    FEATURES

“We have one chance. Find a strong place, and band together. Build our defenses. Gather supplies. Arm ourselves for the fight  and save as many souls as we can. Take back our town, our lives, our world from the hungry dark.

That wave will break over this town like a tsunami and take the last of us with them… unless we fight back.”

    Fort Zombie
is a focused-scope, casual RPG title in which the game world revolves around a single building – your fort – and the mission specific chunks of the small town that surrounds it. Instead of a major city or a vast countryside, player’s focus their efforts on building up a single structure, finding and training survivors, and venturing out into town looking for supplies.

Targeted directly at the after-work gamer, with gameplay similar to Dungeon Master meets Fallout, players take control of a particular building in town, and begin gathering the supplies and survivors needed to build it up by day and help defend it by night.

    Features

    • Choose one of three buildings – the school, the prison, and the police station – as your Fort Zombie, each one with its own strengths and weaknesses!
    • Real time movement and combat keep the tensions level high while trying to achieve objectives before your characters run out of ammunition, food, or luck!
    • Dozens of zombies, some with special abilities derived from their half-remembered lives before becoming undead!
    • Piety, Indiana, a variable 3D town, created using Kerberos’ mix-and-match tile system, for maximum replayability. PhysX® engine adds to the mayhem!
    • Dozens of town locations to search (stores, restaurants, gas stations, ruins, homes) and countless items to find and use in building up The Fort or building up your group characters (food, fuel, generators, tools, guns, etc.)
    • “Collectible” NPC survivor-families give players surprising new abilities, but you have to find them all first!

Great concept, somewhat marred by the execution. If you can ignore the dated graphics, awkward camera and an AI which can at times be it's own worst enemy then what you have is a highly replayable, fun little gem. Essentially, what we have is a true survival horror game. You play a survivor of a zombie holocaust, and must choose a base to hole up in against an approaching horde. Each day you receive a choice of missions which can be anything from rescuing fellow survivors to replenishing your food supplies. Different survivors have different talents which run from the obvious, such as a doctor or nurse improving the medical care you receive back at base, to the rather more arcane such as decreasing the odds of being caught on the way to or from a mission. This is balanced however by a need to look after their morale and physical needs such as food and medical supplies. Survivors not taken out on a mission can work on fortifying your main base against the oncoming assault by building barricades or traps, and it can be as much fun trying to design a real fortress against the horde as it is searching the city for ammo and weapons. Unfortunately the bugs can at times get frustrating. While on missions the AI for the survivors can see them get stuck on various fences, cars and doorways. Sometimes they will attack zombies, other times they will simply stand around while getting munched on without attempting to defend themselves. The zombie AI itself is little better; sometimes they will come running at you from across the map, other times you can be standing right next to one and it won't react, despite them supposedly being attracted by gunfire. Where this can really bite is the final mission itself. When all goes well you are given a climactic last stand battle against an almost unstoppable horde as you put your defence plan into action. Equally however you can end up simply slaughtering the zombies one by one as they try and fail to navigate a stairwell, or watching a fellow survivor blast apart your carefully placed barricades for no discernable reason. Nonetheless, this remains a highly replayable and fun game provided you don't mind the occasional snafu.

The game was released a little early as far as bugs and crashes go, but that helped things move along quickly because the community helped flush out all the issues. Now especially with the fixes brought by this latest patch (bringing the game to 1.04), there is hardly anything to get in the way of fun! I find this game more enjoyable than Left 4 Dead because its more than just who can shoot the most zombies. This game is about survival! Fortifying bases, assigning duties to survivors, resource gathering, etc. This is the kind of zombie game that we need, not more Left 4 Dead type games (although those do have their place). Come to think of it, this game is like The Last Stand 2, but even better! Absolutely worth $10 bucks

Fort Zombie, as a concept, is rather amazing. I will be the first to admit that I had high hopes from the team that created and wrote my favorite 4X strategy games - Sword of the Stars. I followed Fort Zombie's development religiously, and I was well-aware that it was actually pieced from parts of a game that Kerberos has not yet finished (another game I have high hopes for). So when I paid my $10, I knew what I was getting into. Now the actually execution of the game seems to be pretty interesting, the optimization of the graphics system makes the game pretty much unplayable on my mid-range system. While most of the system specs for my computer are equal to or higher than the recommended specs, my Video Card is only 256 MB (they ask for 512). This isn't kidding. Despite the rather older looking visuals (some say ugly, but the game is more unpolished than ugly) the graphics are fairly system intensive. Again, this must have to do with optimization - although I can play Dragon Age on medium, I was forced to lower Fort Zombie to an unacceptable level to be able to play the game without major lag or stuttering (something that makes running from or killing zombies rather hard). There are some tricks that improve lag - like zooming fully in to your character and then slowly circling the camera (this had to do with the fact that levels loaded as you "saw" them and you could pre-load the level this way) - but they still did not allow me to reliably play the game. I did encounter some CTD and other crash bugs, but this wasn't all that frequent. Otherwise, there is a pretty interesting game in there if I could access it. What I did get to play, clearing a fort, going out on missions, allocating time and resources to protecting the fort versus finding more weapons and supplies, was all very fun. The game looks casual, but I would say that it is not - it is pretty difficult and hardcore strategy. I would even dare say that it is a graphically intense "roguelike" much like Dwarf Fortress or Dungeon Crawl, that gives the play a ton of freedom, but enough freedom to finally mess up and possibly lose (however, unlike Dungeon Crawl, Fort Zombie allows you to save and reload). So FZ is a difficult game that allows you to use trial and error and "die" in entertaining ways, only to reload or restart to try again. That the game has such a fun concept that people WANT to try again, shows a testament to the system. I just wish I could access the system without the crippling lag.

First, bear in mind this game was a spin off from another game in development. Get past the occasional bug, the tendency of the game to run choppily on many systems that meet or exceed the requirements, and you still have an innovative and enjoyable spin on the zombie survival action game. A few more patches and this game would be amazing (if you can get over graphics that feel five and sometimes ten years old). This is a RPG, not your typical first person shooter, but just the same consider how many times we've all wanted to pick a spot and defend it against a zombie horde. In Fort Zombie you get to do just that, improving your 'fort', gathering supplies and survivors, all while awaiting the inevitable horde. For $10 this was a great purchase.

Yes Fort Zombie does have bugs, but can anyone name a game that didn't have bugs in its first version. The game doesn't have the best graphics or performance but it is a solid game, it is addicting and from experience, you will get a level of support from the Developers that I haven't seen anywhere else. anyway V 1.00 not that great, V 1.03 AWESOME, what ever update we're at in 2 yrs: The best game you will ever play, period. This game is rough around the edges, but it is being made better, even as we speak.

The game in itself aint bad, real time action, fight only if you cant run, and ammo/food things that really pisses off in other games like RE are mastered here, IT Is fun to play, when the game dont freeze or close by itself, which happens around after each day, or less. Its a shame ppl can sell a disfunctional game whitout being sued. But here a review on the Game: Graphic:6/10 better than Zelda 64, less than mario cart Sound:9/10Good music whit keep the players on his toes ready to run for his life. controls:Okay, not being able to SAVE really suck, but movements are okay and instintives, easy to understand.a few bug whit the camera but its mostly positive. Price:0/10 When you Sell a game , you test it before because you dont want to sell a bad product, which is the phase they dint do.If the game could work perfectly whitout crashing the game could be at 60$ US and still be a bargain, but is not. Overall:if you like to immerge yourself into the caracther this game will rock, but dont be afraid to restart from the very begining often. It will happen. I personally buyed this game as soon as i saw a video on youtube showing a 11year old boy firing at the undeads, if zombies really appears on earth , this game is the training manual.

Fort Zombie is a game that is trying to be a good but there is many problems that make this over all bad there is endless bug, lots of lag even on a good PC, very bad sound which are just gun shot and when you get bit.the camera and shooting is very poor and in small spaces makes it very hard. Also when I go on to the mission tab the hole thing shuts down. I think with some patches this game could be fun and enjoyable but as it stands it is just about playable. until the problems are fix this not a game I would advise you to buy,

Tsk tsk, could have really been a good game. Some may say that it's just $10.00, but it's about the principle of the purchase, not the price. Burger joints sell burgers for, say, $1.50 each. At that price, you are paying for a burger that you expect will satisfy you; the fact that the seller is offering something for sale should carry a moral promise (emphasis on should) that you will be satisfied to an extent that the price connotes. This game costs $10, but the satisfaction to be derived here is about $2. Too bad, really. It is an interesting game - it is about survival: supplies, ammunition and shelter, which I think is the main point of a zombie movie, not the shooting. This game did not miss that point. It did, however, miss the point that A VIDEO GAME HAS TO WORK for it to be played satisfactorily. This game crashes every other mission on my PC. Each mission takes about 5 minutes each. That's a lot of crashing. he graphics don't bother me that much - in fact, the crappy graphics add to the atmosphere. This is not a beautiful game. Who cares. Perhaps the only redeeming factor of this game is that it is fun. As mentioned, the game revolves around survival. In that point it succeeds.

5 stars for the gameplay, then 1 star knocked off for the somewhat dodgy graphics then instantly added back on for the low price tag. I first came across Fort Zombie when I was spending a couple of weeks visiting a friend. She had it and it looked interesting and fun, so I played it. Then played it some more. Then I bought my own copy within a few hours of arriving home. The basic idea here is that if you were in the middle a zombie apocalypse, you wouldn't want to go out and kill as many zombies as you possibly could. All you'd really want to do would be survive, and the fewer zombies you had to encounter along the way the better. Sure, you can't get anywhere in Fort Zombie without killing zombies, but that's not the focus. If you can manage to sneak past a zombie without it noticing you then so much the better. Not only do you retain your precious ammo, but you don't run the risk of the noise of gunfire attracting more zombies. The stealth element works surprisingly well, in that the penalty for being spotted is big enough that you try to avoid it but not so big as to really ruin your day. Indeed, game balance throughout is well thought through. Ammo is plentiful enough that you'll have enough if you're careful, but scarce enough that you will run out if you're not careful. Different weapons do feel like they're genuinely different and have trade-offs to be made. Do I kill this zombie with the pistol which might take 5 or 6 shots, or do I use the shotgun which will kill it quicker but be more likely to be heard by surrounding zombies? Likewise, there are trade-offs to be made in character creation with different skills and attributes. Do I want to focus on weapon skills to more efficiently take out the zombies in my way, on sneak skill to avoid the zombies in the first place, or on the spot skill to make it easier to find ammo and supplies? That there is no single right answer definitely aids replayablity, and that you do have to choose and can't be a superhuman who's talented at everything definitely helps ratchet up the tension. So that's the good, what about the bad? Well, there are definitely a few bugs and the graphics are very dated, but neither of these things stopped me from having oodles of fun with the game. Add to this the low price tag and the developer (Kerberos) with a history of providing support and updates for their games, and I highly recommend this.

Although I gave it a 3 I'd love to give this game a higher rating. It's a fun premises and has the makings of something fun and cheap with good replayability. However, this game has a terrible camera, and I've dealt with many terrible cameras in my day but this one takes the cake. Aiming will become frustrating and maneuvering will be a pain. Being able to look around is an ok idea and so is over the shoulder, though honestly I'd prefer first person view, but the camera does not lock behind you. You have to position the camera right constantly, and while doing so you have to be able to match your movements with the new direction it is facing. Not the worst on it's own though could be better, but oh god the aiming. Trying to get off good shots while positioning your character correctly and maneuvering the camera alongside the skill points in weapons needed to be proficient makes this rage inducing. I can understand that they don't want you to be a crack shot off the bat, just a common person, but when paired with this kind of camera set up it's just too much. Also it crashes quite a bit and my gaming rig is top shelf, but I suspect this to be fixed in patches and as there already is a patch I wont complain too much. It's the camera that gets me.

This might be a good game when they finish it and its a shame because this game was made for me. I dont care about graphics or intense action; most of the games I enjoy are older anyway but this game is unplayable in its current form. The camera and control movements are the worst I've ever experienced. Since the camera doesnt track behind your character you can actually run out of the frame. Also there seems to be some confusion as to whether the camera controls movement or the view. If you are walking forward and attempt to look to the left your character will begin to move to the left even though you are holding down the key to move forward. As of right now Fort Zombie is not worth ten dollars. When its completed I look forward to playing because we need more games of this type.

The game is ugly and laggy, even on a good PC. However, it is also immensely fun to play, much like Dead Rising but over a whole town. If the concept of holding a fort full of you, some traps, some survivors and a pile of guns sounds like a good idea to you then you will most likely find this game well worth the asking price.

The recent update fixed all the framerate issues. I never had too much problem before since I have a pretty good gaming rig, but this patch completely removed the few seconds of chug I had on entering a mission - now it's smooth as glass no matter how many zombies I have after me, even if I go out at night against more zombies than I have rounds to shoot. The gameplay was also improved. Zombies are more dangerous now (they lunge instead of just swing at you, so you have to keep your distance) and generators/power tools are working as intended now. Sounds are working again too, since apparently the original download had been missing some of them - the background "music" is especially a good mood setter. The really great thing is the update added a bunch of extra content (extra mission sites and new buildings and such, some new guns), which is really surprising for such an early update to a $10 game - that's Kerberos for you. The game is really quite fun. It was fun even before the patch. There is just something entertaining about raiding a fast food place, shooting up the zombified fast food worker with your 9mm, grabbing a jar of pickles and a slab of bacon, and hightailing it out before the zombies drawn in by the gunshots notice you. It isn't the traditional boring zombie shoot'em'up where you run around blowing things away, you have to pick your battles and be stealthy here. If you shoot every zombie you see you'll spend too much time looking for ammunition and never find enough fellow survivors to make the last stand. The traps are quite fun too - I especially like the Bouncer, a gas canister powered door trap that blasts a piece of metal at the zombies when they bash the door off its hinges - sending both the door and the zombies flying. Is it worth the $10? Definitely. I would have paid three times that and been happy.

Rough? Yep. Low end graphics? You betcha. Fun? Oh my goodness yes. This is not a zombie shooter. This is a zombie run the heck away-er. The latest version fixed a large number of the initial bugs, and I'm sure another update is in the works. Did I mention this game was 10 dollars? This is an experiment in form over function. Do you want shiny things or thought provoking gameplay? If you answered the prior - you might want to skip this one. If you answered the latter, this is a game worth checking out. Build up your resources, strengthen your bases defenses. RTFM. Recruit survivors. The magic zombie horde is coming. You'd best prepare yourself.

The developers chose to work on a concept that has thus far been ignored by other companies in favor of run-and-gun ad infinatum. I'm at a loss when I see a reviewer ripping this title at $10, and in most cases it is because it does not fit their mold of a $40 title. Fort Zombie is perfect for those of us who grew up fans of Night of the Living Dead and other Romero flicks. On initial release it is clunky and I think they had to meet a deadline, hmmm..like no other company has done that before? A patch is coming out today or tomorrow with further updates a usual practice from Kerberos. The graphics are no where near cutting edge, but they don't need to be. The sound, except for gunshots and background noise is misssing, due to an installer glitch, and will be fixed in the patch. The game lags on some systems (not mine) but a mix of fixes in the patch, people updating their drivers and tweaking their settings will fix it. This games entertains me and I hope and pray that the updates keep coming like with Sword of the Stars.

Best described as a game with a good concept but with very poor execution. Fort Zombie tries to do something great but the huge amount of bugs, glitches, performance issues, lack of sound ( there is no sound apart from gunshots and zombie bites) and shallow gameplay. As it is right now it is probably not even worth the small price tag but after a few patches down the line I'm sure fort zombie is more than worth the 10€.

I have to admit that I'm pleasantly surprised at the challenge and depth in this very economic and 3rd party-ish game. The zombies are tough, survival is tough, and building up to the final showdown is great fun. It takes a few tries to get the game mechanics, but the manual is very helpful and the rest you'll find out in game. Definitely a must for Zombie survival fans!

Ok what can i say about fort zombies, i won this game in a comp and have to say although it has an indie feel to it it is still full of great ideas and great gameplay. Yes the camera could be better as it can be hard to see where you are going at times but one may think this is ment as to make the game that more harder and scarier and at the end of the day the developers even say that you should run away from zombies when you can. The graphics althouhg outdated are still not too bad especially for an indie game and you can shoot individual parts off zombies which is always fun. This gets off too a slow start but give it a try and keep with it and you will see what a great title this tries to be. Worth the money imo.

I'm a Zombie Fan fiend so I decided to give this game a go. For those of you who like Zombie games you may or may not know of a Flash Game called The Last Stand and The Last Stand 2 by Armor games, Fort Zombie is like a hybrid of that and UFO Enemy Unknown/ Jagged Alliance (without the turn-based stuff). It took me a while to get it running as you have to update Microsoft .Net manager and some other plug-ins (all available on Kerebos website, their forum has all you need to get it running) The game itself is buggy as hell and is screaming out for a patch or a mod to fix some issues but its only in its infant stage so i won't hold that against it. You basically pick a generic caracter and give him a career (soldier, cop, doctor etc.) to get skills, then you pick a base and after a quick tutorial you have to run a gauntlet through a Zombie filled town to get to your chosen Fort to start the game proper. Then it becomes a race against the clock to get more survivors on your side (they don't always want to join you even if you bust your a$$ to try save them) find better weapons and pick up supplies all the while you have to assign tasks to get barricades built in your spare time (a bit like Jagged Alliance) All in all its keeping me entertained and with a couple of fixes in the future it could be a classic. IMO its worth the 10 bucks. Some nice touches to like HOI3 & Majestic 2 posters in shops. The Zombies have their own traits too like jogger zombies who are fast runners, or zombies in American Football gear who try charge you. There are also Soldier and Cop zombies who are armed, so be aware. Happy Hunting.

I do like this game quite a bit despite its drawbacks. It feels like an Indie game but has Kerberos and Paradox attached to it which is a little confusing (but seeing Sword of the Stars posters in houses is a neat touch) as Fort Zombie does not present itself as a polished and finished studio quality game. The graphics are very dated, the camera is ornery, and it runs rather choppy on my system -- which is a capable machine and can run newer games such as Overlord 2, Empire Total War and Tropico 3 with nary a framerate skip. Go figure. That being said, it is enjoyable although it is very challenging. I see what the developers were trying to do and the idea is solid but the presentation and gameplay is a bit wonky. I can forgive the flaws, however, and enjoy the game. For $10, it is a very solid and entertaining zombie shooter and strategy game. Break out the beer and pretzels, don't be a gaming snob, and have fun with Fort Zombie.
