The Promised Land review

By OFYankee posted 2nd May

Promised Land is a very casual based game that follows the time management genre, but without being timed. I purchased this for my wife and she absolutely loved it because of the relaxed gameplay. This is not a game for those looking for a challenge to get things done in set amount of time. Game length is descent (around 8 hours) to complete everything. Graphics are cute and fit the setting. There is a mini game that follows the Angry Bird game, but it happens rarely, but does add a little something to the game.

Recommend it to anyone who enjoys kingdom building games that are very simple and relaxing.

A good casual city building game

I enjoy playing city building games, and this casual title was no exception. The cute style graphic also interested me. Since this game was on a 50% sale I got it and I don't regret it much.

The gameplay is quite nice and simple. You are given some task e.g. you need to build a house and on completion you get rewards, There are some timed task as well. But fear not even if you don't make it in time, you will still get the reward, you just forgo the bonus. There are no fierce penalties in this game, so you can play on your own pace.

The colonist gain experience on the task they do and specific type of colonist are better at doing that particular type of task e.g. a farmer is better off working in the field. Also each colonist have some management criteria such as hunger, likes and health. However management is not so brutal as in other city building games.

There is a mini pirate game which is "like" angry birds. But that didn't interest me much( and am not fan of angry birds either). My only gripe with the game was it was too short "for me" and not much replayability.

However this is a game worth getting esp. if you see it in sale. So get it and get building.

Never even considered a casual game before

I enjoyed every moment of The Promised Land. Before this game I had never given the "casual game" genre the time of day - and with good reason, as 99% of them look like they were knocked together in an afternoon and certainly don't justify payment to play them. I was, however, seduced by the pretty colours and cutesy graphics of The Promised Land, so at about £3 I thought I would take a chance and I'm so glad I did. Sometimes I just don't feel like stretching my brain and want a game that will just wash over me. There are strategic elements, and there are timed challenges, but even if you fail the timed challenges, you won't feel too downhearted as you still get enough of a main reward to want to complete it in your own time. The sounds are great, and the music is so relaxing. Graphics are..well, of casual game standard of course, but above average for one, certainly. This seems to be one of the latest games from Alawar, and if this is the direction they're heading then I'll be looking to get more of their casual games to play alongside proper games. I would point out that the pirate attack mini-games are not "kind" of like Angry Birds - they're EXACTLY like Angry Birds. However, that's the only downside to an otherwise extremely addictive and deeply relaxing game.

Nice simple game.

you have to give tasks to your villagers to build up your village, such as collect resources such as food, wood, stone, ore.

you can unlock/build(/repair) buildings to help advance your little settlement.

as you build up your settlement you can advance further on the map.

you can also trade goods with the capitol and take advantage of good shortage to make some nice cash to buy certain items you need or to get more villagers.

also, you can get attacked by pirates, you then have to fight them in a "angry-birds" kind of mini-game.

all in all its a great little game that will keep you occupied for a good couple of hours
