Orcs Must Die! 2 review

First game Orcs Must die was introduction in world how to kill Orcs in Tower Defense style but from the third person view! You were a spending lot of time just placing all variety of traps just to stop upcoming horde of Orcs, Problem in the firs game was lack of multiplayer options. This deficiency is compensated in the new game Orcs Must Die! 2 Heaps of traps that were prepared for maximum killing Orks and the brand new cooperative mode in which it appears and the character pretty sorceress added new weight and quality of the game below. The plot of the second part continues right where the original ended.

Game is very good combination between Tower Defense and Action genre and it's worth spending a money on it!

Like its predecessor, Orcs Must Die! 2 is a straightforward game, but it's also an extremely enjoyable one - doubly so if you have a friend to play alongside. Whether it's a return trip or your first time wading into the horde, this is one tower defense game worth checking out.

Slay thousands of orcs in this action - tower defense mashup game.

Good: + killing orcs

+ dozens of options to kill orcs

+ co-op to kill orcs

+ witty banter of the characters

Bad: - Levels are tough in singleplayer

- I want more levels to kill orcs

Great game if you are playing alone and it becomes an excellent game if you have a friend to join you, it really becomes a great co-op experience when you are strategizing what traps to bring and where to place them. Also plenty of traps and different weapons to unlock, 2 playable characters and some bonus levels if you already own the first title.

While I love the game, it does have almost a mandatory co-op. Overall compared to the first it has better graphics, a second character to add some replay value, co-op, and some great voice work. It just gets hard fast, so be prepared. If you have someone to play regularly with I would give it 5 stars, but I have to rate it for how I generally play, single.

At the cost though definitely worth it.

I loved original Orcs Must Die! and this title only upgraded previous formula. It's still tower defense game, with same graphics but with lot more weapons, coop, new character - sorceress. You can play coop as two warmages but there are also diversities between those characters in skills and some traps so it adds more depth. Levels are numerous and great, if you own original Orcs Must Die! you will also have available tons of levels from that game so overall countless hours of fun.

Buy it and play with friend or girlfriend! One of the best coop games these days.

This game is mixed bag. I greatly loved the first one, but this one is disappointment.

Good: Co-op is great addition which greatly missed original. Graphics is updated. The new second character (Sorceress) is very good, and I even like her more. There are more enemies. Endless mode is good addition. The best part is you can replay every level again and again to gain new skulls which allows you to buy traps, skills, and etc before they unlock. That was the major problem with the original for me.

Bad: The most levels are designed for co-op. If you play alone like me, expect huge frustrations on several levels (especially in Act II). Levels' design is mostly worse than in original, I think there are less levels than in original and then there are some missing traps from original like my favorite arrow wall.

Verdict: This should be an expansion, not the full game. Co-op is great addition, but the rest is mostly let down.

Love it. Really great coop mode changes the game and makes it really enjoyable with a friend. Those Orcs must die!

Pick up and play with friends!

Really fun game to play with friends - coop was a great addition! Even if you played OMD1 you should still give this a shot because some of the new powers are neat, and the story is pretty cute too.

My friend and I have gotten a solid ~19 hours of co-op gameplay over the past week in this game, which doesn't even include the time I spent with it solo. That was just on the base game alone, and I haven't even gotten started on the DLC missions (which are less numerous but more challenging than the base maps) and "endless" maps.

I've easily gotten my money's worth with this game and I've not had my fill of it quite yet. That said, this game is balanced around co-op play, so I suggest you play with a friend to get the full experience.

If you enjoyed the first one i am sure you will love this one, also here's on gamersgate it comes with a nice price which will be repaid by having tons of hours of fun smashing and killing hordes of orcs while trying to protect your reign, in this game also you can co-op, which on the first game wasn't possible, trust me you won't regret it, now go and kill some orcs !

There seems to be some debate about how much of a true sequel this game is. Well I've set up my tent and stove in the "it's OMD 1.5" camp. I don't really view this as a bad thing, OMD was a great game with very solid design and mechanics, I can understand not wanting to deviate from that too much and I also understand that DLC doesn't sell anywhere near as well as a full sequel, so it seems pertinent to sell it as a fairly cheap sequel.

The addition of co-op is very welcome, it was the only obvious omission from the original and is a lot of fun. The only real issue with it is that it tends to make things quite a bit easier, but some levels are devilishly tough so having the option to play them in co-op and get 5 skulls is something I quite like. The characters have some unique abilities and traps that provide enough mileage to make two playthroughs of the campaign quite different. Forcing the player to change tactics is also a concept that's further explored in the weekly challenges, each week a new challenge is available (unfortunately the previous one is removed) where the choice of weapons and traps is pre-determined.

If you loved the original and yearn for more then this is the game for you. My only criticism is that the level design isn't quite as refined as the original, I believe this is largely because the levels have been designed to work in both SP and co-op.

OMD2 is a worthwhile purchase but I think the incremental update will have used up a lot of the good will, if an OMD3 is planned then it'll have to do something rather special to convince the fans.

This is possibly one of the most fun multilayer games iv had the pleasure of playing, for all you gamers who think a sequel isn't going to be as good as the original I tell you to play this game, they expanded on the core mechanics of the first game to make them more engaging and customisable but not only that you also get to play with a friend. truly a great buy

The game is challanging enough to keep you going for many hours, but the levels are rather short so you can easly stop ... but if only that would be so easy ... its just one of this: let me try this level again.. or it can't be that hard ... and there goes your 30 min brak and it became a full 2h session.

Tumbs up, I liked the first part and the second builds on the strengths and gives you more stuff to do and experiment with.

I've heard a lot of people complain that Orcs Must Die! 2 is little more than an enhanced version of OMD!1.

Well, that's only true in the sense that any sequel in the same genre of the former game is an enhancement.

Quite simply, the skulls progression, traps development and weapons development have all be completely overhauled - this is no mere "more weapons, more traps" upgrade. The system of how you develop and specialise is completely new, and easily worth the addition of the "2" onto the end of the game's name.

And that's before we even get to the co-op!

As I gave the original 5-stars, OMD!2, with its better character development and amazing co-op, should be an easy 6! Gamersgate... little help, please?

Great game, highly recommended if you enjoyed Orcs Must Die 1. I do suggest playing the first game before getting into this one as you'll miss a bit of the story if you don't. This game, unlike the prequel, is highly concentrated on co-op. It's still fun in singleplayer, but it's so much more fun in co-op and the levels were designed with co-op as intended.

Orcs Must Die 2 is a mixture of tower defense and third person shooter, and it works really well at both. If you're a fan of both genres, I'd give it a try. The game has a nice variety of traps and weapons for you to use, although the assortment isn't completely balanced. I found myself ignoring some traps because they were simply too slow or less useful than the others. The game has decent replay value with the Nightmare difficulty mode along with Endless or Classic levels (which you can get if you own the first game).

The addition of the Sorceress character is a pretty cool bonus, and there are a couple of traps/weapons exclusive to each character. The inclusion of the skull refund feature is also a nice touch, as you'll want to buy different traps/weapons/trinkets depending on what level you're gonna play and this feature allows you to refund all of your skulls an infinite amount of times.

The game is a bit short, but for the price it's well worth buying and adding to your collection.

Orcs Must Die! 2 or as I like to call it Orcs Must Die! Again is basically a pure upgrade of the original adding more traps, levels, game play modes including co-op and a new campaign. When it comes to the two different war-mages they play more or less a like with most of the same traps and items except for the starting items. All in all this is a really fun game and I would recommend it for anyone who loved the original. For everyone else you could try the demo or the original as it gives a good idea about this game and if you would like it or not

Simply brilliant.

If you played Orcs Must Die! then you will know roughly what to expect - the same, only more of it. More weapons, more traps, more maps.

Traps and weapons can be upgraded with skulls, as before, but there are more upgrades to be had - such as the ability to place certain traps on the ceiling, or give fire effects - simply more manic destruction.

Because of the ability to spend more skulls, there must be a way to acquire more skulls. This is done both via bonus skulls - eg skulls awarded for completing a level without dying, or reaching a certain number of career kills with your character - and through the inclusion additional game modes - 'classic' levels from the original, 'endless' levels and a weekly challenge. It would appear that you could possibly 'break' the game by replaying the same couple of endless levels til you get enough skulls to get every weapon and trap upgraded before starting the main campaign; this is your choice, though.

Also there are two characters - the original guy, and a sort of witch type - this will give additional replay value.

All in all, this game is brilliant.

More of the same is not always a bad thing!

I bought this game after having thoroughly enjoyed the first one. I wasn't too worried about the multiplayer, more the opportunity to have more maps. For the price of this game I was not disappointed.

Whilst it is a tad short it is still the fun game I grew to love. It's a tad more challenging on top of that and also has a great deal more options on gamemodes. The multiplayer isn't tacked on either and my only reservations are actually about how some levels seem designed for multiplayer. Regardless of that the game is just as difficult in both modes and if you enjoy either co-op hero defence games or singleplayer you will not be disappointed.

As much fun as the original with a greater range of weapons, traps and trinkets. slightly shorter campaign but makes up for it with different game modes. addition of Co-Op worried me that the SP would suffer but this is not the case.

An excellent sequel to what in my opinion was the best standalone tower defence game in the history of the genre. The biggest criticism one could have was the lack of multiplayer, which they solved with an excellent coop experience. The new Sorceress compliments the War-Mage perfectly, the game offers the same satisfying action as the original while expanding on just about everything. If there's one negative it's the lack of maps, but no doubt there will be fairly priced DLC in the future, as it was for the original. In the interim there is always Endless Mode.

An absolute must-play for any fans of the tower defense genre

5 star game if you have someone to play with, but the game sort of assumes you are playing with someone resulting in difficulties when playing solo. The game doesn't offer any type of tutorial, but luckily it's very easy get in even if you've never played the first game.

Worthwile purchase for its price.

This game has already taken up a lot of my free time. It's just as fun as the original, but now with (limited) multi player.

We get more maps, a second playable character, more traps and new baddies to kill.

Owning the first game unlocks those maps for coop via classic mode.

It however loses a few points on some other fronts: It has no local coop/lan support, and that is a shame. It's the type of game thats more fun to play with another person in the same room.

The smaller font in the spelbook makes playing from the sofa a bit more troublesome as well.

Still a very fun game, but it could have had better polish/featureset.

A truly Amazing Sequel and game, OMD2 is a great addition to series and it gives you everything you ever had or wanted from the first game, than covers that in pure awesome sauce.

PLUS! Multiplayer now go orc jam making with your friends and bring death to every critter that crawls out of a portal together.

If you haven't bought this game yet then i have just a tiny bit of advice BUY IT NOOOOWWWW!!!!

Amazing follow up to an amazing game.

By Rzepak posted 2nd August 2012

This is the best example of what a sequel should be. It takes what was wrong with the first game and fixes it, while at the same time adding more enemies, more weapons, more traps, more levels, new modes, a new character and coop. The game looks as good as the previous one, it runs perfeclty. The story is lackluster but no one bought OMD for the story, and no one will buy this one for story. The characters are different enough that they encourage multiple playthroughs. The coop works well, but its a bit underdeveloped. To play with someone that person has to be on your friends list, from which you can invite the said person into the game. It works, but I still hope for a proper matchmaking system. This is a must have, especially when looking at the price content ration, which in this game is amazing. Creating new twisted trap combos to slaughter orcs never gets old.

Orcs Must Die! 2 review

By bunnies posted 1st August 2012

Everything that Orcs Must Die! did, this game does and does it better. There's more traps, more variety in the levels and generally more of everything the first game had. Co-op is 2 player only and there is no matchmaking so it's best to find a friend and get a 2-pack for maximum enjoyment. The first handful of levels are easy enough to handle solo but as you get further ahead in the game, the rifts get further and further apart and managing two streams of orcs becomes much more difficult.

Including the maps from the first game in this if you own Orcs Must Die! is a decent bonus, as well. If you don't own Orcs Must Die! 1 and like playing this, particularly co-op, watch for a sale and get it to add the maps to this. It'll easily double your co-op fun. More maps is always more fun.

All in all, this is a decent sequel, particularly worth it if you liked the first game and have a friend to play it with. I'm now wondering if Orcs Must Die! 3 is going to add 3-player co-op.

The game is about building traps and other kind of defenses to prevent bad orcs from getting from point A to point B. Simple concept, but this game utilizes it with perfections. The orcs are squished, sprayed with acid and burning oil, stabbed, set on fire and launched into air or lava pits and it is all FUN.

The games improves in every aspect compared to OMD!, biggest one is addition of 2 player co-op over internet. Play it with your friend/girlfriend/boyfriend and have lots of fun.

Loved the first game and OMD2 gives you even more of the killing orcs goodness. More traps, more enemies, revamped upgrade paths and a co-op mode. Plus you get 10 of the original levels if you have the first game in STEAM. Absolutely fantastic. Code registers in STEAM and game installs from there.

More of the same with a co-op twist.

By Bryssa posted 30th July 2012

OMD2 will feel very familiar to veterans of the original, but that's not a bad thing at all. The first was frantic fun with a surprisingly high skill cap - there was a huge difference between those that simply finished the game and those that mastered their kill boxes to perfect their high scores.

OMD2 expands on what made the original so good while refining it's weaker aspects. The new skill system is far better than the somewhat shoved in equivalent to OMD's late game enhancements, and the addition of co-op makes the possibilities for crazy kill boxes and combos even more so. It's also just plain FUN.
