GAME SUMMARY

Reign: Conflict of Nations

Rating: 3.5 (543 votes cast)

Reign: Conflict of Nations is a large-scale real-time historical strategy game covering three centuries of medieval Europe. The player becomes a monarch testing their skills by controlling one of 26 unique fractions as they develop smart economics, work political maneuvers, maintain thoughtful diplomacy, take care of resources and wage war. As the ruler players have absolute command and the ability to thrive or fail and die.
Reign: Conflict of Nations allows players to have a well thought-out and historically accurate system of building and assigning labor forces in cities, a large selection of scenario-based and random missions, an expansive and realistic technology tree, more than 150 types of military units and elaborated graphics and animations which bring the war to life.

It is the year 1350. A terrible plague was born from the bloated belly of Asia… The Black Death emerged in the Genovese cities of Crimea, crawling on to Istanbul, and finally reaching Italy aboard merchant ships. After wreaking devastation upon Germany, France and England, it turned East, flooding into the Baltic lands, and soon reaching the borders of Russia…
On the vast lands lying between Krakow and the golden domes of Moscow, the plague gathered its last rotting harvest and vanished into dense forests of Russia. There, on the outskirts of Europe, lie the lands of Russia and Poland, destined to bring down the tyranny of the Golden Horde and the chivalric orders, to fight for freedom and independence, and survive the deadly struggle for dominance which spreads from sea to sea.
The dice of fate have been cast. The new empire shall carve its path to greatness, and reign over the conflict of nations.

Reign: Conflict of Nations review

Exactly as the "paper games" of the same kind, very challenging and tactical. Hours of fun, battle and brain storming to conquer and not be conquered.

Like a Paradox title.

Reign: Conflict of Nations follows the formula of the popular Paradox games Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings. It's a grand strategy game set in Eastern Europe. In real time, you manage a realm of your choice, it's policies and troops. Pause at any time, give orders and watch it all unfold. Be aware that this game does not have a tactical part (like any Paradox game, but unlike the Total War series). Battles basically have you watch two numbers dwindle until one side wins.

The map is 3D and looks a bit like Civilization IV. The game works fine on W7x64 and can be played in resolutions up to 1920x1080.

Recommended to grand strategy fans and those interested in Eastern European history.

Reign is a surprisingly decent grand strategy game, reminiscent of Knights of Honour. While it may not be as good as greats like EU3, Reign is certainly good enough to have an enjoyable time with.

The graphics and interface are up to par. I did find it a bit boring, but as someone not really into strategy games, I still found myself entertained, and that's saying something.

!C does it again - a decent strategy game that is not quite as good as many others so the question is who has time for it? If you are interested in Eastern Europe then this is a must buy but otherwise a few play throughs will give you all you need of this game. My favorite was playing as the Lithuanians because I've never even considered doing so previous to playing this game.

This is a kind of cross between Europa Universalis and Knights of Honor and indeed it covers a similar time period(though limited to Eastern Europe) and has a similar map based interface. It's a RTS in the broadest sense like EU and you have all manner of tools at your disposal to build up your provinces, armies and send out diplomats, spies and merchants. If you've played those other games mentioned you'll know what to expect. Graphics are nice and personally I enjoyed the overlooked focus on Eastern Europe here. The big problem is that the AI isn't very good, but if you handicap yourself by not exploiting the AI weakness too much(you'll discover it early on) and maybe pick a smaller kingdom, you'll find the game enjoyable. I gave it a star more than it probably deserved because I enjoyed the setting and presentation more than others may.

while it is no sid meiers game this is definitely a good civ game. seeing as it is not the genuine article it does lack a bit of the polish, but that is easily made up for with price. if you are looking for something that isnt by sid this is definitely a really good choice.

Reign sounded like an interesting game to me. But it didn't fascinate me for too long. As others stated it's comparable with Knights of Honor, which is the better game.

I liked the idea of playing in Eastern Europe which is an area many games leave behind. The historical detail is quite good, handling could be better, graphics are okay.

Like someone else mentioned, Reign really does remind me of Knights of Honor, a hidden gem of a medieval grand strategy game from 2005. However, Reign limits the gameworld to a small part of Eastern and Northern Europe, unlike KoH, and it just doesn't flow as well as that older game. The historical detail in this game is excellent, but it has a few flaws and a clunky at times interface. It's not a bad game, though. Fans of historical grand strategy games will enjoy this, but other games have done the same thing better.

Not a bad game though the immersion factor makes the user interface a little difficult. The options and paths in this game a great but limited to the area, Eastern Europe.

If you have this game and find it difficult, but enjoy the style, I would recommend Knights of Honor.

While not as good as EU3 for example, Reign is definitely a rally nice game. Its theme is rare and the level of historical detail impressive. If at all interested in the genre you should get it as a way to cover both the specific timespan (before EU3's timeframe) and the region, which has not been adequately covered by other strategy titles...It might also be a good warm up for CK2 :)

Reign Conflict of Nations is a game which I can recommend.

Pro

A almost unknown period which contains some of decisive conflicts between the superpowers moscow, lithuania and poland

A good, dark, medieval atmosphere

many political choices

Cons

Battles are tiny and sometimes unexplicable

reign is a good game but takes a lot of getting used to and some times your given certain tasks to do with not enough time to do it in.theres also a lot going on all at once then the next thing you know your getting attacked left right and centre aswell as your hierachy dying every so often so you have to replace them . but all in all not a bad game

Vary nice strategic game of eastern Europe. Much better than Knights of Honor. Good flow for a high level strategic game. The game has character, town management and research. Battle is a little simplistic but if it was any other way the game would drag on.

Potentially a great game. Let's see if the developers actually patch this one. Their prebious game (High Caliber 7.62) also had a lot of potentially but was never fully patched in the English version. Until then, Reign has several flaws with how you manage troops, flaws with diplomacy, and an AI that basically follows the old "gang up on the human player" to achieve victory--not much more finesse than that. Too bad as it is a beatifully rendered game and of a region that doesn't get enough attention in historical based games.

Knights of Honor for 2010?

The gameplay of Reign: Conflict of Nations and Knights of Honor are both quite similar - the main focus of the two being character-based warfare in the middle ages. Reign, however, focuses not on the entirety of Europe, but rather on the Northern Crusades around the Baltic. Players have a great number of states to choose to play as, and despite some interface quirks, obscure mechanics, and general lack of overall information, the game is solid. While it won't be winning many awards, Reign is a solid game that is also clearly worth the price tag.

The game is kind of basic in the way that it is not very detailed especially in the millitary area. I am kind of desapointed by the military aspect of the game it is not realistic and you could lose your entire army in a single conflict thats if not your entire nationa and game over. Diplomacy is expensive but more realistic then the military.

Basicly the economy, technology are kind of acceptable. But the millitary was horrible.

However, the game will be appealing to grand strategy players who dont care much about every detail like battles and micromanagment aspects.

The dynasty aspect is nice where you can have family but the warefare and military bad.

I give it 3 out of 5

a very nice grand strategic games with Eastern Europe Theater settings. I like to play a lot as a small Dinasty. It concludes Crusader Kings Dinasty building features with freedom for character building through level ups.

There's no tactical battle, instead it use a simulated battle, I really like this feature as it generates quick pace strategy games not to bother with micromanaging every single battles.

The town management, character bonuses and abilities was spectacular.

If you ever play Crusader Kings or Knight of Honor this will be your strategy games of choice.
