It's rather hard to say anything conclusive about Iron Grip: Warlord. It is primarily a shooter, with a dark and gritty steampunk setting. The graphics could be judged as outdated or amateurish, but they are consistent, the design suits the setting and they aren't too bad - what's more, it runs well, even on weaker systems. Some keywords have been thrown around, like Tower Defense and RTS. While certain elements are present - for example the main force of the bad guys is moving on pre-defined paths, and you can set up small structures (MG nests and such) on those paths - it remains first and foremost a shooter. Other than in tower defense, the attackers will always attack your structures along their way, making them resemble automatic turrets and the like from other shooters more than actual TD towers. Other than in tower defense, enemies that reach your stronghold don't disappear and reduce your life counter - they try to destroy your stronghold and stay, in case it is rebuilt. Plus, there is no fixed number of waves. Both sides have a morale counter, akin to those found in the Battlefield series, though as a bar, not numbers. It is also slowly raising while an officer is present (for the bad guys) or your stronghold is intact. One main objective is, thus, to find and kill the officer, whenever one appears. It has cooperative multiplayer, which is nice, but sadly rather empty. The demo provided shows how a typical level might look like, although enemy variety seems to increase with levels. All in all, it is a good blend of some elements of a host of other games in one shooter that can really invoke the atmosphere of a steampunk fight for survival against an oppressive force and overwhelming odds. For the asking price? A great game. Try it!
