GAME SUMMARY

Napoleon: Total War™ Imperial Edition

Rating: 4.5 (149 votes cast)

The Napoleonic era was a time of political unrest and epic battles played out on an unprecedented scale. It revolutionized the organization and size of European armies through the use of levée en masse (mass conscription). But the strength of an army finds its roots within every soldier’s individual skills.

Napoleon: Total War Imperial Edition includes the exclusive “Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars” pack to be downloaded into the game.

The “Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars” pack gathers the most superb infantry and cavalrymen who fought during the great Napoleonic battles: 10 exclusive units, which will all make a difference during key engagements, whether using formidable weapons or exceptional tactical skills.

These exclusive elite units become available on the campaign map once you have made a specific technological advancement or own the relevant territory.

The following elite units are included as part of the Napoleon: Total War Imperial Edition on Steam. Once the game is installed and verified by Steam, players will unlock these elite units which will then appear in the single and multiplayer games.

“Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars” Pack

  • 7th Lancers – France: These cavalrymen are armed with lances that make them particularly deadly when charging. The lance allows the user to put all his weight, and that of his charging horse, behind one very sharp point.
  • Brandenburg Uhlans – Prussia: They are some of the most experienced cavalrymen in Europe and can persuade their steeds into breathtaking acts of speed.
  • 1st Hussars – Austria: The 1st Hussars are, without exception, superb horsemen, and all have a certain independence of spirit that makes them ideal for chasing down widely scattered men.
  • 15th Hussars – Great Britain: The 15th Hussars are made up of veteran cavalrymen, deadly in close combat and at the charge. Their speed makes them ideal for chasing down skirmishers and for dealing with artillery units.
  • 1st East Prussian Grenadier Battalion – Prussia: Only the largest, bravest men can become grenadiers; this size and strength makes them an impressive sight in a charge, and gives them an edge in melee.
  • 6th Regiment d’Infanterie Légère – France: Historically, the 6th Regiment saw action in over forty battles during the Napoleonic Wars and were awarded seven battle honours for their achievements.
  • 17th Jäger Regiment – Russia: Able to fight in loose skirmish formation or fire a massed volley when organised in line, the Jägers are an adaptable response to enemy tactics.
  • 1st Regiment Emperor's Own – Austria: The 1st Regiment “Emperor’s Own” is made up of battle-hardened Czech troops, as deadly with their bayonets as they are excellent marksmen.
  • 18th Regiment d’Infanterie de Ligne “The Brave” – France: The 18th Regiment are revered by their fellow countrymen, who know them as “The Brave”. They are experienced soldiers and that makes them valuable on the battlefield.
  • Moscow Musketeers – Russia: Formed into a disciplined line, they can unleash a massed volley into an enemy then, while the enemy is reeling, follow it with a decisive bayonet charge.

Napoleon: Total War™ Imperial Edition review

By RapIoaPer posted 16th April

Napoleon is definitely a step forward form Empire. The battle AI has been significantly improved and the map of europe is far better then the Empire's one (no "swiss-hole" and non huge mono province France and England), still, for no historical reason at all, the map contains only europe (not even northern africa...) and is so small that the campaign is almost a "big scenario". Concluding, with a better map (wich is basilar in these type of games) Napoleon would have solved almost all the mistakes done in empire.

Great game with great improvements from Empire. It may not be Medieval 2 to Empire, but it does it's job at glorying the life of Napoleon, and taking away countless hours. Any Total War veterans (like me), you wont be astonished, but you will enjoy it. Anyone new to the series, buy this game immediately.

Napoleon Total War is definitely what Empire should have been. The combat and campaign are sound as always and very engaging. This is a game that will melt hours away very quickly, but that's a good thing.

My only complaints are that diplomacy is, for the most part, useless and I wish Creative Assembly would expand the trade system more. But barring those two the game is a solid addition to the Total War franchise.

Napoleon Total War is a very compelling Game. Not only are its Mechanics and Dynamics sound, but it presents You with an Immersive Experience, despite its RTS Nature. If You have an interest in Strategic, Small to Large Scale RTS Game, or just want to see a depiction of that period of History as best as can be offered, this Game provides just fine.

I had a blast with the Game. And I still am quite regularly.

The replayability has tided it over, and over again.

The only reason I can think that one may not like the Game, is if the Genre wasnt for them, or the time period. The Game is hard, but it wont crush You.

Thats all I can say, really.

This product is amazing. The ability to play online during the campaign is revolutionary towards the Total War series, and the gameplay is innovative enough for anyone to enjoy. 8/10.

If you are new to the Total war franchise(like me), this is going to be a lot of fun. The game is very well built and captures very well the Napoleonic era. The battles are impressive and the graphics are stunning. The multiplayer is very impressive, although difficult due to the high level skill of people online. After receiving a few beat down's, you start to get better.

Modding is also prevalent in the napoleon total war community, so if the game gets old, you can always try some of the mods. A+ game.

More an expansion from Empire, perhaps, then a new game, but it is better in every aspect. The best Total war game so far, since I´m not a fan of the Shogun line. I´m looking forward to a Empire 2 that hopefully will contain Napoleon 2.

This game is difficult! You need to think before you act, and Age Of Empires is FPS compared! Wonderful graphics, and sound quality isn't bad at all :D

Napoleon is a great game for fans of Total War and other similar RTS'. It improves on every aspect of Empire:Total War; graphics, sound and gameplay. The story driven campaign works well, and multiplayer is more robust. Simply put.... Enjoyed.

I have Shogun, Middle Ages and Rome in this series. Been away for a while so I thought I would see what is new. I must say it is very good. Zoom all the way to the soldiers on the field, etc. The range of weopons is hard to get use to for me, but I have only started the Italian campaign.

Don't have to do the whole campaign, can pick shoter ones.

Also, the turns are two weeks as oppose to month or ore on the other titles.

But it is the same formula, turn based strategy, then real time battles. There are some new features like attrition and naval units.

Overall, I am impress and think it is a good addition to your library, if you are into this series.

Napoleon: Total War™ Imperial Edition review

Napoleon is a stand alone expansion for Empire: Total War.

Empire was released in a very unfinished state with some of the worst AI yet seen from Creative Assembly (a group infamous for less than stellar AI). It was so bad that AI opponents were unable to conduct amphibious landings. This meant that the game was pretty much a cakewalk if you were playing as Great Britain.

As bad as the campaign map AI was, the tactical battle AI was worse. Computer controlled adversaries would often just mill about, face off in odd directions and let you blast them apart piecemeal. Even when they would commit to battle, you could easily distract them by parading your general in front of them like bait. Like a horde of zombies, they'd abandon all thought and chase blindly after the general, making it all too easy to drag them through zones of fire until they were annihilated.

Well, as usual, CA promised that they'd focussed on consumer complaints and addressed the AI for Napoleon Total War. They being less than honest.

Instead of focussing on the AI, what they've done is changed the campaign map from one which gave the player freedom to choose their strategy and instead adopted a linear, script based system that forces you to follow a much more restrictive path to victory.

While this does alleviate some of the stupidity of the game's AI, it also robs the player of choice.

CA have also focussed their attention away from the single player portion of the game and set it on the multiplayer aspects.

This may be a hit with other gamers, but not for me. I'm much more interested in having a well polished single player experience than I am engaging in random skirmishes online.

Why CA refuses to work on the AI in the TW series is beyond me, but NTW is yet another in a string of releases that have amazing potential but are brought down by braindead AI.

Good game! An improvement on the Empire formula... the only thing in which Empire bests Nappie is in the number of playable factions: Napoleon has just the Coalition and French factions, whereas Empire lets you play as any major nation of the 18th century.

Still, this is a worthwile installment of the Total War franchise, and a must have for fans.
