Orcs Must Die! review

If you're looking for some fun mindless action, look no further. Orcs Must Die offers you some nice action against some funny looking orcs. The game itself is a typical tower defense game, meaning that you should avoid the orcs getting to your base. So you'll need to use different traps and your crossbow and your swords to kill all off them. If you want to kill some orcs, just buy Orcs Must Die!

Orcs Must Die! is mindless fun, and I've found very little wrong with the game. It has a great soundtrack that doesn't get boring despite its repetitiveness, and graphics that suit the game's arcade style.

Controls: Easy to control, easy to pick up and play. I found that, for me and others who are newer to PC gaming, this game is very good at drawing you in and making you feel comfortable with the control settings.

Gameplay: Simple tower defense gameplay that lets you control your character on the actual battlefield. You control a Warmage that is protecting rifts from invading Orcs--it's as simple as that. You place traps and earn points to buy more traps and upgrades for your character. Even after playing through the same set of levels, I found myself with a different experience each time, and, with the different difficulty settings, I found the replay value to be great.

Short review, but I find myself with not that much to say about the game. It's fun, it's user-friendly, it has great music, and it's addictive. For the price, I say that you can't get much better--unless you buy Orcs Must Die! 2!

Orcs Must Die! is a one of those "active" tower defense games. If you like the idea of tower defense, but get bored of simply watching waves of enemies get slaughtered by your contraptions, this might be the game for you. It puts a large focus on not only clever trap design, but also third-person action, which makes for a very enjoyable and interactive experience.

A good mix between a tower-defense game and a FPS shooter.

You are a battlemage, and you defend a fortress against "bad" orcs. You defend it with your crossbow, some other weapons, and traps that you can put all around. In each fortress there's a rift, which has a limited amount of points, if you loose too mcuh of them, you will loose. When you killed all the waves of orcs you can move on to the next fortress.

The game has great replayability, because it's hard to achieve a "perfect score", that gives you 5 skulls, you will normally have to play a level several times in order to find the best combination of weapons and traps to use. And with the skulls you can improve the weapons and traps you already posess.

A great and valuable game, which refresh the tower defense genre with third person mechanics and lots of humour.

The story may not be original of fascinating, but the good gameplay, nice graphics and lots of upgradable weapons make the game lasts a lot.

A good blend of tower defence, RPG, action and shooting gameplay elements. You can just play a level or two and kill some orcs to release stress, or you can have a more serious play and plan every trap you place. It is certainly one of the most interesting tower defence game out there. However, GOTY edition is recommended if you are new comer.

The title says it all: "Orcs must die", by any means possible. The game is one of the most refreshing games I've played in a long time.

A fine combination of tower defense and 3rd person shooter, Orcs Must Die pits you against thousand of Orcs that are trying to get into your portal to the human world.

The game gives you numerous traps and 2 guardians (archer and paladin) to stop the advancing Orcs. With new traps given after each level, you always feel a sense of anticipation to try out your new toys and killing Orcs never gets boring (at least for 24 hours of playing the game :D)

I already played this game last year and I couldn't stop. Orcs must die while from the outside looking like mindless onslaught of cartoon orcs, inside it's quite complex game with many way how to win. While you progress through all levels you get more and more traps and game is more and more complex. First you start with some arrow walls, slowing traps and some floor spikes and then you get elfs, paladins, new weapons...lot of stuff. You will discover that some traps cooperate with other traps really great. Of course not all traps are definitely useful and you will use them only in certain areas of a level but another advantage of whole game is that you can dynamically react on escaped enemy because you are there yourself.

The reason why I buy this Orcs Must Die 1, is that I want to open access to classic levels for my girlfriend in Orcs Must Die 2. Phew, 2.5 Euros is a steal. Get it now.

A unique yet addicting and fun tower defence game that i've spent hours on it. It discards the generic tower defence game and adds new concepts to make the game feel fresh and entertaining. Overal it is well worth the cash!

This is a good tower defence game with interesting concept. Instead of just putting up towers and waiting for the wawe to end you have to also kill enemyes manually by killing them yourself with various weapons and using the enviroment (eg. using wind glowe or "jump pads" to push enemies into acid pit). Only problem for me is that I can't play it for a long time in one session, becouse I get a bit bored after a while. Also, sometimes I get a feeling that I do most of the work myself instead my traps, which have too long cooldown.

One of the most adictive Tower Defense I ever played (50+ playtime hours back me up), easy to understand, fun and even the only replay value is to get in the leaderboards, worth the buy, also now have a price reduction ($9.99).

It's a must-have.

Excellent game

Great game that combines FPS aspects along with Strategy and even maybe a touch of tower defense style gameplay. Many different ways to clear the same levels(you can largely melee or use magic and many different ways to use all the different traps). I would consider this a must have game and have enjoyed for many hours.

I've never really been a fan of tower defense, but this one's a different story. You still have to place traps, but you can also run around casting spells. On sale this game is a great bargain. It's a very fun game overall.

One of the funnest games I've played in a while. It's a game you can get into for a short while if you don't have much time to sit around gaming for hours. A nice twist on TD games, this one lets you run around with your weapons and defenses, placing them as the orcs keep coming. I love this game for SP. I love Dungeon Defenders for MP. But Orcs must Die 2 is coming out soon, and it will have MP, so I am really looking forward to that.

A very good twist to your generic tower defense game. Instead of simply placing towers/traps like every other TD out there, our hero is thrust into the fray as well, juggling between placing traps/towers and firing at the enemy.

By Koozer posted 2nd August 2012

An excellent action-oriented tower defence-alike, with a whiff of Dungeon Master. Traps and abilities are nice and varied, and very satisfying to use on a range of different castle layouts. The only negative is one common in tower defence - difficulty spikes on certain levels, followed by an easy ride before the next spike.

I bought Orcs Must Die! as I'd heard it was a lot like Dungeon Defenders, a combination of tower defense and third person action. And while it was similar in premise, it wasn't nearly as fun. Overly frustrating, more like.

Orcs Must Die! is what more towerdefenses should do: Have the player join the fray instead of just relying solely on traps

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty much done with tower defence.

This game tries to make TD games feel fresh again by putting you out there on the battlefield, splatting creeps yourself when they get past your lovingly-placed traps. It has a nice look and feel - there is some excellent production design on the Orcs and your character - which also makes this game feel fresh. I think that the close-up viewpoint which breaks away from the traditional top-down camera for TDs also helps to distinguish it.

Don't dismiss this one just because its 'another tower defence game'.

A very unique third-person mix of tower defense and first person shooter, OMD is beyond entertaining from start to finish. The story is a very basic backdrop to the action of the game, but don't let that put you down- although it isn't very important it is still interesting. There are more than enough traps to keep things fresh and interesting and the skull system makes it incredibly re-playable. Overall, it is well worth the money.

Great game, however the lack of multiplayer lowers its playtime value. With that said it is a really good singleplayer game, great jokes and the cutscenes are awesome

More fun than I'd initially expected

By lowyhong posted 30th December 2011

Be warned: this game is horribly addictive. Your goal is simple. Let the horde of orcs in, and just kill them all. There aren't many varieties in enemies, but the orcs come in several skins, so you won't really feel like you're just fighting clone after clone. The humour is great too. Orcs will constantly mumble "I want to go home", or "I want to be the good guy" (or something along those lines). It's subtly implemented without feeling like it's trying too hard.

Equipment comes in two forms: weapons and traps. Weapons have a primary and secondary attack, and using them feels a lot like playing a typical first/third person action game. Traps are set on the floors, walls or ceilings to deal out plenty of punishment to the orcs. There are so many ways to kill the orcs, and that's really the highlight of the game. You can set up barricades to funnel them through a single lane, then knock all of them into the acid pool; or, you can set up traps everywhere that slice, dice, flatten and burn them. The many permutations of killing orcs is what makes this game a great stress reliever.

Some of the downsides include the lack of multiplayer and unbalanced equipment, but that's no biggie. The former would have been a cool addition to the game, but there's nothing wrong with playing the game solo. As for unbalanced equipment, some of the traps and weapons are clearly more powerful than others, while some might as well be taken out of the game for being incapable at accomplishing anything worthwhile for what it costs to use them. Still, the game offers just about enough choices to please people who just have the urge to decimate something, or really hate orcs. All around one of the most mindlessly fun games I've played this year.

A very enjoyable tower-defence game where you control your character in the third-person perspective. You get to set up traps before starting a level. After starting the first wave you can get involved personally with a crossbow and a sword. New traps may be placed at any time and also sold to regain money.

There are many varieties of enemies, including the standard orcs, smaller faster enemies and bigger slower enemies. Later on there are also flying enemies and some enemies who are focused on killing your character. The standard enemies die pleasingly fast to most traps, but the traps need to reset. This makes the traps feel more lethal, they are not just whittling down health bars over time.

The games starts a little slow but picks up a lot as new traps and spells are unlocked as the levels are completed. It gets even more tactical when the Weavers are unlocked, which allow bonuses for a level to be bought (such as traps resetting faster or your crossbow doing more damage), because now money can be spent on more traps or such bonuses.

It suffers from a slow start and later levels can be very difficult but overall I found it a lot of fun.

Two words: Blade walls.

Oh, you need more? Well, people keep telling me that this is a tower defense game, but I don't like tower defense games, so I don't know what they're talking about.

Orcs run at you to get to something behind you. You lay down traps and shoot at them. It's BRILLIANT. So incredibly satisfying! After just a few levels I went and bought both DLC packs, too! It's scary that after completing Dark Souls and playing Space Marine, Witcher 2, Civ V and many other fantastic games, this one is definitely in my top 5 for 2011!

Orcs is a fun time waster game. It is a challenging game until you figure out some tricks to managing the orcs. At that point it becomes very easy, so I don't think the replay factor is very high. But for the sale price it was a great way to waste a little time.

Orcs Must Die is one beautifully crafted game. Not many games can combine a reasonable level of depth with the kind of gameplay you can just immediately pick up and play, but OMD succeeds where a lot of big budget titles fail. It's immediately enjoyable with a gentle learning curve. Wiping out hoards of orcs with your traps and weapons is great fun, without being overwhelming.

Like I said - beautifully crafted. I love it!

Awesome twist on the Tower Defense genre, with interactive, amusing gameplay, there's a lot of fun to be had with this title.

The only downside is the steam DRM requirement for the DLC, but other than that is one of the best Tower Defense games to grace the PC in a long time.

Orcs Must Die! review

Taking the simple concept of a Tower Defense, the developeres have managed to create a fresh, original, adorable and very fun game. Orcs Must Die! is one of the best games for its price range, the only flaw being the absence of COOP (which would have been perfect for the this game).

Orcs Must Die! is an surprisingly fun and satisfying tower defense/action hybrid based around slaughtering hoards of Orcs in some very creative ways. Open pools of acid? Launch them in with a Spring Trap. Low hanging ceiling? Smash them to bits with a Pounder. Balconies on either side of a great hall? Place Archers to watch your back as you head straight into the fray. The possibilities may not be endless, but there sure are an awful LOT of them to work with.

This is like a third person towerdefense game. so if you like towerdense im sure you like this game. you basicly put down traps and kill orcs with your spells and weapons.

Sweet, fast-paced little gem.

This is a sweet little dungeon defense game. It's single player, but it makes a great casual time waster because you can get in play a level in just a few minutes. The traps and weapons are fun, and who doesn't like slaughtering hordes of orcs anyway?

Some of the dialogue is hilarious as well :)
