Magicka: Vietnam DLC

Rating: 4.3 (369 votes cast)

Magicka: Vietnam is the first mission DLC for the highly popular PC action/ adventure game Magicka. Nowadays it seems like every game is getting a Vietnam add-on and Magicka is no exception.

Magicka: Vietnam features a lengthy challenge scenario that puts you in the boots of a Wizard GI. Venture deep into the Goblin-Cong jungle, with up to three fellow soldiers, to liberate prisoners from a POW camp. Then you must destroy enemy positions, escape the perils of the jungle and return safely to the evacuation helicopter.

At the request of the community, Magicka: Vietnam also features a new challenge map with increased difficulty.

In the Magickal jungles of Vietnam you'll have an array of Vietnam-era weapons and a special Magick that calls in a napalm strikes on enemy positions. Players will of course still have access to what makes Magicka truly unique – the dynamic spell casting system and a healthy dose of humour.

Main Features:

  • 2 Challenge maps (1 scenario challenge & 1 survival challenge)
  • New Vietnam themed enemies

Interesting change of pace! Worth it for those who love Magicka and think a bit of a different expansion could lead to good times. Worth it for Magicka fans.

Purchasing this DLC separately at this point is a bit silly, but the DLC itself is not terrible. I'd say it's worth looking into.

Challenging and fun

This expansion adds a good challenge to play with your friends and a lot of new weapons for your use. Mayhem and destruction are the keywords in an online 4-player coop. If you liked blowing things up and killing your friends, you won't be disappoint.

As with the rest of Magicka, the game offers good fun, more so with friends, and a laugh as it pokes fun at various themes from games/films. Well worth the money!

They came from the treed, Hamburger hill, I love the smell of napalm in the morning, blah, and blargh. We've all heard the (poor) jokes already now let's talk about this DLC. You get one scenario challenge map and one survival challenge map. The scenario challenge is unique to this DLC, it's basicaly one long map where you struggle to survive. Also unlocked with this is the napalm magick which drops fire on the map, you also get a GI robe but robes don't really matter much to me, except the cyber robe which is nice for solo play. All and all, one of the better DLC for magicka as you get large maps rather that just online arena maps. Note: if you are wondering you just get a key to enter into your steam client to unlock the DLC.

The challenge map is pretty fun, but short. Then the survival arena is boring. Pretty lackluster dlc. If you liked Magicka, buy this when it's on sale.

A brilliant parody of Battlefield. Grab your guns, grab your magic, bring on the fiery goodness. It's a strange sort of game mode, but worth every penny! Pick it up and join the fight!

Great DLC which offers the best ranged capabilities in the early game thanks to the grenade staff and machine gun weapon. The new jungle challenge missions are fun (calling Napalm Strike on Goblin-Cong anyone?). Also, the robe looks so cool!

Magicka Vietnam creates the perfect alternative from the original experience, with none of the earlier issues. With a funny and believable jungle setting, the fantasy Vietnam conflict is right up the alley of any fan of this release and may even interest newcomers. Just be sure to have some allies by your side, as the Vietcong are merciless bastards that need a thorough bombing and napalm spells lovely in the morning.

Magicka + vietnam ?

Well, the vietnam setting is of little appeal to me. I wouldn't buy a strategy game or a RTS about that war. So what about Magicka ? I personnally don't like the introduction of guns. Matter of taste, but also because like gold8dragoon points out, guns do actually limit the spellcasting frenzy. Eventually, it's more about what you actually like in Magicka. If you want some more challenge, then you might want to try this dlc. Otherwise, the other dlcs might be better value

Magicka: Vietnam DLC review

This game continues the fun coop game play that I personally loved in the main game, but is way too short and unbalanced to justify the asking price. At half the price of the main game I was expecting a shorter campaign taking place in Vietnam, but this DLC is only one short level. My friends and I beat it in less than twenty minutes and were left asking is that it? The introduction of guns doesn't help the games poor balancing either. Cheap deaths are no fun and that is all you will get from this game. Enemies will shout at you from off screen and all of the continous machine gun fire will stop you from casting spells correctly. Plus there is almost none of the games trademark humor.

So for half of the price of the main game you can get one new short, frustrating level and one new equally frustrating challenge map. I would avoid this at the price they are currently asking. The game is not as much fun with the introduction of guns, all semblence of balance just goes out the window.

Wizards, goblins, trolls and powerful spells in... Vietnam!? Only in Magicka realm it is possible! But beware, this DLC is not for newcomers, it is a add on for experienced players, especially when you play a Rescue Mission mode, one of the new challenges. This DLC is especially made for multiplayer gamers, we are able to use completely new spells (like napalm) and many new weapons like AK-47, M60, M16 or hand grenades. Some people may think that Magicka lost its special climate when firearms were added, but it is quite the opposite! You can't win using only firearms, skilled wizard will combine every weapon in his arsenal. For example we can freeze horde of goblins, shoot first line of them with our M60 and them drop a napalm strike on the remnants. This DLC provides many hours of great fun for extremely low price.

Magicka: Vietnam DLC review

This game is a lot of fun, especially when you are playing cooperatively with friends, family, anyone you like. There is a lot of opportunity for mistakes, partner death and surprise combos. You'll find a lot of information online about this game, but I recommend discovering spells and secrets organically. Also, the tongue-and-cheek approach to the story telling is well done and worth paying attention to. The only, only reason I would not give this game the highest marks possible is because there are some pretty noticable performance issues and bugs happening, some of them pretty severe. The game is playable for me and those I play with, but we notice the stuttering and had difficulty connecting initially, outside of the steam invite (couldn't find the game but if we were invited via steam we could connect). I can't wait to see what else this studio has up their sleeves (hopefully with more polish the next time around).

This is exactly as Magicka, it is an addon that you chose to play when you pick wizard in the campaign menu. Magicka is an awesome game with a unique spellcasting system, and because of the prize of the game, everyone should buy it!

The best game ever for Lan parties.

A fun and great addition to Magicka, goblins with fire-arms (not to mention trolls!) nearly require some friendly "assistance" in order for maximum enjoyment, much like the original Magicka game.
