Metal Brigade Tactics review

Simple, but mostly fun game. Could use a bit more polish in the writing and general world building, as it all feels a bit generic. The game play sort of like a lot of console turn based strategy games like Advance Wars or Final Fantasy Tactics, which we don't see a ton of on PC. Can be a bit difficult at times. Nice variety of strategy and equip options, and the game is fairly fast paced for its' genre. Worth a look since it's so cheap.

Interesting game, but sadly a very limited campaign, unless you can get the game extremely cheap your money is best spent elsewhere.

Ok game. As far as gameplay its is everything you could expect for 4 bucks. The whole currency system is very unballanced and quickly outpaces your abiliy to upgrade equipment. No spare levels for extra cash is a dumb move, to limited dont download.

I bought this game not expecting much but I got hooked on it as it is similar to BattleTech

but easier to get into. The game was a challenge. I hope they come out with an expansion or more content that enhances the game play, like larger maps or different weapons and equipment.

I had to try this game as a huge fan of the Fire Emblem series. This is what you might get, when you cross Fire Emblem with Advance Wars. You control several Mecha's called "Vertical Armor", which can be equipped with different weapons and boosts. After a while, your pilots gain experience and perks. The story isn't anything special, really mediocre.

Don't even bother buying this game, if you need extraordinary graphics and a modern presentation, because even the Game Boy Advance games I mentioned looked better than this.

So why do I give 4/5 stars?

It may be a Fire Emblem clone, but it is well made on in its own way. I had fun playing it.

If you like games like Advanced Wars (Gameboy handhelds) and Field Commander (PSP) this game will be right up your alley. It has similar mechanics like rock paper scissors system for dealing damage, move and shoot, and counter attacks. Customization is fairly limited, as most mechs have specific weaponry they can equip or not (for instance the sniper rifle early game is only for one specific mech.) Artillery in this game is interesting though, as artillery has it's own phase, deals no friendly fire, and the unit firing the artillery can still move after launching it. I'd try the demo and definitely buy it if you like what you see.

reminds me of the first game ever invented

if you don't have time to read a book about robot warriors, and comic books are just too complicated for you, and you're TV is broken, also you just lost your job and you have no money to spend on anything at all, but you have some blue coins saved up, then make sure there's nothing else available before you get this game.

This is a slow to get into game, but can be fairly entertaining for anyone who is into mecha, even though lacking in a customization feature, the battle system works well, and i highly reccomend this game to any strategist game players.

For a relatively small game, MBT offers a great big batch of fun.

The game is set in a futuristic world where armored robots called vertical armor (VA) are the primary means of waging war. Set against the backdrop of a civil war/popular uprising, you find yourself managing a unit of VAs in addition to piloting one in battle.

Unit management comes in the form of buying new VAs and upgrading them with weapons and accessories. You are also responsible for matching your VAs (and components) with pilots that can make the best use of them. The combat system's rock-paper-siccors bonuses are even more important when combined with pilot specialties. Characters gain experience and perks (you get to choose) that are persistant from mission to mission. In addition, you gain money and bonus equipment for completing the missions.

The combat system is turn-based and set on a grid map. You deploy your VAs and manuever them to make the most of weapon effects (remember the R-P-S counter system), weapon ranges, terrain, map features, and pilot abilities. The effect is a game that seems simple on the surface, but delivers a dynamic and engrossing experience. Controls are less intuitive than most current releases, but only slightly. Controlling the map view leaves something to be desired - like the ability to scroll the screen with your mouse. The graphics certainlyly aren't Crysis quality, but they aren't meant to be. Overall, visual quality is good (especially for the system requirments) and suites the game play.

In Summary:

MBT is a fun game with just the right amount of depth to be enjoyalbe, but not stressful. The storyline isn't epic, but reasonably interesting. Asset management is simple, but has enough variety to keep you interested. The graphics are nice enough to keep you involved and represent the various effects adaquately. Combat involves enough factors that it stays fresh. The R-P-S system and pilot development compound the combat formulas in a way that is exciting wihtout being cumbersome. The best part of this game is that all of this can be obtained for the low price of $5. Keep 'em coming Busking Software and GamersGate!

The game is a neatly written clone of Front Mission, with its own tone and ideas. Sadly, it doesn't feel very optimized, both in the gameplay and stability departments. The game will sometimes crash or not react as it should, and some levels just can't be beat at some difficulties with the weaponry you have at hand at this point.

However, if you're willing to overlook some of those flaws, you should find a few quite challenging maps to tackle, and the editor allows for further scenarios to be made at your leisure. A worthy purchase.

Metal Brigade Tactics belongs in any good game library. A good book library contains both novels such as War and Peace and short stories such as The Ransom of Red Chief. This little short gem is perfect to play while waiting for a friend who is late.

"Metal Brigade Tactics" is quite an interesting turn based strategy game. It brings good memories for those who played good old games like "Laser Squad" or "Sabre Team". At the beginning you control a very small team of armored vehicles and your aim is to destroy the VAs controlled by the enemy. As you progress you can buy better weapons and new VAs. The missions are quite diverse, so it makes you interested in finishing the game. The plot could have been better, same with graphics and music. However, it is quite enjoyable indie game with strong gameplay.

It is a realy funy game, but a little bit to short.

BUT if you play it online later, when you complete the Campaign, you will have 100%fun.You have it the whole time, but like I said, the Campaign is to short. There is a Skirmish mode,but.....THATS IT!To have longtime fun,you Have to play it online.

Just got the demo, agree with mvrusso -- this feels like playing an SNES Front Mission game but with some add-on features that recall Fire Emblem (you select from two weapons and there is a weapon trianlge).

Plus the Artillery system is more interesting than missiles in Front Mission IMO.

The demo sold me, for $10 I think its pretty sweet although if you're not interested in the nostalgia factor you might think differently

By mvrusso posted 25th September 2010

You definitely get your $10 worth here, as long as you are comfortable with the turn-based, retro style, a la X-Com. A long, tough campaign (at least for me), skirmish mode, and an editor. Not a lot of terrain types, but loads of unit upgrades and that one-more-turn feel. Check the company's forums for instructions on how to play full-screen. Would be nice if it sold decently and they released more content.
