Fun game! Needs more work to it as in its plan. Works good no glitches but, you being told what to do and not having fun sometimes. It need a free world type play. So if there was that it would be a 6 star game but its missing that.

Fate of the world is a game that makes you work for your wins, but at the same time it is not unfair because you know why you failed. I found this fact to be really enjoyable because I was able to see improvement in my own play as I went through. Also the difficulty made it so that when you did well it was really satisfying.

Destined to Lose

This is a tough game. It's fun, because of the similarity to the issues which plague reality. It's depressing because I hardly ever complete a scenario. I think the point of this game is to prepare the youth for the heart crushing reality of global warming. We will not win this fight, and so, prepare yourselves by imagining the worst case scenario imaginable, and live life as if this outcome were true, perhaps then we can begin to do something about it, and if we're lucky avoid a life of devastating surprises.

Challenging and fun game:

This game is haaaard! There are only a few missions available, and all but one start off exactly the same, but somehow it didn't get old. I was very pleased with my purchase of this game and really enjoyed the challenges it presented. I hope the creators can add more to this game with sequels!

I love this game. I learned alot about global warming and how we can stop it. some of the conclusions are pretty alarming to save the world =(. Seems like its cold fusion to rescue or sterilize India.... They should allow the euthanasia in the game as people say in the betas.

A highly interesting Magic: The Gathering clone.

By Hesusio posted 2nd August 2011

Fate of the World is, as I stated already, essentially a Magic: The Gathering clone with an environmentalist theme. Players control world regions and receive "cards" in each turn which act as decisions that can be made in that turn. The interesting thing is that the game is not necessarily competitive in that victory is achieved via conquest. In this game, victory can also be achieved by shifting the world economy to a greener, more sustainable model, even if other players are still standing.

Graphically it's very pretty, as a game like this should be considering the relatively simple gameplay. The sound and writing is of a similar high standard. All in all, I'd say while this is no doubt a casual game, it's definitely one of the more challenging and engaging casual games out there. For $10 I'd say this game is quite a steal. I highly recommend everyone try it.

Incomplete, but getting there. Fate of the World (FoTW) is a very strong example of what a good "socially conscious" game should be. Strong graphics, strong writing and a downright brilliant concept make for a great experience that takes some real work. If you want to paint the world green, form the New World Order or simply watch the modern world fall apart before your eyes, this is the game for you.

As people before me have stated, this game has a very good price. This game is unique, because there were no other games about "saving the world" this way(not as a cowboy-robot-onemanarmy) and in this depth. The game is not easy, but that's good, because this is not easy in the real world either. And with the newest patches taking the game out of it's beta stage and removing it's gamebreaking bugs, the game is well playable.

If the game was probably released a bit too soon, it is today healed of most of its bugs and totally playable. Moreover, it is still the best serious game available on the web, in my view. 10€ for this pure marvel ? It's a joke... The value of this game is far beyond this small price. I advise it to all those who are interested into... the fate of our planet.

When I first saw this I was like, "A game about environmentalism, awsome!!!" I still stand by my initial thought. Fate of the world is very in-depth game that is well worth $10.

With the latest patch, accessing the sandbox mode is easier. Besides that, you will still get a challenging game. There are many factors you have to manage which is what makes the game fun. It ranges from job creation and improving local living conditions to researching new technology and curbing global climater change.

One of the cons is that it can be overwhelming at times. The UI could be cleaner and sometimes you don't know why something is happening or how to fix it. For example, when the economy of the world started to collapse I was scrambling to find a way to fix it. Finding that out would have made it less of a frustration.

Overall, if you are into environmentalism I highly recommend this game. If you are looking for a challenge, I would as well. Either way, you totally get $10 of entertainment out of it.

Make no mistkae, this game is not "Casual" at all. It is a deep and challenging simulator of a world crisis, both ecological and economical. One playthrough isn't exaclt long (2-3 hours), but first few dozen times you will fail... miserably. Most fun comes from figuring out all the intricate interrelations, reasons and consequences.

Highly recommened for all fans of global management.

This is a beta release, and only contains one scenario (peak oil) out of several listed in the menu. Some of the functionality in the interface also seems to be lacking, with several buttons not working.

The game itself is fairly entertaining. It's like a card game where each continent gets a hand of cards, and you play all of them. You spend money to add cards to your hand, and use them to try and stop global warming. Fun gameplay mechanics, and a serious challenge. Players are forced to make tough decisions, and every action is a trade-off.

My biggest problem (which may not be a problem for others) with this product is that it is strongly biased towards viewing climate change as strictly a medium to long term concern. The game includes very optimistic estimates of real-world events (like peak oil hitting in/around 2040) that undermine the seriousness of the subject matter and reflect a generally conservative ideology. Starting in 2020 and taking place over several centuries, the game will likely not appeal to players that believe climate change is going to have a serious effect this decade.

If you are a budding green economist who wants to make a difference in national and global policy ten years from now, you will probably love this game. If you are an environmentalist hoping that this game will convince players that fast action is needed to save our planet, you will probably hate it.

Fate of the World review

I bought Fate of the World last night and have spent a good 3-4 hours on it already. Although currently most of the scenarios are still not functional, i am having a good go at the Oil crisis scenario.

The game is not going to be everyones piece of cake, basically you are the boss of the world and you have a particular challenge at hand. Each region has its own problems you need to solve and you have a limited amount of time and cash to get things done.

Each turn you decide the budget by spending your money on various "cards", each card gives you various options such as invest in new energy sources, reduce carbon emissions or improve the ecology. You can even go ahead and perform more aggressive tactics to solve larger problems such as i used to "sterilize" the Indian continent to solve the large population increase they have there.

In general though it seems they do not have an option to play in "free mode" which is disappointing, however this is probably related to the fact that there is only a certain limited amount of actions you can do anyway.

The game costs just 10$, so it is a good bargain for any casual player.
