Men of War Red Tide

Rating: 4.1 (770 votes cast)

Men of War: Red Tide is a sequel to the critically acclaimed RTS Men of War. Red Tide introduces a new story driven campaign based on the writings of Soviet scribe Alexander Zorich, it also includes dozens of new or upgraded units and weapons.

Men of War: Red Tide is a stunning mixture of RTS and a third-person action that introduces a new fighting force known for its brutal efficiency during the height of World War II. Played out across more than 20 missions, Men of War: Red Tide allows to take command of the feared “Black Coats,” the nickname given to Soviet Marines, an elite combat group specializing in engagements near the shoreline.

The player has direct control of new game units including the Black Coats, tanks, self-propelled guns, armored trains, landing craft, artillery and new enemy emplaced weapons to capture and use. New air support options include fighters, bombers, hydroplanes; cruisers, destroyers and gun boats which provide naval fire support.

Fighting during the Black Sea Campaigns of WWII, history buffs and WWII aficionados will recognize theaters of battle such as Odessa, Sevastopol, Theodosia, Eltingen, Nikolaev and Constanta.

Game features:

  • 23 missions - Soviet, German, Romanian and Italian forces
  • Six intense historical battles and landing operations during 1941-1945
  • Over 100 different military units: tanks, artillery, armored cars, planes (fighters, bombers, transporters), war ships and boats (cruisers, torpedo boats, gunboats)

Men of War Red Tide review

By ggnsane posted 16th March

Another good installment on the Men of War series, Men of War: Red Tide manages to execute a good gameplay, but without too much variation from the former games. The game is hard, focused on Russian spec ops units from that time, doing historical missions. I like the game, but there is no multiplayer, hence no co-op, and as said, the game is really hard. But then again Men of War games are a good take on strategy war games, so I'm giving it an OK rating.

Challenging, but with great strategy mechanics, good graphics, and a satisfying campaign. Like the rest of the MoW series, Red Tide has my recommendation.

I found this game hard, but the gameplay, graphics and story driven campaign made it well worth it. The AI is very good in this game, when I lost, I felt like I got beaten, not cheated. The watercraft, which can be controlled from third person like everything else, added quite a bit to the game. Strategy fans should not miss this one.

If you're a fan of the series, don't pass this one; especially if you get it at a good price. This is a good Men of War title, good strategy dynamics with slightly different story. Could have been richer by content, but by overall I am satisfied with the title.

A very good sequel to the Men of War series, although the campaign is a bit harder. This addition allows you to take control of not only soldiers and tanks, but watercreaft too. Two campaigns are based on direct fighting, while the rest are based on sabotage and tactical thinking. Follows the Russian campaign through the Black Sea and the eastern Balkans. Includes a real encyclopedia with an account of all of the events in the campaign and actual events documented by veterans.

A must have for any Men of War fan. Red Tide is probably the best campaign of the series. The missions seemed tight and I had the feeling that I was winning just by the skin of my teeth which shows great balance. I have put in 400+ hours with this series and I would spend another 400 just playing this expansion.

Men of War Red Tide - good single player expansion

By net_runner posted 10th June 2012

The game features quite long Single Player campaign - it lasts for a good few nights of gaming, plus few historiacal scenario missions. The graphics and gameplay are same as in original series. As for the game itself - it's quite realistic RTS experience with quite nice visuals and sound.

Great single player campaigns, doubly interesting because of their mostly ignored subject matter: if you want to launch an amphibious assault near Odessa against Romanian troops then look no further! All the great and challenging Men of War gameplay is here; a mixture of Company of Heroes, hard core wargame and Commandos. English VO is laughable, but who cares when the actual gameplay is so damn good?

Stand alone singleplayer expension to Men of War series. Most welcome!

Those of you who are looking for a singleplayer challange, look no more, this is pretty much it.

More than 20 missions, over 100 units covering Black Sea campaign with 6 historical battles this is for the Men of War fans out there craving for more action.

Graphics, user interface and controls familiar from earlier games, Red Tide doesn't try to fix what's not broken.

Once again this is a difficult game where your every order counts. One wrong move and your squad is out of action for good!

This is truly a great example of how an expansion should be made!

Challenging expansion to Men of War

By Fred_DM posted 11th April 2012

Red Tide is a stand-alone singleplayer-only mission pack for Men of War. It focuses on the heroic exploits of the Soviet Naval Infantry during WWII and thus complements the original Men of War with an interesting chapter of the Great Patriotic War that is generally not well-known in the West.

As Red Tide is generelly even less forgiving than Men of War, it is recommended for advanced players of the series.

What an awesome expansion to an already awesome base game. Red Tide makes you more in-depth with your squad and you really start to care for them. The Men of War games is simply the best WW2 RTS game out there right now. Fun, fun gameplay!

An excellent complement to the original Men of War. Engaging campaign, still-excellent realism, graphics and an intuitive interface.

There are few expansions good as much as Men of War Red Tide.

Although the game hasn't got a multiplayer option (and that's a pity because Men of War MP was really good), the new campaign included in what is actually a standalone game is even more intriguing than those brought by the original game.

This time you'll play mainly with units of the Soviet marine corp. There are many new weapons and vehicles and you will take control of ships too.

If you enjoyed the single player aspect (sans coop) of Men of War then you'll adore Red Tide.

New setting, new maps, new challenges and new models. pretty much everything you'd want in an expansion pack.

The voice acting, although much, much better than the original is still bad. I found it didn't detract from the game too much though.

If you can pick it up cheap then do so :)

Men of War:RT offers some very nice fixes from the original MoW, and of course offers up a nice, new campaign. However, that is basically all RT is, so if you are looking for more, look on.

For what it is, MoWRT is an excellent expansion if you are looking for more Singleplayer MoW. Definitely something to pickup if that's what you want-especially if you can find a nice discount.

Nicely done expansion. Campaign is very entertaining and quite long for just an expansion.

The changes in multiplayer were not really well taken by fans.

But as a single player addon it's worth to look at

Definitely worthwhile getting if you enjoyed Men of War and the other games in the series such as Faces of War and Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2.

However, the focus is on singleplayer here, so if you only play the multiplayer, then it's not really worthwhile.

its basically MOW with new missions. i just feel that its a little more cartoony compared to the original MOW, but im probably wrong. also, the voice overs were attempted to be fixed by having a picture of the person speaking, which is very cheap. be warned that it has no multiplayer, which i was very disappointed by because it adds A LOT more to the game. i would wait till the price falls cause its not worth $20 for only single player.

This is a good stand alone campaign mission pack for the Men of War game system. However be warned this is a single player only. This disappoints me very much as much of the fun of this game is in the coop. This to me is like buying Silent Heroes after playing SHOWWII then finding out its single player only. I still like Red Tide because its got all the goodness of the game system that I love so its still worth the money. I just wish they would release multiplayer next time.
