Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West review

By ranko_press posted 10th March

Journalists unfairly compared this game to TF2 which made many players bypass this diamond in the rough. The only connection to TF2 is the fact that like many multiplayer games today its a team based shooter with classes in it.

Wild West is perfect setting for shooting game because it evokes certain kind of nostalgia, bringing childhood memories of Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, playing 'cowboys and indians' in the backyard.

Instead of 'classes' there are 'characters'. Gunslinger is master of close range combat wielding heavy colt. His special ability is the legendary 'fanning' technique. Miner is gritty warrior armed with shotgun and dynamite. His is the kingdom of semi-distance in firefights. Deputy packs a nifty Winchester. He is equally good at all ranges, acts as mainstay and commander in the fight. Last but not least, there is a hottie Trapper, carrying hunting rifle aka sniper, also able to place deadly traps.

Each character radiates aura of synergy, so if you are close to Gunslinger you shoot more straight, if you are in range of Deputy your weapon is more deadly etc. Each action, kill and assist gives Xp which helps characters level up and enhance aura strength.

Add to it lovely designed maps, where you can shoot from the roofs, dash through caves, collect sacks of gold, toss powderkegs, man the Gatling gun, rob the bank.

Moreover, game LOOKS GOOD, sharp with nice details, but not clogged so you can really focus on the fighting. Character models also look nice with good animations. Specially awesome is the "I'm not dead yet" animation. Apparently, when you go down, you are not really knocked out cold. There is still fighting spirit left in you. Even with last dying throes, you can shoot and revenge yourself. So don't be surprised if downed enemy continues to pump lead your way.

Initial bugs and glitches (now patched), coupled with poor reviews (game journalists can be real pain) moved players away from this awesome game. Don't miss out and have some good old cowboy fun!

Charming with its atmosphere, but it feels a lot like similar team-based games, and to be honest I don't know why I would play this more than, say, TF2 in the long run. Still, a fun experience for a while and its setting was interesting to explore. Cowboys are cool.

It's a fun 3rd person shooter in a western style environment. You have different classes to choose which gives this game some variety.

Sadly the player base is very small and it's a multiplayer only title. You can still play with bots and you will find some matches in the afternoon hours or at the weekends.

This game is great for a small LAN party but note that everyone needs an internet connection to the Steam community servers, you can't connect to other players in offline mode.

When my blue coins were enough to buy a game, I bought it. And I could not stop playing. It is a very fun game and, it has many original ideas. It looks like Team Fortness, though. However, you have to give it a try. The servers are empty most of times, but if you find a server with players, you can have a lot of fun. I recommend it.

Lead and Gold is set in the American Old West. It features four character classes and six game modes to choose from. Players work as a team to accomplish the objectives of a chosen game mode. The game received mixed reviews, with Metacritic reporting a 70% average score on the PC, and a 68% average on the PlayStation 3. Review scores for the game varied greatly, ranging from 36% to 90%. It was often compared as an Old West version of Team Fortress 2.

Wonderful team-based western shooter in comic style and fantastic game modes. It features the unique synergy system, which provides power-ups to encourage co-operation and team tactics. This game is the closest thing to Red Dead Redemption on PC

Lead and Gold will give you many hours of great fun.

The fact that you only play online against other players gives you new missions all the time. And that you during a game can change your caracter if you get killed is a really nive feature.

Spelnyheterna recomends Lead and Gold beacuse it´s a really good game with a low price.

I quite enjoyed what I've played of Lead & Gold, but I feel it's important to point out that it's really not all that popular online, and there's very little to do in single-player.

As for the gameplay, I think it's fairly typical class-based shootery. You have various objectives, such as to get gold from a vault and bring it back to a certain spot, and you do so as one of four classes, all of which have distinct gameplay and visual styles.

Overall, it's a good game but one that really needs more players.

Look there's no getting around it, blasting peoples heads' off, running around with gold etc. its just FUN. The controls are simple the graphics are outstanding for a game so cheap, however there is a downside like the fact there has been many times were I have launched the game and there were about three servers, all of them were full...not super great. However if you can see past the dodgy servers, you can have loads of fun. Now some pros and Cons.

PROS-

:Amazing graphics

:Four very diverse and different classes.

:Great amount of game modes ie: robbery, shootout.

:And a reasonably priced game

Cons-

:Connecting to servers is dismal and is a hit or miss.

Conclusion

:Get more than what you pay for an all around excellent shooter, i recommend it to you, see you in the wild west!
