Neverwinter Nights™ 2

Rating: 4.2 (246 votes cast)

Neverwinter Nights™ 2 is the sequel to one of the best-selling and genre-defining role-playing games ever, set in the popular Dungeons & Dragons® Forgotten Realms™ universe created by Wizards of the Coast.

Bards sing tales of heroes from ages past, but never have the Forgotten Realms so desperately needed a champion. Years have passed since the war between Luskan and Neverwinter, almost enough time for the wounds of war to heal. But the brief peace the Realms have known may be at an end. Tension growing between the mighty city-states means the Sword Coast again teeters on the edge of open war. Unnoticed, a greater danger stalks the City of Skilled Hands. Unbeknownst to the denizens of the North, deep in the Mere of Dead Men, dark forces from across the Realms have been rallied under the banner of a legendary evil. If left unchallenged, all of the North is doomed to fall under its power.

Even in this darkest hour, hope remains. A mysterious relic is borne to Neverwinter in the hands of a lone hero so that its secrets may be unlocked - secrets that carry the fate of all the North. So begins an epic tale of shattered alliances, noble acts and dark deeds to be told across the Realms for generations to come.

It has better graphic, but on the other aspects, it falls short comparing to its predecessor. Don't get me wrong though, it is still a decent game on its own. It still offer good tactical combat, decent story and a lot of adventures, but NWN1 was just too perfect for it to reach. It is still a must have if you are a D&D fan, and/or Black Isles fan.

Brilliant yet bug-ridden RPG with a complex moral-system and high replay value. Causes numerous problems during the installation process on Vista and Windows 7.

I really like this game and have found myself totally engrossed and immersed in the world it creates. My one complaint is a known bug that cause you to have to reissue orders to your party to follow or attack at critical times. I strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys RPGs in general and D&D games in particular.

The biggest change since the original is the inclusion of fully controllable party members. You'll meet quite a few during the single player campaign, all with their own inventories, equippable slots, and the ability to customize their skill allocations upon level up. This makes playing Neverwinter Nights 2 seem more like the D&D CRPGs of the past. Since I've seen this feature before, it really isn't a step forward, rather something that should have been included in the original Neverwinter Nights. Still, bringing this back makes the sequel a more enjoyable game to play.

Great game set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe.

I prefer this game to the first Neverwinter Nights game, due to the story and the use of party characters. Unlike the first NN game Neverwinter Nights 2 allows the player to have up to three other characters in the party, each with their own personality. The story is also far more interesting than the first game in the series.

The game has some camera issues, but after a couple hours its something you get used to. Also, the game can be a little buggy, but these issues shouldn't keep anyone from enjoying a great RPG from the wonderful Obsidian!

I found it to a fun game. The major problems with it, that you will fight with the camera and the controls are bit off. Also

there is a long wait to download the patches. So I suggest that you should download the demo first and if you can get pass the wonky controls and annoying camera. Then this game is worth it.

Great game, but the pacing is terrible. The first couple of chapters drag on and on and on, which is frankly a problem. The characters are pretty amusing, which can alleviate the tedium of the first couple of chapters. It is a shame that the best part of the game, where it kind of becomes a castle manager game (which is a VERY welcome departure from the overlong dungeons of the first segments), but that doesn't last as long as it could, unfortunately. As another review says, the camera angles are mostly terrible.

Even with all those details, it is still a worthy acquisition, and even if it was not by itself such a title, it would be because Mask of the Betrayer requires the base game to run.

Neverwinter Nights 2 is a fairly long game. It took me around 50 hours to beat it. The game is very linear, there are hardly any sidequests and most of the areas have only one path you can follow. The story starts off slowly and at some point I got bored and uninstalled the game. Luckily I Gave NWN 2 a second chance, because the game gets much more interesting later on.

The characters you travel with are interesting bunch of people (although I found half of them annoying). The voice acting in the game varies from terrible to enjoyable.

Neverwinter Nights 2 has some problems: AI can be a bit dodgy at times and the graphics are bad, not old just plain bad. The soundtrack is boring at best and the game has probably the worst camera in the history of gaming. Still, I enjoyed this game and I would recommend Neverwinter Nights 2 if you are into RPGs.

Waste of money. Buy Oblivion Elder Scrolls. There is no comparison. I couldn't even play 10mins of NW2 without getting pissed off at the stupid camera and control options.

Neverwinter Nights 2, a wonderful game for anyone even mildly interested in a Dungeons and Dragons style RPG. As usual for a DnD game you find yourself tasked with saving the world, but obsidian really went out of there way to make this one special. My personal favorite aspect of this game is a little stint about halfway through where you are given some strategic micromanagement options of a homebase. The usual DnD v3.5 level cap of 20 is in effect, though you have to work to reach it in a single playthrough, and of course there is a full gamut of prestige classes to customize your character as you prefer. Graphics are beautiful, sound is amazing. My only true gripe with the game is the inability to fully make your own 4-6 character party, but i understand why this idea was nixed in favor of unique NPCs who can join you, complete with their own sidequests. Overall a wonderful game for any with a love of non-japanese RPGs.
