Gettysburg: Armored Warfare review

By Fudge posted 3rd April 2012

Currently the game is fun to play, but very rough around the edges. The game will add Steam Workshop support later on, and I suggest that you take a good look at the game when that comes out.

The Developer (there is only one) is always replying to posts on the Forums. The game its self is hard to recommend right now if you can't afford it. If you can, support the Developer as he aims to patch it to be the game of his dreams.

Not done yet

For all the great ideas behind this game, the game varies from frustratingly clunky and unpolished, to completely unplayable. The creator has promised to fix it, but at this point it is really an alpha game being sold at retail.

Well its kind of a buggy mess at the moment, but considering it was done by a single person, I'd be willing to let it slide. Also helps that the dev is posting a lot in the Steam forums answering inquiries.

I'd just call it a normal average RTS with the quirks of drop in third person FPS, although a bit buggy and clunky.

A lot of potential, but its far away from finished.

First, i have to say, that this game is developed by one man, so do not expect an aaa game. All looks very old and outdated. The biggest problem is, that the game is still full of bugs, it is not easy to get into it, because it has no turorial, and often happened weird things. to say it clearly, this game is not finished in its development. But what you get in the moment is a game that is fun and have great potential. The developer is open minded for infos, how to make the game better. And he is working, to clear the bugs. I trust him and think, i will get a very good game in the end. If you can spend 10 bucks for this game, than do it, it is really something special, but keep in mind, that there is still a lot to do, till this game works perfectly.

Rough but fun, give it a chance.

This game is made by one person and published by Paradox. That basically says all there is to say. It is rough. The game in its current state should not have been released. That being said I am still enjoying it and would recommend it to people who are willing to allow the developer to work on it. The blend of futuristic weapons with the Civil war setting is one that I love. Graphics like everything else are rough. The vechilce models are nice, the characters models arent too shabby, but the animation needs work. The shooting mechanics arent bad. The game is most fun when you are in one of the vechicles. The RTS elements are simple but fine. I heard of people having lots of problems with the games, but I have to say the game has not crashed on me and the performance isnt bad. This game has great potential so I hope that the developer gets the opportunity to finish it.

Rough around the edges, but FUN

Gettysburg: AW sure has some rough edges, including choppy animation, low LOD, some unbalanced units, technical problems for some people. But it is also a load of fun, and that, to me, is way more important than the rest.

Patches are already coming out and fixing some issues people are complaining about, and with the full moddability that is going to be enabled in a few weeks, it sure will be a hidden gem.

Buy it already, and support the developer while having some fun blasting people away with the massive 64 player matches, or wait for a sale if you're a bit wary of buggy indies. But BUY it. Gettysburg: AW is a breath of fresh air in the world of computer games, and all the effort put in it has to be rewarded!

I keep hearing the game is like the "Total war" series but I find the only similarity is the distance between the camera and the soldier. When compared to "Total war", this game is a lot more simple to get in and play right of the bat. No need to worry about your armies moral or the weather effect on their stamina. However, I find that the game is really slow paced for the style of game. When playing this game, I found myself bored after 5 minutes of play which was the time it took to learn how to play it.

This game features a blend of pretty cool game ideas though. I was moderately impressed with the first person shooter mode when controlling the infantry and the tanks. The aircraft control as well as the boat control were all right but not to spectacular.

All in all "Gettysburg:Armored Warfare" has some great ideas that I've been waiting to see in future games. Good price for the game as well! Props to the game creators and keep up the good work!

Good Game

For the size of the development team it is a very good game bit confusing at the start but once you get past the first couple min of pushing buttons you will be a killing force is challenging.

It just needs a little more work! The whole concept is great, but the game is a little rough around the edges, and the game feels a bit laggy although I am playing on a GTX560Ti.

The score I am giving is based upon the promise of modding tools which surely will be amazing and the whole concept of the game.

An interesting and surprising fun game. I had my doubts about it but at £7 with mod support i didn't have much to lose and it turns out i didn't waste my money. The RTS and TPS aspects are soild and even though the game does suffer from a lack of maps (Map Editor included so not really a problem) it doesn't get boring. The game is only going to improve with the integration to Steam Workshop for all your modding needs. I can't wait to see where this goes.
