Not much to it. Kind of boring actually.

There's not a lot to say about this game. You control a samurai through a very linear level, pausing to slice up bad samurai along the way. I wasn't expecting much, but I was hoping for a little more than what I got. It's definitely not a fast paced hack and slash. Combat is fairly slow and involves two different attacks, neither of which is really any different than the other in appearance or effect. Gameplay is basically like this: You walk along the path until a samurai or two jump out at you. You repeatedly click your attack buttons (it doesn't matter which ones since as I already stated, they seem to have the same effect) until the samurai is dead. Then you continue walking along the path until a new samurai or two jump out at you. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I think I paid a dollar or two for this, and maybe it's worth that much. At least it doesn't take up much space on my hard drive. But would I buy it again? Nope. It's just too boring. I'm giving it two stars for the effort someone put into making it. The game plays smoothly and I didn't come across any bugs, so that's a good thing. And the graphics although nothing amazing by any means, were pleasant enough. But whoever created this needs to go back to Game Design 101 and learn what makes games fun.

Samurai II: Vengeance review

This game is worth the price of admission for the artistic direction alone. Though it uses similar artistic techniques to games such as Okami and Viewtiful Joe, it still does not detract from the fact that the environments and art direction of this game are great. That said, the character models are a bit lacking in the same pop and detail as the rest. \r\n\r\nAs for gameplay, it\'s a pretty standard action brawler, complete with unlockable upgrades and combo trees. There is a fair bit of strategy to both the combat and the level system, though it does get a bit repetitive after a while.\r\n\r\nThe repetitiveness is probably the game\'s biggest downfall, for as nice as the art design looks, it can only go so far. There are only a handful of enemy types, and the flow of gameplay is very straight forward: slash, kill, move on. \r\n\r\nThough it is highly repetitive, the game is still a ton of fun. Anyone who enjoys a good brawler and has the stomach for the rather gory random death animations will enjoy this game immensely.

Though quite repetitive, Samurai II is a heck of a lot of fun. The gorgeous music and environments transport you to a medieval Japan with an style that owes more than a nod to titles like Okami and Viewtiful Joe.\r\n\r\nHowever, unlike those mostly family-friendly titles, Samurai II is rife with gore. Action gamers who enjoy the finishers in titles like God of War and Darksiders will probably enjoy the gruesome variety of random kill animations. \r\n\r\nIt\'s not the kind of game one tends to play all at one, but approaching it one level at a time makes up for the repetitive nature of the gameplay. Interesting comic-book cutscenes and a decent variety of enemies spice things up, too. Your character also unlocks better combos as he progresses. \r\n\r\nSamurai II is an all around fun experience, and for those interested in a straightforward and fun action brawler, you could do a whole lot worse for seven bucks.

I bought the game for the graphics, with a lower price.

I finished it so I can tell you that it's a short but immerssive game.

The story is told through a comic book, which is fun and I just love the slow-mo when you kill nicely someone

It tends to be a little bit repetitive (kill enemies, push lever, kill more ennemies, upgrade, kill.....)

My controller was detected but the button didn't worked, I had to use Xpadder, because I didn't saw the "input" tab on the launcher... seriously that stuff should be in the game options.

So it's a very good but short beat them all. PLay it if you like japanese universe.

I see this game as a prototype for maybe a samurai 3 that could have the stuff that where missing, for me, in the game : more plateforming / puzzle solving / trap escaping because killing is fun only for a while. More combos would have been great with more levels but it was still enjoyable. Oh and a guard button, eolling is awesome but I'd like to have a guard.

SO overall it's a great game that has the basics to be a very good title

The graphic style is simply amazing. Just the right amount of gore. The critical hits make me chuckle. Controls a touch sticky but barely noticeable. Comic book-style story telling is amusing yet not completely necessary if you don't care about the story. Overall a great hack-and-slash game that might hold up for a few years.

This game surprised me a lot. I bought this one because I like samurai world and so, but I have to admit this game is very funny, more than I expected. The controls are very simple, directional keys, one for the shop, one more to roll and the two buttons of the mouse. It's pretty simple, go forward, fight, go forward, fight, well, you know, a beat'em up. But it's not repetitive because you can buy new movements with the acumulated points you got from your fallen enemies (mana or something like that). Also you can buy more life and other stuff. Another thing really fantastic is the graphical quality, it's simply pretty good. Like a comic. The music is really good as well, japanese style of course. Final bosses and good things you can find in a good beat'em up. In summary, if you're looking for a good arcade game, with no complications, and a very good comic-style graphics, this game is a very good option.
