Hearts of Iron with the CORE mod is phenomenal! The technology tree requires challenging strategy and planning. It is much more balanced than HOI2 (that game is insulting). Not sure about HOI3, don't wanna take the chance. You'll be thrilled if you buy this game, nuff said.

Hearts of Iron is a great game alot of fun. t's a great game at a great price. I've noticed some issues where if you try to change history too much (playing as Germany and getting an allies contry to grant you military access will cause the game to hiccup and you won't be able to use diplomacy again. Other than that it's really great!

The first incarnation of the ultimate WW2 strategy game. Imo of course. This game will draw you in with ease, prompting you to spend countless hours playing the game. Infact I cant remember going two years without buying another game, thanks to this little baby.

This game is more action oriented than other Paradox titles and its short time-span is perfect for shorter games. It will appeal more to those of you who prefer their games to to be exciting.

For me its underlying strength is its simplicity. Too many games now-a-days try to be overly complex or clever. Though the game has undoubtably been over taken by the sequel it still a fun way to spend an afternoon trying to conquer Russia as Italy or Germany as Poland.

This version has all the accumulated fixes and enhancements and an updated manual. I dare say alot of people will overlook this title, but as the price its worth it for a few weekends of anyones time. Though if you are a novice to strategy games or a newcomer to Grand Strategy titles, it is a great place to start.

One of my all time favorite games. I purchased it way back in the early 2000s. So many days worth of gameplay. However, HOI II is a much better game. Don't be like me and get stuck playing HOI for years after HOI II came out. I do have to say that the gameplay is much easier in HOI. For the new strategy player this would be a good game to get your feet wet.

Hearts of Iron was one of the hardest games that I have played. The AI for the game is not what is hard, but the learning curve to understand how to do anything. The game provides a nice tutorial mode, but even after you complete this, your head will still be spinning the first time through an actual campaign. After you do get past the steep learning curve you will be in for a big surprise on how much there is to do in this game, and how fun it truly is.

Hearts of Iron is a true classic. Taking the best of various board games, melding it with classical music and battles on an epic scale.

Choose from the obvious nations to the obscure during this grand conflict, research your technological priorities, build your armies, name your ships.. it is very involving, perhaps overwhelming at times but it's also rewarding!

The only game in this genre to beat it, is perhaps Hearts of Iron 2.

Excellent game, 10 out of 10, this is version 1.6c and is very smooth to play and does not have stability like the original release did, someone has done alot of work making this one of the best LAN games of all time.

a typical war will last about 40 to 200 game hours so its not suited for online play but is perfect for LAN play, learning curve is steep, the game stays very close to history unless you make some big moves and cyhange the way the war unfolded.

God bless whoever patched this game to this version.
