Majesty 2 Battles of Ardania Expansion

Rating: 4.1 (327 votes cast)

When there is peace in the kingdom, and nothing has happened in a month, any good King would itch for war. And even if not a full scale war, then at least for a skirmish; and if there is no skirmish, then at least it's time to go hunting.

And if the game is a werewolf, then well – that's a sure cure for boredom! But what started as a hunt may grow into a skirmish; and a skirmish may yet develop into a full-scale war. Or maybe the Adviser is exaggerating as always and all you'll have to face is a few minor problems....

But no, deep in the darkness there prowls a mysterious mage-werewolf, who unites hordes of monsters to pose a hairy, scary threat to Ardania. Could it be that some ancient enemy, or his heirs, has returned to reclaim his domain? To overcome this menace, the Great King must draw upon all his skills, all the wisdom of his advisor, as well as the powers of an unexpected ally....

  • “Heirs of the Night” campaign -- protect your borders and face an unknown threat in 8 new missions

Nice little expansion for great game. Adds new campaing mission with funny story with usual Majesty humour. New missions are good challenge and keep you occupied some time. I recomend this to everyone that likes orginal game.

A nice little addon to Majesty 2 which will net you 8 new mission and some new monsters to beat up. Fans of the game will want to pick this up but be warned it's harder than the base game. All and all, a nice addon but wait for a sale IMHO.

Best expansion by far, the added difficulty gives it a new challenge and a very interesting theme to go along with it. Must get if you think you mastered majesty and are dieing for harder missions.

Only masochists need to bother with Majesty 2: Battles of Ardania, an incredibly tough expansion pack.

Should pose a real challenge even to Majesty 2 veterans.

Adds some co-op maps.

Extremely difficult right from the very start of the solo campaign.

Mission design mirrors the last expansion, Kingmaker.

Very nice game, in same line than previous expansions but with many new quests, monsters, and specially harder, much more hard than before. This make the game more interesting and the campaign long so is highly recomended if u liked the other games.

One of the best expansion of Majesty 2

I love this expansion

Basically there is no new hero units, but the quest is harder than before (only 1 new majesty spell, that I can remember)

The 2 last quest was the best, it's harder than the previous expansion.

I give this game 5/5

Similar to Kingmaker in that it only gives new campaign missions and new monsters. The missions are better than the original and a bit more difficult with more time based quests. They call it 'Battles of Ardania" and despite there being reasonably larger number in the groups of monster to fight none of the skirmishes between heroes and monsters would be considered a battle imo.

More of the same, but with the difficulty level ratcheted up. If you enjoyed Majesty 2 and Kingmaker, you will most likely enjoy this expansion too. My main criticism is that the difficulty is very variable, ranging from punishingly hard to fairly straightforward. The campaign's difficulty doesn't steadily increase but bounces up and down from one mission to the next.

The new features don't alter gameplay in any fundamental way, except that I find it's now necessary to organize heroes into parties, whereas parties were often optional in Majesty 2 and Kingmaker, and on the final mission I needed to build temples whereas previously I could get by with guild heroes. Another change from previous Majesty 2 campaigns is that on some missions defeat is possible right up until the final stages. Many of Majesty 2's flaws remain unaddressed; for example, hero AI is still erratic and enemy behavior follows a predetermined script.

This expansion includes 8 missions. The campaign's storyline is enjoyable, told in the same light-hearted style as Majesty 2 and Kingmaker. The map design and sub-quests are varied enough to maintain interest on replays, provided frustration doesn't set in on the extremely difficult maps.

What to say about this expansion.

First of all I am a big fan of Majesty and that will cloud my opinion on this expansion.

The expansion adds 1 new campaign, a good campaign with original twists. New mobtypes have been added making you try all kind of new strategies. A fun expansion.

Now the cons.

I already disliked Kingmaker, however that expansion actually added way more to the game. They mention 4 new multiplayer maps, I wish they fixed first before adding maps. And they mention about a new set of weapons availeble, well there are none new weapons.

What to expect:

8 new campaign missions

a nice total of new monsters

no new heroes

no new items

1 new majesty spell

no new skirmish missions

no additional content in gameshop

no new abilities.

Basically a musthave for a Majesty die hard, you didn't like Kingmaker? Don't get this then or wait for cheaper times. Or you might get lucky additional content will get availeble.

As Majesty fan I still give it a 3/5 star.

Majesty 2 Battles of Ardania Expansion review

A great follow-up to Kingmaker with the emphasis on harder battles and more dynmaic mission goals. As with the previous two games, this expansion has an aptly set campaign with a story that follows on from the adventures of the first two.

There are a number of free goodies such as spells, hero abilities and upgrades available from the Majesty 2 shop which is available as long as you have a Gamersgate account (at least this was true for me). There are also some that you can buy with your earned blue coins if you totally want to max. out your Majesty 2 experience. But these additions arent necessary to play the game. Yet they allow for different approaches to your strategy.

The action is built upon the enhancements of Kingmaker, with better grouping of baddies, larger numbers and increased frequency of attacks. Varied patterns of approach also mean that building a single line of defence against one threat leaves you open to attack from other directions.

The mix and match of mission goals also adds variation to proceedings. Something that I felt was lacking in the original game and in Kingmaker - to some degree.

To this end, the increase in difficulty balances the game and all the resources you have available to a higher level. Meaning that you now must pace yourself and your heroes before throwing the might of your forces in the final battles of each level. Something that you didnt have to worry about before Kingmaker. Some of the latter stage enemy bases are really punishing to attack, unless you have high level heroes at your disposal.

Overall the game provides a solid effort, delivering a demading challenge which I enjoyed immensely.
