The plot puts you in a post-apocalyptic world. You enter the reality of the year 223 since Great Cataclysm. The world we knew was erased as the result of a mysterious accident. In less than one hour the most part of the world population disappeared. Those who survived try to adapt to new conditions. There are new cities and settlements with trading alliances and mobsters. The vital transport hubs are controlled by gangsters and pillagers. Hence, armored heavy truck drivers have become the only resisting force against the “shadow” elements.

You are to drive through dangerous regions of the new Earth with its mysterious places and hostile habitants. Your ultimate goal is to reveal the guarded secrets of the lost civilization. Your heavy truck is the only hope. You will need it to travel, earn your lining and fight your way through the perilous areas. It’s crucial that you continuously upgrade your truck. Your ability to equip smartly your “iron buddy” will make or break the success of your journey. So, go to towns and villages, trade with them, help them and you are sure to raise the cash required for powerful weapon and new gadgets.

Hard Truck Apocalypse review

By davidchurch posted 8th February

This game is decent, but not great. It fits in nicely in its niche market, but there are a lot of major flaws that drag it down. If you liked the Interstate series, Car Wars, or the Hard Truck series then you'll probably like it, but it was kicked out the door way too early. The waste of potential really sours the experience.

Pros: The vehicular combat is a lot of fun, the customizable trucks with three distinct weapon types allow for good variety, and the branching story gives it a great deal of replayability. The graphics are pretty enough, the sound and music are decent, and the locations are varied enough to keep things from getting dull.

Cons: The voice acting and translations range from mediocre to terrible, clipping issues will have you loading a save game more often than the combat will, occasional crashes will destroy all of your progress if you don't quicksave a lot (there is no autosave function), the game doesn't close properly when you exit (which required you to close the process in Task Manager and also prevents the game from saving most of your settings), the world doesn't really have a post-apocalypse theme beyond the occasional scattered ruined buildings (if they didn't constantly tell you about it, you'd probably think this was just bizarro Europe), the roads are winding and rarely allow you to get the most out of the combat engine, the AI is terrible (you will frequently see friendly units stuck in the road (escort missions are hell) and enemies beeline towards you regardless of what's in their way, making them easy to avoid outright), and the difficulty scaling means that if you find a really good gun then every bandit in the world suddenly has 1 hit kill plasma cannons (which also makes escort missions hell). You can try to cope with the difficulty scaling by skipping the expensive gear, but the scripted battles will punish you for that instead. Catch 20, really.

A decent enough vehicle combat game set in the post apocalypse. If you like the genre a lot, I suppose it's worth it, though there are better games out there. At the very least, it's an enjoyable way to waste small chunks of time.

A very surprising game. Hard Truck Apocalypse is an open world, car combat game, taking place in a Mad Max type post apocalyptic setting.

Gameplay is fairly standard car combat fare(if you can remember how it was). Though the interesting part is upgrading your rig from a simple truck to a wasteland tank. You collect money by killing enemies and picking up parts from their destroyed vehicles and also interestingly from trading from settlement to settlement.

So you cruise around the wasteland trading from village to village, taking on side quests and upgrading as you go. The game is a mix between Pirates and Twisted Metal and is actually worth checking out if you're a fan of open world games or car combat.

Good for the fans of the Hard Truck series, and for those who like post-apocalyptic atmosphere. There's not a game like this one, so you may want to give it a try. Graphics look fine, too.

Would be nice if there was a sequel.

Hard Truck Apocalypse is perhaps one of the most absurd title of any game in my collection - I mean have you ever driven a soft truck and what is a truck apocalypse? The day when only electric vehicles of a certain size are allowed by law because of new environmental laws? So the title is great and the game is OK. Boxy graphics and privateering around the the wastelands is fine and dandy until someone gets hurt. No major bug issues, runs well and is moderately fun.

Truck driving in a post apocalyptic world. Carry out various missions delivering stuff while engaging in vehicular combat. It sounds better than it is in practice, but that doesn't mean that the game is a waste of time being an enjoyable time waster.

Trade, drive & shoot. Original humble.

A mix between Interstate series, Smuggler's Run, Rage car scenes and AIM series.

Nice concepts and gameplay, as others have said this title isn't for everyone only for thought smugglers.

The only i miss it's more polished physics and graphics in trades/cutscenes.

The concept behind the game is a good one but it is unfortunately pretty poor with its execution. I was expecting a bit more polish from Targem Games considering the quality of their most recent title (Insane 2) but everything about this game ends up feeling incredibly mediocre. Still worth 20p as part of the 1C Company collection in the sale though I guess!

Elite lite on the road! Four stars by a happy (cheap) truck privateer.

Graphics are cardboard box like, but stylish while simple. The whole game has got character allthough you can feel the lack of funding as well. This is a gem on a budget nonetheless.

To reach a modern resolution of 1920x1080 I had to tinker with the config textfile. But then I was also able to enjoy it in flawless 3d. (Also in real 3d with a third party driver by the way.)

If you know what you get for your money (check out some videos on the tube) I recommend to shell out the 5 bucks.

Hard Truck Apocalypse is an interesting little game. It's not spectacular. The game consists of a hideous story, doing lots of missions, lots of trading, and lots of random spawning enemies. The story is absolutely terrible, and the dialogue is painful. It's obviously a Russian translation from the original dialogue, but you'd think that the actors could have gotten simple phrases like "Is that the best you've got?" rather than "Is it the best you have got?" Nevertheless, if you can survive the terrible story you might find a game that can suck you in if you've got a knack for collecting/upgrading stuff. Personally they've got me totally trapped. The majority of the quite terrible but I really enjoy upgrading my truck and buying new weapons. If you're into a Russian made game that revolves around driving an armored truck through lands full of random-spawning vagabonds, then this is THE game for you.

This is not a game I would universally recommend, but I got a kick out of it. If you can imagine a watered down Space Rangers crossed with Mad Max, you're half way there.

Rating 3.5 stars.

Pros:

- A largely unique concept reasonably executed by an indie studio.

- Decent, frequent combat.

- Fun progressing to bigger and better rigs.

- A decent amount of weapons and equipment to try out.

Cons:

- Uninteresting story, poor voice acting.

- Mediocre graphics and sound.

- Enemies spawn rather than roam.

- Vehicles move too slowly.

- Maps are bland and don't do anything to encourage player exploration.

I reviewed the standalone expansion called Rise of Clans earlier than this, so You could refer to that game for my review. But the original(this one) seem to be better in game flow compared to RoC, also less annoying time limit on missions. as Lord Zeon said this game's story isn't great. Some dialogues are translated from Russian, like "Your ass is a grass!" or something don't really make sense. besides, It's a good driving/combat game with Post-Apocalyptic theme and bandits to blow up. also I recommend playing this instead of Rise of Clans.
