servers are permanently offline.

A unique blend of RTS and RPG elements with a huge campaign as well as other modes of play. There are many optional side-quests that can be completed in different order or not at all. The graphics are pretty nice too. However, if one is skilled at micro-managing a small group of RPG characters, then non-hero units are almost unnecessary. If one is playing the game as a true hybrid, then it feels rather like Warcraft 3, for better or for worse. Overall, the games flaws don't really affect it's enjoyability

A great sequel to the original Spellforce. The graphics are a lot better, and the game itself is just as fun to play as the original. The mix of RTS/RPG in this series helps it standout amongst many other games in the RPG genre, although I think there could be a better balance of RTS and RPG elements.

A decent RPG/RTS blended game. It makes quite some tweaks-skill system,rune,etc-comparing to Spellforce 1, so depending on how much you love Spellforce 1, you may have different opinion regarding those tweaks. However, on its own, Spellforce 2 is still a nicely done game, it also features better graphics, sounds and AI. It is a worthy try if you're bored by the traditional RPG, and you just don't find many of this kind in the market.

Well after Playing the game for few hours came to these conclusions.

+ Descent AI from ally/Enemy side*

+ Ability/skills quite wide selection.

+ Plenty of side quests to keep the game moving

+ Good selection of weapons and armors

+ Interesting Strategy system with limited Resources so you cant camp in one place for hours :)

+ Good storyline i personally liked it.

In overall The game offers challenge and fun with descent maps to play on against good enemy AI and small bosses. alot based by players actions in fights.

I'm new to RPG/RTS gaming, my only previous experince being King's Bounty Crossworlds GotY edition. The two campaigns in Spellforce 2 are interesting and can be difficult at times. Having never played the original, I can't compare them. I just know that for 15 USD, this game ate up a lot of my gaming time and I still haven't tried any of the free play games yet.

One bug, the camera, is still out there. I had to go to the Spellforce website and download the patch. Otherwise, bug free play.

As a whole, the second game in the SpellForce series is a massive improvement over the original one. Nearly all of the bugs that were present in SpellForce 1 have been fixed, and one could see that this second installment got a lot better development process.

The developers have really done it right this time, by hiring better actors to do the voices, and the graphics were really up to standard way back when the game was released. The music feels epic this time around, and it is really well thought of (the theme of the music). The character development is also improved... To cut it short, pretty much everything is an improvement over the original game.

There's a single bug that may appear sometimes, the camera may get stuck when talking to somebody... Best to save before every conversation.

This package comes with two games, in Shadow Wars you play as a Shaikan that tries to find his roots, to be precise, fight them. And in Dragon Storm, you are on a bigger quest, to save the whole planet from the power of the Archfire, that started the mess and all wars in the first place.

If you liked SpellForce, you'll love this one. Get it.

The game is a relly fun rpg. It is definetly a little dated but it is an excellent blend of RPG and RTS. I do think that the game was watered down compared to the first Spellforce though.

To anyone considering buying this - I would heartily recommend the Spellforce Universe bundle here on Gamersgate as it provides both the original spellforce with all the expansions and Spellforce 2 gold, giving you the choice of the original or this version.

Personally, I prefer the combat and skill system from Spellforce 2, but as the above reviewer said, your mileage may vary depending on your tastes. As is, I found the sequel and it's expansions to be a solid experience into the world of RPG/RTS hybrid gameplay.

Overall my impression of this game is mixed - it has a very long playtime, but in some respects it's a case of quantity over quality. The RPG elements feel like a not-entirely-successful attempt to cram Infinity Engine city exploration and dungeon crawling into an RTS engine, while RTS elements are serviceable, without much to distinguish them from standard genre fare. The side-quests are frequently boring fetch-quest fodder. The graphics are fine for their era. The storyline didn't hold my interest and the voice-acting is poor. The interface will be pose no problems for RTS veterans, but there are a few minor quirks (e.g. teleporting the party between portals is unnecessarily inconvenient).

Overall this is an okay filler game if you're looking to kill time between more compelling releases. You get a huge amount of pretty good gameplay at a budget price, just don't expect A-grade quality.

A good game with a lot of replay, especially thanks to the included expansion pack with the game. It combines RPG elements like loot gathering and character development with real-time strategy elements like base building. It's a good game, but the character development has been changed from the first game, with it possibly seeming less in-depth. Some people may not like that change.

Still, the game'll offer players many hours of enjoyment.

Very disappointing. Fortunately I didn't pay much for this title.

If you're looking for a pure-combat game, this might be for you. Unfortunately, I found the story severely lacking, character customization poor, the camera was worse than the one in the first Neverwinter Nights, and the game leads you by the hand far too much.

This isn't a role-playing/strategy hybrid at all. It's more like Command and Conquer without the fixins.

Stay away if you're looking for a game with depth.

Definetly a great game for those who enjoy games like Age of Empires, and Civilazation. But things that I enjoyed that was better than most stragety games was the character custimazation available, and all of the character development and different weapons and magic which are usually unseen in most stragety games.

5/5

GREAT GAME!

Horrible game.

You're forced to include as part of your side some really stupid characters. There's no way of playing this game solo, as much as you might want to.

Completely pointless plot, no reason to play free games and no multiplayer to speak of.

All skill trees are equivalent. There's no real specialisation to speak of. What you're left with is one of the worst RTS experiences I've come across.

Decent strategy game if you can call it that, I kind of like this game mostly due to the fact that you can develop your hero rather nicely compared to most strategy games. It's better than Warcraft 3 when it comes to the RPG elements for sure, I even tend to almost totally skip the base building party and just run around with my heroes killing stuff and bring in the useless cannon fodder to destroy the remaining structures. If you like RPG strategy games I see no reason why you wouldn't like Spellforce 2, I actually don't know of any game that beats it in this genre. Just don't expect the actual strategy part of the game to be anything except gather & build which leads to rush as in 90% of the other strategy games. But as said the hero part makes it fun to play at least for me.

Spellforce 2 Gold review

By Toll posted 4th June 2009

In short, Spellforce 2 is far from the same game as Spellforce 1. Long gone are the Runes used to summon allies and workers. Instead, you have Heroes by your side, and if they were to die, you can resurrect them yourself without having to run to a Rune monument. That is only possible for a limited time though (three minutes), and if that time were to run out, the game is lost.

When it comes to armies, as stated, you no longer occupy Rune monuments. Instead, you run across existing settlements that you simply take over. In general, though, it works mostly the same; your workers collect resources and you build armies. Perhaps the biggest difference here is that you can recruit units from more than your monument now; you have a limited amount of unit types in your headquarters and can recruit other types from other buildings.

The skill system is also completely different. Instead of having seven general skills and three or four focuses in each, you now have Combat and Magic, which further divide into Heavy and Light combat and World and Divine magic. Each of these then divide further into two each, and then further into three each. Further, all skills only have three levels, and all three levels must be learned before you can learn the subskills.

In addition, all magics are now learned through skills. There are no magical scrolls to be found anywhere. There are also no building plans or unit plans to be found anywhere either. This is, of course, both a blessing and a curse; you can no longer get stuck because you accidentally missed a rune or building plans, but you can also no longer get ahead by finding the hidden items.

When it comes to combat, the point-and-click system still remains. Some perks include better AI, as well as both defensive and offensive stances, which means that your avatar will no longer simply stand by and watch combat from a few feet away, and your healers will no longer run into the middle of combat (unless you want them to). There are also wands, which allow your heroes to cast weaker versions of magic much like archers fire arrows. These wands can be both with harmful and helpful magic, such as the Healing wand.

All in all, it's a rather different experience compared to Spellforce 1, with both ups and downs. My own vote is 4/5, but, as they say, your mileage may vary.
