Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes review

This game is really fun! Even though it's completely different from what we've seen previously on the Heroes saga, it brings a very well thought and entertain puzzle game with different charecters and interesting plot. It looks simple, but the level increases graduately and it has enough content to keep you going!

Not a Might and Magic game in practice, but worth checking out.

Another entry in the "Match 3 RPG" genre with a health system that is semi-inspired by the likes of Magic: The Gathering, Clash of Heroes is an addictive puzzle experience that delivers a full story, a deep battle system that requires you to adapt on the fly and a number of hours of enjoyment.

Unless you were looking for a Might and Magic game. Then I could understand why you would be disappointed.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, Not to be overlooked!

By m1ndwarp posted 7th May

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes has a well balanced, and fun method of laying out its story which is common Might & Magic fare, with a bit of graphical flair for the younger audience. This doesn't detract from the gameplay however, and it's bold foray into the match three genre has taken care to avoid many contrivances and pitfalls, while finding its niche in some new gameplay mechanics for the series.

This will not please most hardcore M&M fans, but if you'd enjoy a light-hearted puzzler that's got strong mechanics at it's core, providing deceptively deep strategic possibilities, then grab this as soon an possible and be delighted as you watch this game unfold! 4.3/5

Now this is a fun little game. An excellent blending of genres. I would recommend it to almost anyone, it's a little casual but that's not always a bad thing. Very well executed. I don't know that it does much for the Might and Magic story, it's pretty simplistic. Definitely a solid game though.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is a match-three game with turn-based combat game-mechanics set in a fantasy universe where the player controls one of five young heroes who each try to get back on their feet after events depicted in the very first mission. Each hero has a different type of army and can not be played unless the former hero has finished his chapter. (However, side-missions are optional and you can return to finish these even if you have finished a chapter)

The graphics are drawn in a sort of European manga-style and tend to look somewhat childish. The game isn't particularly good looking but it does look professional. Many events are told through the use of cut-scenes. As far as I recall there is no adult material being spoken about apart from death so the game is quite suitable for younger players as well.

The fights are won by matching units of the same colour which then become "charged". Once they are charged, they gain more health every turn and eventually unleash an attack against the opponent. The opponent can do the same and charges can be negated by having them clash with a stronger charge or other obstacles. However, if a charge manages to break through entirely one of the two combatants will lose health. When all the health is gone, the fight ends. If the player loses, he is allowed to reload to before the fight and try again or walk away until he is stronger.

There are special kinds of fights where the objective is not to drain the enemy's HP and you can customize your army by choosing the types of fighters you will be using, leveling them and picking an item that suits your style-of-play. You can also find and recruit champions that have special powers but take longer to charge up than regular units. They die if they're killed by an attacking charge, unlike regular units.

However, I found the game to be particularly difficult early on and become a cake-walk when my armies were sufficiently leveled up and I had found all the champions. Being able to level your armies (and having to fight higher level armies) often means the side with the lowest level creatures will be obliterated.

The player moves the protagonist around with the mouse, clicking on treasure chests for resources that allow the recruiting of champions and clicking on balloons above characters to unlock side-quests or advance the story.

I found the story to be somewhat childish but amusing. I never finished the game because the end-boss is too strong and doesn't really let you puzzle your way through the fight, it wipes you out if your strategy isn't up-to-par with what the developers had in mind. However, most fights bar a few were quite amusing and the game quite addictive.

I have not played multiplayer but the game features 2 humans versus 2 humans team deathmatch from what I've read.

Recommended to fans of Puzzle Quest and the likes.

This game does NOT auto-save the way you'd think it would! Always save your game before exiting!

I was also completely mistaken. MM is one of my favorite RPG and the Heroes series my favorite strategy game. I thought it was another title from this universe either RPG, like the original, or more an adventure H&S like Crusader of MM. But no. It is something completely independent. It is turned based strategy (for the battles only) in which you have to arrange your units to create lines of offence or defence and make combos for powerful attacks according to the units' colour and type in a sophisticated "match-3" manner (even if it is very simplistic).

I think the publisher wanted to make too much, please the casual gamer on the one hand with the puzzle part and on the other lure the RPG ones with the MM licence and the strategy ones with a Heroes background wich is announced and not seen. Nevertheless the graphics are good and the comic style of the characters is attractive.

Didn't play much and don't think I will since it isn't what I expected. Well, if this game was simply "Clash of Heroes" without "Might & Magic" I think I wouldn't even have looked at it. It's a shame that Ubisoft misused the label this way. Sorry, I didn't like it.

I bought this game cause i like Might and Magic. But i dont understand how this game should contain to the MM universe.

The battles sometimes really depends on your luck, which colors drops on which position.

More than one time there was ever the wrong color on the wrong place, and i lose a battle..

If you like Puzzles, like Puzzle Quest, you could like this game.

I bought this game on sale a little while back and have now gotten more than half-way through the campaign. The campaign is actually a bit longer than I expected. The story is pretty good, but it's not amazing. I think more voice acting would have helped there. But that doesn't matter, because the combat system is really cool. It involves you linking up units to form attack formations nad walls to defend against the enemy. It's a bit puzzly, and if you like the combat system then this game is definatley worth getting, because combat is the biggest part of this game.

I really enjoyed this game. It reminded me of puzzle quest in that it's adding RPG elements to a puzzle game, but this game makes a much more interesting fusion of the two concepts. The combat/puzzle system is quite unique and you have a lot of neat choices to make in terms of your unit compositions and such. During the campaign, right when you start to get bored of one type or army, you get to try something new, so that's fun and they have a few interesting puzzles outside of standard combat, too.

The story is pretty standard fare but the art style is nice and there's some nice humor. All in all, a pretty good value.

Unbelieveably addictive and fun. The mixture of RPG and puzzle is really well done. This game takes one of the most casual of gaming concepts -- matching three or more of something -- and injects it with plenty of depth. I'm about halfway finished with the campaign mode, and it's looking to be about 25 hours long for me. I haven't even touched the multiplayer yet, so there's plenty of game here. The story is interesting, especially given that this is a puzzle game. The graphics have a beautiful, hand-painted look to them. If you enjoy puzzle or RPG games, consider giving this a try.

Hits a sweet spot where TBS, match-3, and upgrade games meet. The animation and mechanics give a lot of feedback to your actions- chaining multiple hits or charging up an elite unit feel really satisfying. The designers also manage to squeeze a surprising amount of variety out of a simple puzzle attack design. It's intuitive very quickly, but stays rewarding and surprising for quite a while. The drawbacks are the limited number of units/tiles you can play with at one time, and the fact that there can be random difficulty spikes or some things not being clearly explained or introduced after the introductory campaign. Still, an addictive and unexpectedly deep game here.

This is a puzzle game with RPG elements to it. It's a pretty interesting concept. You have to try to group units of similar type and colour to form attacks, or make walls for defense. You also have to try and link together your attacks of similar colour for really powerful attacks. Each unit has a different charge time so you have to try and form an attack where similar coloured units hit the enemy at the same time. It's fun, and makes you think a little bit but not very addictive. I thought the animation looked really nice, but the story in the campaign is a little dull, and seemed to lack depth. This is the type of game that is fun to kill an hour or so at a time, but that's about it.

I adore this game to bits and only wish there was much much more of this.

I played it's original version on the DS which I enjoyed but I got this game for long train journeys.

The gameplay is simple but additive and fun and I loved every moment of playing this game. At it's core you are making rows of 3 or more to send units over to the other side of the field to do damage to the foes HP. This is the same of the foe but you can both make things like walls and have your stats boosted by items. It's hard to give a good sum up of this game without getting into detail, so what I would say is get the demo off steam or GG or whoever offers it and give it a good try.

Don't get this game if you are hoping for a game similar to Heroes of might and magic though because it isn't like this at all!

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes review

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes offers great entertainment value, this is of course assuming you are into these RPGish strategy games. The campaign easily lasts 15 hours, most likely more, if you fancy doing a 100% completion. The campaign as a total, functions as a light-weighted free-handed tutorial, which introduces you to all the different races, as well as hinting towards neat tricks you can use in online-play against other humans, there is however, an actual tutorial in the game as well, which short and simple introduces you to the core mechanics of the game. The campaign takes you through different styles of "combat-modes", where the objects of each mode doesn't always have to be -empty the opponents health pool-, but rather, hit these two objects within the same turn, which for example would open a sealed door etcetera. The campaign also offers unique boss battles, which does take some trial-and-error to succesfully deal with.

The presentation of the game is fantastic. It uses a rather neat cartoonish art style, obviously this is entierly subjective, but I'm a huge fan of it. The UI is clean and simple to understand, with very few flaws.

The game does borrow quite a few elements from Heroes of Might and Magic. If you have played any games from the Heroes franchise, more noteably the last couple of installments, you will recognize many of the units presented in the game, which would be to be expected, since the story acts as a pre-quel to Heroes of Might and Magic V, and the game does afterall, carry the name Might and Magic, and as such, many units from the heroes franchise returns, such as the Succubus, Angels, Treants, Vampires and so forth.

I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but I'm sure there's a lot of clever dicision making to be made, and smart tactics to follow, which would turn out to be some great entertainment to be had there as well.
