My son likes driving games- especially the big rigs. He's played quite a few, and when I saw this come out, especially at $4.99, I figured I'd pick it up for him as a surprise. It was an exceptional purchase! Though driving a truck for miles and miles is not my idea of a good game, he really enjoys it- and the managing your company aspect of it gives it legs and throws in a bit of educational time to boot. You start out with a rig and a bit of cash, and have to choose what cargo to pick up and the job to take. The objective, of course, is to make the trip on time, with no damage to the cargo. On the way, you can optimize your trip by picking up other loads on the way. You also have to decide whether to push it by speeding or stick to the speed limit, and when to stop to re-fuel. Unlike 18 wheels of steel, you don't manage other truckers, but you do get to get more upgrades to your current truck by stopping at garages. The soundtrack isn't as good as those found in 18 wheels of steel, but is serviceable. The graphics are only adequate at best, but seeing as the game was actually released back in 2002 even though it just arrived on GG, that explains the lack of modern visuals. The weather in particular falls short, though it works well enough. There are also a few other modes in playing to give the game legs, though in the end, the lack of managing other truckers does limit the game's life. But for 4.99, you can't beat the entertainment value as it's a solid game that provides entertainment for those that like truck driving sims.
