Resident Evil 5

Rating: 4.2 (159 votes cast)

The biohazard threat has not ended: Just when it seemed that the menace of Resident Evil had been destroyed, along comes a new terror to send shivers down player’s spines. Chris Redfield, returning Resident Evil hero, has followed the path of the evil literally around the globe. After joining a new organization, Chris heads to Africa where the latest bioterrorism threat is literally transforming the people and animals of the city into mindless, maddened creatures. He is joined by a new partner, Sheva Alomar, who lends her strength, intelligence and sharp-shooting skills to the mission.  In order to survive, Chris and Sheva must work together to take on the challenges of discovering the truth behind this evil plot. Utilizing a revolutionary new co-op mode of gameplay, players will be able to assume control of either Chris or Sheva and experience Resident Evil in new ways. In Resident Evil 5, Capcom will have players fearing the daylight as much as they have feared shadow in previous games.

Co-producer and series veterans Jun Takeuchi (Lost Planet) and Masachicka Kawata (Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles) unleashes an unprecedented level of fear for the next generation in Resident Evil 5, the sequel to one of the highest-rated videogames in history, according to Metacritic.com and Gamerankings.com. Promising to revolutionize the series by delivering an unbelievable level of detail, realism and control, Resident Evil 5 is certain to bring new fans to the series. New technology developed specifically for the game, as well as incredible changes to both the gameplay and world of Resident Evil will make this a must-have game for gamers across the globe.

The latest in the Resident Evil series, which has sold over 34 million units since the original game was released in 1996, as well as spawned a multi-million dollar trilogy of films from Sony Pictures. Resident Evil 5 will revolutionize the Resident Evil series, just as Resident Evil 4 did.

Features

  • Chris Redfield, protagonist of the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, returns
  • Chris is joined by new character Sheva Alomar, an African special agent tasked with investigating the epidemic
  • 2 player co-op online gameplay means that players are not alone in their fight against the horror lurking around every corner
  • New enemies bring new challenges: speed and intelligence make adversaries as dangerous singly as they are in groups.
  • An arsenal of weapons at the player’s command to keep the evil at bay, including knives, pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles and more.
  • Lighting effects provide a new level of suspense in both harsh light and deepest shadow
  • True high definition gaming on multiple game platforms, using an advanced version of Capcom’s proprietary game engine, MT Framework, which powered the next-gen, million-plus hit titles Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet and Dead Rising.

Resident Evil 5 review

Resident evil 5 is fun. I've play'd it in coop (and co op is always double fun). But it's not quite what i expected.

When i bought RE5 i tought about Survival horror-kind of- fun. But it's not.

Dont get your hopes up, there is no jump scares, there is nothing from survival horror at all. This is more action based game against zombies. And talking about zombies the game provides a huge vareity of them, from simple -i'm running at you to bite off your head- kind of zombies, to zombies on motorcycles, with guns, with guns and helmets, with guns and helmets and sunglasses, zombies on motorboats... ok so maybe their not zombies but virus infected, but the game makes you doubt the "reality" of it.

But all in all, i suggest you to buy it. It is a good co op (and there is not enough games today with a really GOOD co op)

But when you DO buy it... think of it as more of a action, not horror.

Have fun and Good Gaming

As these Res games get better graphics they seem to lose some of the charm and spirit of the original. It isnt a bad game but it isnt a game that made me want to keep playing until I reached the end.

Pretty solid Resident Evil game. It has drifted a bit from it's survival horror roots in this one and adds tension through intentionally obtuse controls (no movement while attacking) and the restrictive camera that never allows you to see things coming from behind. Though different, it's still enjoyable and the addition of co-op is a nice change of pace from previous outings.

The story is pretty standard Resident Evil fare. Slightly confusing plotline with B-movie acting (on purpose). It has solid boss fights, but not as good as RE4. The mercenary mode is a lot of fun and I wasted hours trying to get the highest ranking in each one. Overall, this game may irk some RE traditionalists, but it's a solid addition in the evolution of the franchise.

I really enjoyed RE5 but agree with others that i enjoyed 4 alot more. Still a solid release. Looks really nice maxed out on graphics. Action is enjoyable. I was lucky to grab this on sale. Got myself a bargain. Thanks Gamersgate!

Very fun game. Play it on Veteran mode if you've played the previous RE games. And just like RE4, this one has good replay value - complete the game and you unlock things like unlimited ammo.

Pretty fun though not as good as Resident Evil 4, make sure you have a consistent co-op partner before you start playing through this game because single-player sucks. Also buy it whenever it's on sale because it almost never goes on sale.

RE is becoming less reliant on tension, and more reliant on action as the series progresses. This is especially manifest in RE5. Yes, there are zombies on motorbikes, and rail shooting scenes, but it's a fine game.

It's also the first RE title with co-op, and really shines when played with a buddy. The robust weapon upgrades system introduced with RE4 is present, and there are multiple entries in each weapon class(pistol, shotgun, rifle, smg), so there are are plenty of options for customising loadout.

There are a couple of niggles: primarily, the inventory is horribly small and the maps are small and linear, and single player component isn't as good as in RE4, perhaps due to the presence of the other character (computer controlled) even in singleplayer, which undermines the tension somewhat. Still, a great game!

Great game, well optimized for PC. The game is fun, but as an action shoter, not as a survivor horror. The graphics are amazing, really well done, the sounds are also excelent. The game has an interesting plot, but not incredible. It has some strange parts, strange things happens, I know it's all fantasy, but sometimes it's too unreal. But, anyway, I recomend this game for who wants a solid third person shoter, because the mechanics of the game work just fine and it's fun to play co-op, with a friend or online.

I had a PS3 briefly and RE5 was one of the games I really liked on it, but I think the PC version is the best. Any PC gamer will know there is just no comparison with the better accuracy you get with a mouse and keyboard versus a gamepad. Much more precise shooting, this is especially evident in the fast paced mercenaries mode. What makes Resident Evil 5 so much fun to play is the way it's impossible to know what's coming next.

The real stand out reason to buy this is the co-operative gameplay. It is also one of the best console to PC ports in recent years and if you never played it on the console and you have a decent PC then this version has the edge.

This is easily one of the best 2 players co-op games outta there, if not THE best.

The story pits Chris Redfield, famous S.T.A.R.S. member, and Sheva Alomar, an african agent, against a new strain of the Las Plagas virus. During the course of the game you will come across a multitude zombies and B.O.W.s like you've never seen. Also, the comeback of a series' longtime villain is due to hype you up as the game progresses. Plot-wise, it's brilliant!

Graphics:

Neat, beautifully crafted and seamlessly optimized. The game is due to work great on newer and older rigs alike.

Sound:

The sound effects are nothing rememberable, though they do serve their purpose.

Gameplay:

Survival horror at its finest! You'll find yourself scouring the deepest bowels of the earth for that extra cartridge or that additional clip you know you will sooner or later need. Fights are a thrill, which, coupled with the co-op factor, are truly enjoyable.

To sum up, I give it 4/5, and say it is a must have for anyone looking a great co-op experience, or even a Solo one, especially for the price tag.

The game takes places Africa, the two special agents have been sent out to capture a criminal. Unforeseen stuff happen, and the two agents are now in a country swarming with zombies. Nothing special here, though I don't necessarily view it as a bad thing. I wish the plot was a bit more mature, but it suffices.

Now the first thing you'll run into, that might, turn you off a bit, is the extreme narrow FoV(Field of View). It's so narrow that I had to take a break from the game, because I felt so dizzy and nauseated. Luckily there is a fix, if you go to widescreengaming (google it), there's a hand program that you can download that will fix the FoV. But it's still a minus.

The second thing that annoyed me was the fact that weapons, that you'll find in random locations through out the game, will only be able to be picked up by one player. That, combined with the fact that ammo also only can be picked up by one player, means that you can't, in an efficient way, have the same type of weapons as you co-player. I feel that that is a major blow to co-op. Now it's not necessarily a don't-buy point, but it's a minor annoyance that easily accumulates into you and your buddy fighting over what weapons you want to use.

The third problem, is the extremely linear nature of this game. Now it's not necessarily a bad thing to be linear. But this game, doesn't even make a try at concealing it. It's immersion breaking.

And the last, but not least major annoyance that I had. Was the fact that there are too many cut scenes. I include the "interactive" ones as well. That are also annoying, they essentially require you to quickly tap keys in order to progress through the cut scene. It doesn't work very well on PC.

Otherwise it's an OK, co-op game. I'd say that if you can pick it up for less than USD $15, it's a worthwhile investment, with hours of decent game play. But don't bother if you don't got someone to play with. These types of games are best played in co-op.

Resident Evil 5 review

The quality of this game is solid, and Capcom should be proud of themselves for the performance this game achieves running on the DX10 pipeline. Call it the world of lowered standards but I for one welcome a DX10 title that steadily runs at over 60FPS.

Here is what my (probably most people's) gripe is:

This game cannot decide whether it wants to be a survival horror game or a zombie shoot em up game. This game can't help but to feel somewhat like an arcade adaption of Resident Evil-- The chapter system really removes the player from the game and reminds them that they're just blasting their way through a level.

Speaking of blasting, the game's control scheme plays poorly for mass-zombie shooter game. I couldn't help but to feel the game would have felt much more natural if they removed the 3rd person perspective all together. For the style of gameplay RE5 has to offer, not being able to move while aiming is unforgivable and a questionable design decision. Also, running and turning seemed very rough around the edges and could have used more tweaking for the PC. It should be noted I used KB&M as opposed to a gamepad of any kind.

Having to create a Games for Windows Live account in order to save local data is laughable-- that just seemed absurd to me, but I didn't mark the game down for it.

Directional audio is present and acceptable, but some of the zombie and weapon sounds come up a bit flat on a good sound system.

It doesn't live up to most RE titles but seems polished enough to be worth $15.

All in all, 3/5.

I'm very glad gamersgate had this game on sale! I've been waiting for this title since this title is already on PS3 and I've seen how nice it was made.

I'm a fan of Left-4-Dead series because of the "coop" theme. Well I'm a fan of all games that can be played on "coop" mode such as "Greed: Black Border", "Neverwinter Nights 2 and expansions" to name a few, so I'm really glad that "Resident Evil 5" is now geared on coop mode since it really feels more realistic.

Resident Evil 5 is more of like Left-4-Dead series because the missions, even on single player mode, you still have a companion controlled by AI which makes the game feels more comfortable and realistic since you feel secured that you have a companion to save you in case you made a mistake and you are in a pinch.

The graphics is superb specially since RE5 supports DirectX 10, but surprisingly, it isn't slow even on low spec PC.

They also maintained the original feel of the RE series; such as the way they presented the menu, the voice that says "resident evil... 5" when you press the start key etc.

I really recommend this game to all, may it be an RE fan or just about anyone. I gave it a 5 star rating as it really exceeded my expectations.

Happy gaming to all!
