The Golden Horde review

I like that this game trys to set itself apart from other RTS by allowing units to be equipped with different equipment, as well as gathering of dropped equipment by slain enemies. However it means a lot more micromanagement required which does detract somewhat from the experience

Solid, but somewhat lacking

A pretty cool strategy game that manages to stand out a bit with its light roleplaying elements. For example, you can put together your own units and arm them with equipment of your choice - all of which you have to manually craft at the blacksmith's forge. You can then level up these units by fighting the enemy player or killing the hostile, respawning units that plague the roads. The graphics are pretty good, with a visual style that seems to have drawn inspiration from both fantasy and history. However, it does lack in some areas... for instance, the base-building and the resource gathering is rather simplistic and lacklustre. On the other hand, the combat is quite fun and satisfying. In the end, it could have used a bit more depth and complexity to make the overall experience more enjoyable. Still, if you're a fan of the genre you might want to check this out.

The economy in the game is fairly simple, your workers collect wood from trees and iron from an iron mine. The resources you can turn into weapons and shields through a smithy, as well as workers which you equip with the weapons. There is a barracks type building where you can create a few troop loadout types, such as a flail and shield user, or a bowman who has a shield for the boost in defense. There is an option to recruit individual workers then equip them manually, pretty handy for after taking an enemy village to boost your pop cap, rather than producing troops at the home base then marching them to the army. You can also have a few workers follow your army to loot dropped weapons from slain enemies. The few heroes are fairly strong, but not invulnerable. I tended to give heroes a horse each and let them go for villages while my army took care of the enemy army and a few workers gathered weapons.

Not the most in depth strategy game, but well worth the current price.

This was just the game i needed, a nice and historical perspective of the time of the mongolians, while depicting an realistic history also adds together the very suberb gameplay, which remind of rome total war.

Totally worth the money if you are interested in Mongolian history.
