Neuro Hunter

Rating: 3.1 (35 votes cast)

Computer expert Hunter is hired by the Johnston Biotek corporation, just called "Corporation" in the game. Hunter is to repair the network of a mining complex but fails and ends up in an underground cave world after an explosion. A man called Toadstool finds him and tells F where they are: In an underground world where a computer freak called Hacker has seized power. Left alone by the Corporation, Hunter has to find a way back to the surface all by himself. On his quest he meets Kathryn, a mysterious woman, who sometimes helps the player. Hunter faces many dangers and problems; for instance, when he is confronted by sinister figures in an underground prison colony. Of course we cannot give away whether he finds the suspected lift to the surface there.

Neuro Hunter review

Played the first two hours of this game in case it improved. Suffice to say, it did not. There is a kind of obsessive pleasure to be had in collecting all the random items scattered about, but the brain-dead, game-length padding container puzzles, the clumsy combat, and the weakness of the story make it very difficult to recommend this game to just about anyone. Perhaps the game becomes much better once you get past the beginning (in the time I played I never had a chance to put my hacking skills to any use, for example) but I honestly find it unlikely.

Neuro Hunter is difficult to review. It's a large semi-open-world game with RPG stats and an extensive crafting system. The plot and writing are dull but competent. (Side note: the game apparently bugged out and trapped me in an unwinnable position in the LAST ROOM OF THE GAME so I had to look up the ending on YouTube.)

You're this dude and you run around and level up your biomechanical stats and shoot mutants. It's more fun than it sounds.

This game is basically a wonky Eastern European Deus Ex-analogue that was pretty fun while it lasted. Until it trapped me. Worth $5 but not much more.

Really bad game. Read thousand of reviews calling it "crap" and only one that says "it's good and remains you System Shock 2 and Deus Ex". So i buyed it. I played several hours trying to find something good. There isn't. It's a game plenty of good intentions, and nothing else. Poor graphics, gameplay, fighting, rpg...i played some reeeeal bad games, and enjoy them because of this faults, but i can't do that with NH.

Oh Neuro Hunter! How can I not like you? You may not be particularly attractive, have a terribly good voice, smell all that great and your clumsiness makes it a terrifying predicament to bring you into those china shops you've always adored so. But when it comes down to it, you are different and interesting in your own way. Sure, you're not very intelligent, or articulate, or even.. Let's say.. Coherent most of the time, but by god are you trying! Playing you is, in and of itself, not a terribly enjoyable task. You demand a lot from me, but give little in return. The stories you're trying to tell me are all too obviously apocryphal, and I wouldn't be too surprised if you had heard most of them while getting drunk with the Writers of Science Channel Association (Oh, if there only was such a thing..). But where it's difficult to take you seriously, it's all the more intriguing and amusing to sit back and let your inane ramblings of conspiracies, mega corporations, secret genetic experiments and cyber warfare wash over me as I smile and nod along. Are you a good game that I would recommend to everybody else to associate themselves with? Please don't be offended, but most certainly not. But! Are you a good friend that your acquaintances may not always appreciate at face value, but still cannot help but like having you around because you always seem to make them smile and forget the daily grind, if only for a brief moment? Absolutely.

Neuro Hunter, you may not be my best friend.. But don't you ever change.

xoxo

This game is great! I had low expectations I admit, but this game blew them away. It is not a polished high end game in any way, but all the standard RPG troupes are there. Plus the fact that the game is entirely voice acted is a plus. The voice acted is decent for most characters, a few duds here and there. I highly recommend it if you are done with Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and looking for something in the lull.

Better, than it might look. Yes, this one has "budget title" written all over it, complete with so-so graphics, but if you give it a chance, it actually begins to click. Dialogues are nicely written and wonderfully voiced, combat is intense (if difficult at times), level design is interesting and there are lots of nice touches here and there. This is a kind of a game that looks disgusting at first but then grows on you.
