Woodcutter Simulator 2012 review

By jonkets posted 29th May 2012

I am conflicted about this game, as I am with all products by UIG Entertainment. Some things they do really well. They create a very immersive environment that makes me feel like I'm actually (in this case) a worker in the woodcutting industry.

But then there's a whole lot of other stuff that is just plain annoying. For one, the physics engine: example, I cut down a tree and it spins like a top for fifteen seconds before it falls. That's just one of many similar faults. Plus: even though the graphics is quite good, it's not state of the art; yet on max setting it crashes my system. I have an eight core cpu and my gpu is GeForce 570 - not too shabby! So why do I have to reduce graphics detail in the game to keep it from crashing?

As I said above, this is a great game with lots going for it. But if your system is not mid to high range in the graphics department, expect to run in the lowest setting.

The only difference between this game and the 2011 game is the addition of a drive-able log truck and a wood chip truck. You will also be able to use a chain saw to fell trees, but there really no apparent reason to do so. Unfortunately these additions do not make up for the silly physics, and numerous bugs. While doing the tutorials you'l notice that the developers didn't even bother to update them using the new trucks so you can complete the tutorial. What they've done is taken an older game that was marginal to begin with and made it worse. With some patching it might be playable, but as it is....not worth the bother.
