The Lord of the Rings Conquest

Rating: 3.1 (9 votes cast)

In this exciting, action strategy game, players fight on the side of both Good and Evil in all the
biggest battles from The Lord of the Rings movies. The Battlefront format allows them to switch
between characters at will, to suit the circumstance or their style, reliving – and even reinventing –
the chaotic and engrossing conflicts from the films as they choose how best to tackle their
objectives and defeat their enemies. In online multiplayer, gamers can choose to be Evil from the
outset.

FEATURES
• Play as Evil characters in a brand new, ‘Evil’ campaign. Battle through scenarios after Frodo
failed to destroy the One Ring; it’s good to be bad!
Acclaimed Battlefront gameplay in a fantasy setting allows players to choose the way they
fight, as Warrior, Archer, Mage or Scout in melee and ranged combat
• Battle online, with up to 16 players in instant action mode or 2-players in a co-op campaign or
offline with 2-4 players* in split-screen.
• Local multiplayer— split-screen with up to 4 players competitively or 2 player co-op
• A massive cast of characters & weapons adds great depth to the gameplay: Heroes, Wargs,

The Lord of the Rings Conquest review

By Morboth posted 12th Dec 2010

Pandemic's take on the Lotr Series: while a valiant effort it fails blatantly at creating a believable and enjoyable atmosphere as they did with the Battlefront series...

Why? Because the game feels not like an iteration of Tolkien's masterpiece, in fact, it bears even little resemblance to the movies even though the skins used for the game's characters are mostly taken from the Movies, as well as the music and effects.

Then why is it so remotely LotR? Because it resembles more a third person Warcraft or Warhammer game than a LotR one... You can swing your sword as the Warrior whilst setting it ablaze... you can play an Assassin's Creed look alike character (the Scout) who cloaks himself and stabs his foes into oblivion. Finally you've got the Archer and Mage classes... the first isn't excempt from the overall weirdness that plagues the game, as you can shoot fire arrows, poison arrows or multiple arrows... all unheard of in Tolkien's lore, but still.... and the Mage is a blatant insult to the franchise, it needs no explanation.

That being said, the game does have some nice graphics and effects, but the gameplay is like... 'meh'.

2.5/5 for me...
