Genesis Rising

Rating: 3.4 (109 votes cast)

3000 years in the future, mankind has carved out a bloody path dominating the known Universe. Considering themselves a divine race and beyond reproach as species, they view all races as inferior. With fleets of organic starships genetically engineered for war, humanity sets out to conquer the last remaining independent galaxy – The Universal Heart. As Captain Iconah, you are commissioned to uncover the location and purpose of the Universe Heart. Take command of a living fleet altering your starship’s DNA in real-time as you grant them new and powerful abilities. The Universal Crusade has just begun!

  • Genesis Rising is a space RTS that incorporates the best elements of role playing games, immersing the player in a rich back story and drawing them into an epic crusade that they won’t soon forget.
  • The non linear single player campaign is comprised of over 30 branching missions that unfold as choices are made based on the actions you take.
  • Resource gathering, technology upgrades and combat are refined, making Genesis Rising accessible to even the most novice RTS players.
  • A co-op mode in which two players can work together and control one fleet!
  • All of the 20+ gene based organic ships in the game can be customized with over 50 different weapons and abilities; giving the player thousands of possible combinations to choose from when constructing a fleet.
  • As genes are inserted, ship models will morph in real time to reflect the choices that you make!
  • Many non-player character alien races share the vast emptiness of space with Humankind. Make alliances with other races to secure their support and technology, or purge them completely and take whatever you want!
  • Expand your genetic capabilities through the invasion of enemy vessel, steal unsuspecting technology and maximize your gene bank’s diversity.
  • Change genetic makeup on-the-fly and adjust your approach based on your enemy’s fleet; recycling unused genes to meet any demand.
  • Gamespy Multiplayer featuring 12-player support and many multiplayer maps on which to flex your dominance!

The universal resource in the game is Blood Air, which in addition to genes can be harvested from the lifeless carcasses of organic ships.

While this is an interesting concept of being able to loot in an RTS to make your ship better, I believe the game is a little too generic for my taste. A little bit more free form play and I think this would have been an amazing game.

My First Impressions after playing the game for a few hours.

I got this game during the sale for $1.24 and I would have paid $10 or more. I almost feel guilty for getting such a "Bloody" good game for so little money. It is similar to homeworld but not as complex. You are basically always on the same level as your objective or enemy. Its not a bad thing because you can just focus on selecting the different "weapons" to equip and attack with instead of worrying about advanced tactics ect. The game has great graphics and for some reason they remind me of the art stlye in the FPS PREY.

The thing that makes Genisis Rising's unique and worth buying IMO is the twist of having living ships that leech blood and dna/genes from the enemy to refill health or earn new equipment and skills. Sometimes when you destroy another living ship it explodes in a huge spray of blood ! Its crazy, Its like if Vampires designed ships for space travel these would be the result. You can also purchase different "upgrades" with blood. Blood is the currency in GR and Its really a creative idea that works well in the game. I can't believe I never heard of this game before because its is well made, fun to play and there's nothing else out there quite like it. Yeah, it a gimmick but it a good one that makes this game interesting.

The story even has a choice to be good/evil that effects how the NPC's react to you. The voices and character models are a mixed bag but nothing to really complain about. The ship designs are really good and as you equip new genes they actually morph to show the new weapon "growing" out of them.

Genesis Rising should have been a lot more popular than it was because it offers something new to the Space RTS genre. It also has mutiplayer and skirmish modes. I doubt theres anyone playing MP but I'm interested in skirmish and i imagine that will add some additional playtime to the game.

If you want a deep trading/fighting/exploring type game well there plenty of those out there but if you are looking for something different and at a great low price I recommend Genesis Rising. I can tell the developers really put some time into making this game. Its a shame the game was not popular enough for a GR 2 because theres some great ideas here.

So I say give the game a try. Its worth the money and although Its not the best game ever, it's one thats worth playing and I'm glad I took a chance on it.

I give it an 8 out of 10 so far.

NOTE: (I did have the game crash a couple of times but I think it was because of my audio driver. Sometimes there would be no sound so i would have to restart it to get it working. Other than that not major bugs so far.)

One of the greatest things about Genesis Rising is it's unique plot/setting. The units upgrade/dna system is fantastic, as you can literally "suck" the abilities out of your defeated enemies carcass, and watch your ship evolve in real time.

The graphics are also great, delivering beautifully organic-shaped ships and bases.

It's a unique approach to the space strategy genre, although the strategy options makes it feel a little bit raw.

All in all, a game well worth the price, a unique piece on a gamer's collection (even if you consider bying it only for the original concept of the game).

its a different concept to be sure and if you love the homeworld games then this is definitely worth looking into. although for some reason i was having some graphical glitches with it on my ATI card, disapointing as i was enjoying it too

What a buy for $2.95 this game reminds me of titles like Homeworld where you control a fleet of ships in a 3rd person tactical view.

Yet much diffrent from Homeworld games this games technology is about BIOware Living ships that you upgrade as you harvest the resources of dead ships to gain new abilitys for your ships..

Good story line as you start out in life as a young boy thats given a ship for his birthday.

Really nice garphics which i did not except for the price. This game has depth and enjoyabilty and really worth picking up if you like RTS games :) Even tho the RTS style is old the game still brings a new element to the RTS genre by having living bioware type ships with unique abilitys. A very interesting well thought of game that im sure even the novice player can appreciate. Not boged down with miro management yet still has the depth you need to keep moving forward in the game. A top buy get it today!

A game with unique approach to units and story. Player commands the fleet of ships in a single plane of 3D space, like in Star Trek Armada. All units are organic ships which can be mutated by genes taken from destroyed enemy vessels.

Good side is that units become as unique as you want, graphic is great even in 2010, there is widescreen support out of the box, and story is somewhat interesting to drive you trough the game.

On the bad side, authors forget to include tactic elements in to this strategy game. There are no advanced commands, no formations for squadrons, or even possibility to issue command for special attack for the whole squadron at once...

Great idea, nice graphics, ok story and not so good startegy.

Certainly a different approach to the space genre. Its entertainment value is good, its just hard to really dive into a story of organic space ships. I will give them a 10 for trying something I dont think any other company would attempt.
