One of my least favorite Rot3k games in the franchise but nice to have on my PC as I no longer have the older systems to play the older versions. You can't be anything but a ruler in this one and the battles are somewhat of a hybridized real-time set up. A good, solid game, but not as good as its predecessor. Still, if you enjoy grand strategy and warfare, with a detailed logistical system through city management, this is an enjoyable game. For hardcore fans of the series, this is a bit of a letdown, but if you're new to the series this might just be the best one for you.

Fantastic gameplay and in-depth information regarding the history of the Three Kingdoms. Got me addicted for quite a bit.

One of my favorites

The first thing that comes to mind worth mentioning is the graphical style: the game's map is designed to appear like a traditional Chinese painting, which quite adds to the immersion in the period. RTKXI remains challenging the whole way through, as even smallish enemies are a credible threat in the hands of the AI, which, while not perfect, is one of the best strategy game AIs I've ever seen. The turns become a little repetitive as time goes on, even though you can (and, in fact, must) cede control of part of your country to AI governors in the middle to late game. The best part I have saved for last: RTKXI has, hands down, the best combat system I've seen in a turn-based game, and that includes the Total War series.

An excellent strategy game that will keep you addicted for hours -- provided you can stomach the steep learning curve. The tutorial itself will take several hours to play through, and that is just the beginning.

Note that ROTK XI is a kingdom based game, meaning you choose a side, not a character, to play as. It is a more strategic game, similar to ROTK IX, rather than a character based RPG-Strategy hybrid like ROTK X and VIII.

The game is incredibly slow paced, but for those who love deep strategy games where plans must take a long time to be successfully implemented, that isn't a bad thing.

Combat is intuitive and very entertaining; it plays out on a beautiful 3D hex map which spans the entirety of China; separately loaded battles from earlier ROTK games are a thing of the past. Combat is fun, and having the right officers use the right tactics and strategies are decisive, just as they should be.

Character customization is here in full force, along with many different start dates and dozens of different forces. Provided you can get past the steep learning curve and at the strategic meat below, you can get hundreds of hours out of the game.

This game is an excellent development of the series -- if you liked rotk 7, then while you will find many changes, some good and some bad, you will certainly enjoy what is on offer here in the eleventh installment. The new minigame-esque duels and debates I could have, honestly, done without, especially since they aren't really optional: you can avoid ever using them, but they are useful if you can succeed reliably at them. Still, it's better than 9 and certainly worth a look or a purchase. If you're a fan of the series then buy the thing as soon as you can. For all its foibles it is excellent and I bought it as soon as I saw it was on sale here!

I enjoyed the game at first, but then I started seeing the annoying and persistent AI diplomacy bugs. Why must I, an independent lord, pay someone to maintain an alliance with me? Also, I can't even get friendly/trusty allies to aid me, so that's my main problem. The AI is bugged relations wise and needs to be patched up. I'll give it a 2/5.

I used to be a huge fan of the series back on the Sega Mega Drive, so when I saw this on Gamersgate I thought I really got to give this a try, not much has changed from the days of the old mega drive, but it was enough for me not to like it as much. I can't put my finger on it, but I just can't get into this like I did the old games. It feels familiar but I think its just that little too much to do which ruins it for me.

A great turn-based strategy game, with two minigames that are action-based (and which you can choose whether you want to play them or not). The graphics are beautiful and the atmosphere is absolutely stunning as well.

The tutorial does take several hours to complete, but is well worth it. The game is complex but not tediously so. Highly recommended to all fans of KOEI, China and turn-based strategy games, especially at this price.

A superb game for those that like turn-based stratergy games, it's also great looking and runs extremely well on my 5 year old machine. That said, this game is no walk over, it took me 3 days to complete the tutorial to my satisfaction. The learning curve during the 1st senario is also somewhat steep(especially if you generate your own chars.) so if you dislike having to restart I'd say be careful that you are aware of exactly what you're doing before you click the "end turn" button.( I'd hate to count the number of times I've done this!)

A very exotic game (for us Westerners I mean) and a really fascinating one. RTKXI throws you deep in the convoluted struggles and forgotten battles of ancient chinese history. At first you will get lost between all the cities and officers with similar names. But if you persevere, you will be amply rewarded.

The interface is clumsy and may superficially seem overly complex (yet fascinating - in its own way its a real insight of the oriental psyche!).

With some practice, it is an exclusive (and somewhat austere) delight to play with myriads of generals and governors each with their own strengthes and weaknesses, to conquer the fabled cities one by one and sloooowly grind the way up to the glory of the imperial palace.

What an awesome game! I've been looking for an English version of this game for years, since I was familiar with the title in the late '80's or early '90's. The game balance makes playing this game a dream. Once you understand the mechanics, its a piece of cake to get full-swing into the game. But don't be fooled; its huge. Getting through a single starter game has take days so far, and I'm not half way through yet.

Completely compelling and very addictive, there is are so many characters that it easily accommodates strategy and role-playing. I find myself following my key characters, and their offspring as the game advances. If you have ever loved an epic, turn-based game, you will kick yourself if you pass up this one. A true classic.

Of course, the question begs: Koei, when will you update Genghis Khan or L'Empereur for PC?

A very good surprise so far ! I love the game's Ancient Chinese ambiance, art and music are great, game is very good. Some review describes it as very complex, but it is pretty logical, it just need a brain lol - and less than some other Paradox games ;-) The real difficulty for us westerners is to grasp and remind the chinese locations and people names, as there are many of them. Else there is some mm when you have a big territory, but nothing unmanageable, as there are many screens and a complete online help.

Anyway tutorial and manual are complete and clear. Technically the game is smooth and don't need a powerful rig, only problem for me was that the in game movies don't play...well I do without (and I can play them directly with WMP outside).

All real strategy buffs should try it, and moreover it's cheap!

4 stars 1/2 aren't possible, so I put 4.
