Miner Wars 2081 is a 6DOF action-survival space-shooter simulation-game set in the year 2081, 10 years after the destruction of all planetary objects in the Solar System.

You operate an advanced mining ship in a fully destructible and open-world environment, which remains persistent as you complete missions or play online with others. Realism and survival are key aspects of gameplay. Inventory and the way you use resources such as fuel, ammunition, oxygen, ore, and weapons are important when surrounded by dozens of warring factions.

The gameplay is driven by an epic story and offers a choice of single player, co-op, and death-match multi-player.

The story will introduce you to many types of missions: rescue, exploration, revenge, base defense, theft, transportation, stealth, search and destroy, pure harvesting, racing, or just flying around and destroying everything you see.

NO SANDBOX!

By DoctorDanny posted 5th December 2012

Anyone expecting 'minecraft in space' is going to be very disappointed. There's no point in mining as yet since there's nothing to actually build. There's also been a lot of hype about the 'sandbox' this game will eventually be, but right now there's no sandbox at all.

Anyone who played Descent will feel right at home though.

It's a shooter on rails.

Miner Wars 2081 PRE-ALPHA review

By megaflux1 posted 3rd October 2012

This really feels like the spiritual successor to descent! I am having a blast (pun) playing it despite a few existing glitches (its in beta, so you cant hold that against it). It looks and move fantastically, the SFX are very fitting, the gameplay is challenging while not being impossible, and the gather/build process seems really well thought out.

So why only 4 stars you wonder right? Well if anything the game has a few too many controls, making it nigh impossible to fit everything on my n52. Some of them just feel useless too, like who would lay a mine infront of them? I feel like they could have made better use of the mouse wheel to fix this partially. Also the 3d support was not very good which to me is a definite point off (this kind of game deserves perfect 3d support). I dont particularly believe in giving 5's away like runner up prizes either (unlike some reviewers/magazines) there are only a couple each year (if that), but it is a rock solid 4.

Miner Wars 2081 PRE-ALPHA review

By KJTD posted 8th October 2011

Fantastic concept, the pre-alpha is extremely limited, but the ideas behind this game are fantastic. It has an insanely huge world and the developers have a lot of big plans for it, if they deliver it'll be a revolutionary game also combining it with the MMO like expansion that it'll get it might turn this into the most creative flight simulator.

Miner Wars 2081 PRE-ALPHA review

Despite being in the pre-alpha stage, this game is CRAZY in many respects. For one, it has a GREAT concept idea that has nearly endless possibilities, something that I have been looking for and only find in this (and Minecraft). I love the ideas going on here, and solely on that basis of judgement, I would urge everyone to buy this title now. I can't wait to see the final product of this project, but sadly I feel that we won't be seeing that for a long time, given that we all want to see perfection from this, which is already is, conceptually.

Still in alpha but my hopes for this alpha game are good.

By the time it is all in place we will have our self a new sim/spaceship/crafting game ?

Hopefully it will be something that is able too replace X-universe.

Gameplay.

Yes drilling and more drilling and harvesting.

Those are the current game play elements right now and testing.

But the game gets quite an update now and then untill its done and for this price I am glad I bought it.

Miner Wars 2081 review

By CounterAgent posted 10th November 2010

Even though this game is still in developement, it is already quite impressive and the potential is incredible. I am not a big MMO fan and so I wasn't really sure if this would be for me since it looks like it is a single-player with MMO integrated. That is only half-right (as of right now, since it is still in developement I guess that could change) The game actually has the options to play single-player, MMO, or sandbox mode with the options to build your own area. You are totally free to fly around space and destroy / mine any astroids you can find. Like I said, the potential is incredible. I would definately encourage you to try it if you like open-world space flight games or space MMO as this is sure to be a hit.
