Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie

Rating: 3.9 (44 votes cast)

Jack Driscoll, scriptwriter, follows director Carl Dernham and actress Ann Darrow to Skull Island where Dernham intends to film his next movie. But primeval creatures await them: giant insects, dinosaurs, and King Kong. Based on Peter Jackson's remake, King Kong lets you play as Jack Driscoll and Kong himself.

Jack must use a variety of weapons, traps, and fire to kill or repel Skull Island's fauna. Kong's levels are third-person brawlers set on Skull Island and New York City, where Kong must puzzle his way through environmental obstacles and thrash his opponents.

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie review

Great game. Possibly one of the only good games made after a movie. Graphics are good but game is a bit sluggish with loading times. Gameplay is also fun which is the main thing. For just £4.99 it is a steal.

Be wary with this game on Windows 7!!! This game had bugs in 3 or 4 levels which made finishing the level, and thus proceeding to the next level impossible. I had to download a 100% completed save game file, and replace it with mine in the King Kong directory and skip the broken sections (only several minutes worth of gameplay over various levels, which I watched on youtube)

I bought this game because it looked awesome, playing as king kong and such.

How wrong i was.

The FOV is just horrible, it feels like your face is smashed into the screen, the graphics are unimpressive and yet the game still stutters like its being electrocuted.

Some of the gameplay is interesting but doesnt compensate for the fact that playing this game was physically painful to me, my head was aching from the strain of trying to focus on the screen. The widescreen is a joke, since the FOV feels like its set to 40.

avoid this at all costs. MAYBE buy it if you have a 4:3 display and dont mind a jittery game with bland graphics.

Pretty good game. Unique in that ammo for weapons is very limited, essentially forcing you to improvise, which is a pleasant diversion from the norm. However, the controls can be a bit...unintuitive at times, although the quality of the gameplay makes up for them, mostly.

One of the rare occasions where a movie license translates well to a game. Played mostly in first person perspective, you lead Jack through Kong's island, with many levels maintaining the theme of different sections of the movie.

At times the action switches to 3rd person when you control Kong, and I felt this wasn't as satisfying, as his moves are quite limited, but thankfully these sections are over quite quickly, and you can get back to controlling Jack.

This game should appeal to most people, whether you liked the movie, want a decent movie tie-in, or just want a decent action game at a great price.

Best movie I have ever played.

This game is far beyond just an FPS.

In fact, there's really not an incredible amount of shooting.

This game's more about puzzle solving and figuring out the best way to get of any situation you're in whether it's a stick, a spear, or a gun (usually a gun but your run out of ammo quickly).

It's very linear but is that always such a bad thing?

This game is worth at the very least one playthrough and at even the base price on here it's a steal.

I remember watching the movie for the first time, I was so exited I immediately wanted to replace the excitement in a game as well. when The official Game got out, tho, the excitement was not the same. It was bigger.

King Kong was and still is an awesome, eye candy game where you play as one of the crew stuck on the island or as (surprise) King Kong. The gameplay is solid, the controls are responsive and the story is worthy of the movie.

At times, tho, the game seemed a bit hard and some locations were not as good as I would want, but the usage of weapons and the nice combination of first and third person battles are an adorable must not only for the movie fans but also for all the hard core gamers.

We often see popular movie-licensed games but we seldom enjoy them immensely. King Kong is one of those game that feel like coming home after a rainy day. :)

King Kong is easily one of the best movie licensed games out there. That might not sound like much of a recommendation given what usually passes for a movie licensed game. But when you take into account the fact that I'm saying it's not too far short of a Chronicles of Riddick level of quality it does say something about the game.

The game may be labelled as a first person shooter, but to be honest with you that doesn't really give an accurate picture of what you can expect. You're not gunning down the local wildlife with hundreds of rounds at your disposal.

You have a bare minimum of ammo which is occasionally topped up by a friendly pilot air dropping in supplies to help keep you and your crew alive. Most of the time you're using spears and gigantic ribs from the skeletons that litter the island to fend off the ferocious fauna.

Graphically the game is very polished. Sure, it's about 6 years old now and it's obviously not bleeding edge anymore, but the art guys did a fine job in depicting the island and its inhabitants in ways that are still rather impressive at times.

About my only real criticism is how the King Kong sections don't make use of the mouse's superior ability to control the camera in third person and you get lumped with a fixed camera instead. It doesn't often get in the way, but it's needlessly inhibiting all the same.

Here is one of the very few actually good movie adaption games, in the special "gamers edition" form that uses the xbox 360 assets rather than those used for the PS2/gamecube. Back in late 2005 the download only gamers edition required an enthusiasts machine to get it running, now pretty much any gaming PC should run it well.

The game is very immersive - it does some interesting things with gameplay switching between Jack Driscoll (FPS) and playing as Kong (3rd person brawling). Considered a "short" game back in 2005 it is about par with modern shooters. You get about 6 hours of gameplay, but it is all excellent and does not outlive its welcome.

I never played the PC version before now due to it using the dreaded Starforce DRM but now that gamersgate have it DRM free I am happy to spend my money.
