Homefront Express 870 Shotgun review

By cl4ym4n posted 9th April

It's quite unfortunate that the trend with DLCs these days seems to go more and more towards cutting out game content and selling it bit by bit post-launch. THQ is known for loving to release DLCs, especially for their Warhammer series, so it wasn't surprising that Homefront pre-orders were advertised with timed exclusive in-game items and it was just a matter of time until some of them would get thrown at the masses - like the Express 870 Shotgun.

It isn't a gun you NEED to have, but in various situations it could come in handy. However, the problem with DLCs like this one is the fact that they aren't cosmetical items, but instead are real, usable weapons that can greatly affect your and other players gaming experience. If the enemies have weapons that you don't have, it can affect the outcome of a match. In simple words: It creates an unbalance and an unfair advantage. And that's why I despise game-changing DLCs like this one.

Fortunately, THQ didn't decide to release even more Pay2Win-DLCs, which isn't really surprising, considering how poorly rated the game was. Creating DLCs and releasing them probably wouldn't have paid off as the multiplayer portion of Homefront is pretty much dead by now and only populated by a few hardcore fans.

Went into a server with this, awesome it was. This is a great gun to have, some servers don't allow it but you'll find most don't have an issue.

This shotgun is great at close-range combat, while in long range it doesn't do a great job. Its a bit too overpowered, and some servers even disallow using it.

While it may not seem the most effective weapon in a game dominated by snipers and assualt rifles this little beauty sets itself apart. With deadly power up close, 1 shot 1 kill, it's the perfect tool to run into a control point with.

I found myself running with it for a couple of matches and rarely if ever got killed at close range because even if someone spots you first as long as you can get an accurate shot off you should win the encounter.

Obviously mid and long range are pointless on it but as a gun for running into buildings or built up areas it's just brilliant the most amazing thing is that shotguns weren't in the game by default.

Bottom line easily worth the 69p for the up close domination.
