Prince of Persia (Mac) review

By mercilessrobot posted 13th December 2011

The mac version of PoP has some issues with lag that I wish weren't there. It is an incredibly fun game. At times when you are moving really quickly and performing spectacular platforming feats, the framerate will suddenly drop leaving you in a bad position. I found that I would die occasionally because of this. Pretty unfortunate. My hardware isn't a slouch either. I have a 2010 17" macbook and am running with medium settings. Weirdly, lowering and raising the settings don't really affect the framerate. That tells me there is something strange with the port. I know that it is using Transgamings tech, so the emulation is getting hampered somewhere. Still fun and cool. Just something that a potential buyer should know.

Fun platforming without the frustration

I'll begin by saying that this is somewhat a casual game in the sense that you cannot die. Or you "can", but you're not really punished for making mistakes in this game. Those looking for a challenge might want to look elsewhere, but for those of us who don't have a problem enjoying good graphics with slick gameplay and a nice story, this is the game for you.

The gist of the game is this: Go around the palace, admire the surroundings, do some platforming, do some fighting, kill a bigger monster/boss and collect light orbs. Essentially it's just this, but if you still possess your inner child then the feeling of the adventure is more important than the ultimate goal. You'll enjoy the trip if you let yourself :)
