Sega's Answer to Zelda?
It seems to me that this game was designed primarily to compete with Nintendo's ever popular Legend of Zelda series... thing is while it may be the answer to Zelda, somewhere along the way it forgot the question. I had really high hopes for this game after reading a little bit about it & watching a bit of gameplay on Youtube, unfortunately it failed to live up to my (admittedly) overly high expectations. The combat is nice, but does nothing to set itself apart from basically every other fantasy Action-RPG of the time. The story is also something that could have been improved. While it is true that far worse stories have been told in these kind of games, the story in this game did nothing to capture my attention. All I can really recall is that I was a treasure hunter searching for the ultimate treasure & that I helped 2 warring tribes end there bickering. For as cheap as it is it really isn't that bad of a game, but I still can't in good concious give it any more than 3 stars.
Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole review
Landstalker is one of my favorite console RPG games and I'm glad that it's available for the PC again. It's basically a Zelda-clone but with enough qualities to stand on its own. The graphics were very good for the time it was released and the music isn't bad either. It's very atmospheric at times, especially in later dungeons. The story is pretty generic though, which is typical for its genre and age.
The only real downside are the controls, which aren't very accurate and become very frustrating when you need to jump on certain platforms. A controller certainly helps here.
There aren't many sidequests in this game but be prepared to spend around 20 to 30 hours for the first playthrough, depending on your skills.
