Kung-Fu Strike is a fun little brawler with a deceptively simple control system that creates a nice flow of combat.
You start off with a basic set of moves (low attack, high attack, block, special) which you can then expand over the course of the game by spending the in-game currency. At first you can easily throw together ludicrous combos without much regard for your opponent. Later on though the game requires you to learn the patterns of your enemies in order to succeed and precise timing is required to make use of that knowledge.
After a few stages you also gain the ability to call in some help in the form of NPCs that fight with you side-by-side.
A nice touch is the change between 2D- and 3D-arenas which combined with a variety of enemies creates the necessary diversity between the levels.
On the technical side of things the verdict sadly isn't quite so rosy. This is a console-port and it shows.
Ingame there is no option to change resolution or alter the keybindings.
There is now a utility in the game's folder that allows you to do these things (look under "(Steam folder)\steamapps\common\kungfustrike\KungFuStrike.exe") which works but freezes for several seconds after every click. Also the camera sometimes chooses very awkward angles and moves at the least opportune time causing you to kick the air instead of the enemy.
Overall it works but the port could have used more attention. If we're lucky this could still be resolved with a patch.
Overall I've enjoyed this game very much (and continue to do so) despite its flaws.
