Massive Assault: Phantom Renaissance review

By Archonsod posted 5th May 2010

Massive Assault : PR is a turn based wargame set in the future. The game features two factions with broadly identical units from heavy tanks to big stompy robots and aircraft.

What makes the game interesting is a number of little twists on the mechanics, for example at the start of a game you have one or two hidden allies which are basically your deployment areas, and each player takes it in turn to reveal an ally and deploy forces to their borders. Neutral cities exist in the game and when your opponent crosses their borders they may spawn resistance units which are placed under your command.

The AI is reasonably competent in single player and the maps are well designed. In combination with the various game modes there's enough content to provide plenty of entertainment before you even dip into the multiplayer side of things.
