Pirates of Black Cove review

Overall this is a cute pirate adventure game with both real time strategy and role playing elements to it.  The price tag is a reasonable $20 but bear in mind that there’s not much to do after you beat the game.  To see if your system can handle this beast, I recommend [LINK=/index.php/downloads/category/8-Strategy?start=20]checking out the demo[/LINK] before buying it.  If you like pirates and don’t mind some cussing and juvenile humor, this game will be right up your alley.

It looks like a fun, little Arcade Game. Fortunately it is NOT like SM Pirates! with the same 3 Missions.

Human Catapults for Boarding, Seeker Missiles are a unique idea,

but there are massive problems:

No Tactics required. Simply sail near your enemy and click mouse-button.

No Wind.

It's quite difficult to Target Enemies an Land Missions when they are near.

There is a pause-function but you can't Target anything.

It is NOT playable with the 1.0.5 patch (my version was already patched to this). At some point of the game (Mission 5 or 6 for me but it seems there are even more broken Quests) you simply don't get any missions anymore and no more entering (= right click for Billboard, you don't get into Buildings) Strongholds - game over.

This problem is quite old and well known, but still no patch. So i have no choice to rate with one Star. I hope Publishers finally understand that they don't have to sell alpha or beta Versions of their games.

The game is whimsical and silly but I cannot enjoy it because of game-killing bugs. The first time through I was completing missions and having a good time until the game just stopped giving me additional quests. I read some forums and I was not alone in experiencing this and the prevailing opinion was to restart or reload. I was forced to restart the game and I ran into the exact same issue after completing a different quest.

I cannot really recommend the game due to the above reason. Even with four patches in place they do no seem able to address this problem.

Fun Adventure game AAARRRRRRGH!!!

From the sea battles to the bad jokes, this is a great game. Missions are not that complex and repetative but it gets harder as you go. Land battles are a lot like command and conquer/war hammer, where your main guy is the "heroe" and you have minions to control and do your dirty work for you. Sea battles are my favorite and I can not wait to see how far I can get, and by that I mean the biggest and baddest ship I can buy. All and all lots of fun.

This game is lovely to look at but incredibly boring!

The graphics arent ground breaking but the art style always gives your eyes something attractive to look at.

The problem with the game is that it becomes repetative and dull after an hour of play. You sail around gathering missions from factions and those missions comprise of sailing to place, deploying your piratey troops and doing battle in a simpler way than even the simplest of RTS games.

The ship to ship combat is merely a matter of pointing where you want your guns to fine and clicking. There is no real strategy to it.

The RPG aspects while initially a little interesting quickly becomes pointless as levelling up is less than exciting.

All in all this game is very much a spectator sport where as its nice to look at, just not much fun to play.

Very nice game for all people likes pirates. As a pirates' ship commander You will fight on land and sea. On sea - in arcade mode, on land - in simply rts mode (no build options, just fight). It is funny game with many humour and funny quests and missions. Creators should pubsilshed this game more polished - my first action after click on shortcut icon of game was downloading patch with size.... over 900 MB!!!

But belive me - it is really worth to wait for it. You may also check my gameplay here:

What it lacks in depth it makes up in charm. Pirates of Black may possess a ship-load of cheesy delivery in its dialogue, an ocean of cringe-worthy pirate jokes and a barrel of cliche characters but this belies what you can expect from the game once you've made it past the introductory level.

At its core, the game is a combination of strategy, RPG and arcade adventure game dunked into a Pirate themed world. Though most of these aspect could be considered -lite, overall the game provides an amazing amount of fun for 20+ hours. Which is good value for money given the price. You should note that despite the slowess of your ship in the early part of the game, once you've managed to get to the other factions, buy bigger and faster ships, upgraded the best weapons, sea combat become so much fun. Its probably the best aspect of the game.

The underlying story varies from fine in parts to very good, the lack of variety or real decision-making leaves immersion on the back seat. Though to be honest this is not main reason to play the game. Whats more land combat is probably the weakest part of the game. Strategy is foregone here in favour of massed mob strikes against hapless enemies. However, the sheer variety of units you can recruits at the end does make killing your enemies somewhat interesting.

Overall I found this title to be more of a good fun distraction, which would probably suit younger players, who havent seen or heard all the pirate gags before. If you are expecting some serious strategy/adventure fest you will be disappointed.

If you desire a distraction from your serious nightly/weekend fix, with an amusing story and a good amount of fun action, you could do a lot worse.

Not a pirate simulator, but a pirate arcade game!

Clever, funny, and artfully done. Controls are a breeze to learn...speaking of breeze, the wind does not come into factor while steering your ship, so if you want a sailing game, look elsewhere. The world is very colorful and full of friends and enemies and humor. Progression seems to take a while and land battles especially can feel somewhat a drag. It is no cakewalk though, some missions can be difficult.

Try out the demo. You won't regret trying it and you'll likely want to continue the path of becoming the "Pirate King".
