With over 5000 destructible objects on each track and 40 deformable pieces on every car sparks are guaranteed to fly increasing the mayhem with every lap!

As the different races progress you’ll recognise which of the AI characters are your closest rivals. How you decide to take them out is up to you, like slamming them into a bridge, stealing a lead through an alternate route or Nitro boosting your way past them in the final moments.

Not really sure what there is more to say other than that you drive cars, you crash cars and it's great fun.

The basics on which the game is build upon are very solid, the physics rarely screw you over, you've got a great variety of cars , the tracks are decently detailed which causes a very nice effect when debris is flying all over the place. Keyboard controls are working absolutely fine , it's obviously not the best option but far from annoying.

Gameplay: Pretty standart racing stuff, you race in small championships with 2~6 races, each race having 3-5 laps on average. You will collect a nitro boost when doing jumps, destroying the environment or crashing other cars. At the end of each race the crashes will earn you extra cash to buy new cars or upgrade your current one.

With each won championship you also unlock extra events, these are mainly crash derby events, where your goal is to destroy as many enemy driver as possible, and stadium events. The stadium events make use of the function that you driver can be thrown through the windscreen and let you play minigames like high-jump, basketball or bowling with said mechanic.

Content: Content wise it's a great pack with many different racetracks ranging from normal race tracks to forest courses. Each theme of course got a unique feel to it with unique challanges. And ofcourse if you want to take a break from racing you still got the derby and stadium challanges.

Another thing to note is the absolutly fitting soundtrack, just like tony hawk or need for speed this game simply has nailed down it's soundtrack with songs from artists like rise agains or rob zombie.

I don't really know anything bad to say about it really, if you are a fan of arcady racing with an emphasis on destruction then you will love it. If you don't then you will likely still have fun when you lose control, fly hurtling through the air and explode when you crash into the ground.

If you liked the first Flatout, you'll probably like this too. Better graphics, more cars and so on. Lots of things to do and it's really funny to play multiplayer. It's like the original Flatout, but with more of everything!

A decent racing game. The destructibility of the cars and some of the environment is fun. One problem though is the game isn't consistent of what you can crash into. You can crash and push an RV out of the way, but a little tool shed is invincible!

The working derby are really fun.

The driving mechanics are just too arcade for my tastes. But I can recommend this to anyone that likes those arcade type games.

Flatout 2, great racing destruction fun

By Athan_Immortal posted 28th May 2012

Flatout 2 is a versatile racer, by that I mean it's a great looking game that will play on a lot of systems.

I remember being impressed that the game would play at 1920x1200 on my old 1.6ghz pentium laptop. The graphics card that was in it was equivilent to a ge-force 6800, so this game will actually play on relatively old hardware.

The destruction is fantastic. Cars plough through fences, greenhouses, contruction yards smoothly while all the bits break apart with no problem from the game engine.

The handling is a mix between arcade and physics. It's not realistic, but cars have weight, and slide with that weight as you'd expect. Races are fun, and the online games are a laugh.

Racing isn't all that Flatout does, there are also wild events such as driving down a ramp and launching your driver through the windscreen at a bullseye target, car bowling, and also destruction derby style events.

Finally the soundtrack for this game is just incredible, Nickelback, Velvet Revolver, Fallout Boy, Wolfmother, Rob Zombie and more. These guys will set your destructive crazyness to some of the best and exciting music ever in a racing game.

Would recommend to anyone :D

Works on Linux with Wine and DX9

By Gamer101 posted 23rd May 2012

The game crashes with a fresh WIne config. BUt after installing DirectX9 via winetricks, everything works incl. movies, all effects, audio, sounds, LAN gaming, Joypad, ... It just looks like a native Lionux game (Ubuntu 12.04 64 Bit, Wine 1.4).

Flatout isn't a realistic game and it doesn't try to be one. It's an arcade racer and it's a great one!

The graphics are a bit dated but still nice to look at. It features a Race mode, Derbys, and Stunt modes.

My favourite part of the game is the Multiplayer which supports LAN too. It's unbelievably fun to play the Stunt modes with friends.

A must-buy!

Flatout 2 is a very arcade-ish racing game. Don't come here expecting great physics-- come here expecting a silly, fun time. The AI can be challenging at times and the destruction is just a blast. Great if you have friends who are fans of arcade racing games and you just want to get together and mess around. Plenty of content and a good number of cars are featured, but you can get more if you find the community patches. Enjoy!

It's very much like Flatout 1, but with perhaps slightly better graphics. It's a very arcadey racing game that rewards your for destruction which provide you with money and therefore better upgrades for your car. There are also silly mini games like seeing how far you can eject your driver (yes, your driver literally leaps out the windshield and flies for hundreds of meters). If you're looking for more of the same, then by all means get this one too.

Flatout 2, a review

By NeBy posted 19th December 2011

Flatout 2 is themed more on the street racing/import and pimp-your-car tuner scene than its predecessor. This is not a bad thing for those that like these kind of races, though I personally liked the 'rusty Chevvy that bangs against other cars out in the open'-feel a bit more. Luckily, there is still some tracks in Flatout 2 who do exactly that, so just banging your dirty car into smithereens is still possible, and for sure the graphics - while not up to the level of the ultra-realistic standards of the very latest car-racing games - are much improved from Flatout 1. Also the rag-doll physics have much improved, which is also important for the 'mini-games' like where you throw your driver out of your window the furthest possible. And another notable change is the tire grip; players can now take more control of their car, worrying less about skidding in tight turns. The game has three car classes: derby, race and street, and you can play many different cars on a lot of different tracks, so there is no shortage of choice.

All in all, this is a decent car-racing game and a good buy if you're looking to just have some fun, and not ultra-realism. Especially the fact that it works without problem on LAN, and you can race against eachother that way with some friends, while smashing up your car against eachother, makes this game a pleasant and fun game-experience, with enough variety to keep you going for quite some time without getting bored.

Previously, I'd only played the PSP version of Flat Out, so I was looking forward to more of the same (but better) with the PC version. I got Flat Out 2 first as I assumed it would do pretty much the same as the first game, with hopefully more on top. Imagine my surprise, then, when I discovered that Flat Out 2 on the PC is pretty much the same game as Flat Out on the PSP: same drivers, same tracks, same challenges. I guess that, since the PSP version was the only Flat Out available for that system, calling it 'Flat Out 2' wouldn't have made much sense. Oh well.

Anyway, the PC version does look a lot better than its handheld counterpart, so I'll probably return to it now and again for a quick race. I did end up buying the first game too, just to give me some different tracks. They only cost a quid or so each, so I wasn't complaining too much...

As for the games, the challenges are fun and the races provide a good challenge. My main quibble with the one player game is the rubber-banding effect that allows the computer cars to catch up on you even when you're doing well. You can ace the first few laps and still get caught if you make a minor mistake on the last lap. I suppose the reverse is also true - the computer cars tend to bunch up, so when you're behind you can find yourself jumping from the back of the pack to the front rather quickly.

Is the game worth your money? I would say, yes, but only if you think you're going to get into the multiplayer game as well. Just looking at the number of tracks, cars and cups on offer, FlatOut 2 seems like it has a lot under its hood, but you have to bear in mind that a lot of this content feels recycled after a while. At least that's the impression I got. Nonetheless, I would probably get this game just for the sheer pleasure of driving a good car into a gas station and blowing the whole thing up. The feeling is pretty amazing and the on screen action is spectacular. It's an adrenaline-charged experience that fans of arcade racers shouldn't miss.

Short verdict: awesome paint job and horsepower, but you might not rack up a lot of mileage on this puppy.

A nice return to gritty racing. It's a step-back from the competition-only racing games that I've been playing, and puts you into the driver's seat of a car where you race with no rules. Force opponents off the road, spin them out, pit them, screw up their paint job, whatever it takes, and however far you want to go to win a race. This game is fun, and definitely worth the price that I bought it for during the summer sale. Pick it up if you're a racing fan, and you'll have fun with this title.

Starts out as a normal racing game, quickly turns into "Crash Into Everything: The Game".

It is insanely fun watching the environment and your car being slowly worn away by the constant crashing, and the figure of eight circuits can lead to ridiculous crashes and pile ups.

Graphics are quite good, as is the audio, although the soundtrack can be a bit rubbish in my opinion :P

Overall, buy it if you like racing-themed crashing simulators.

Pretty fun racing game. Even if you do not enjoy racing games, get it for the destruction part of the game since the game itself is not very costly. I mean come on, you get to force people out of their windshields. Graphics are still pretty nice and has adecent variety of cars as well as tracks. All in all nothing bad to say about this game, especially for the price.

Buy this game now!! That said, this is an excellent game and well worth the money now that it's on sale. While the graphics may be a bit dated, it is still one of the best racing games I've played.

One of the best arcade racing game on the PC! The graphics still holds up to this day, while the controls may feel floaty at first but you'll get used to it quick after a few races.

The racing is really fun and it's always a pleasure hitting your opponents cars, the damage system to your car is quite good and loved the ragdoll physics when you get thrown out of the front window on your car! There's also wacky, crazy challenges that you can play like car bowling, car vaulting, and lots more!

Highly recommended if you want a fun arcade racer!

It's a fun game. If you don't get it for the racing, which isn't the greatest in the world, get it for the destruction factor. It is fun just for the fun of blowing stuff up. Get it on sale and you won't regret it.

A fun if unspectacular racer.

Flatout 2 sets out to be a fun, exciting racing game and it achieves that goal admirably. The game is far from extraordinary and the online system leaves something to be desired (I could not figure out how to create a private online game). But for what Flatout 2 sets out to do, and it's low cost, it's very hard to say anything negative. Well worth the small investment to pick up if you like racing games.

Its a big improvement from the original FlatOut, its like, one of the best racing games ever. The graphics are improved, and even for today's standards they aren't bad at all. They really suit the game. The game features more cars than the previous game, and also more variety of tracks (better designed too).

The multiplayer is one of the best in the business too. Its very fun to play in a crashing derby with your friends, or a race. The destruction of the cars really spice up the gameplay.

From here you even get it as DRM-free, so that's a plus in itself too. Dunno what else to add, get this game for this awesome price, you won't regret it!

Very fun racing game. I enjoy the fact that you can smash up other cars and get yours smashed up as well. I have had much fun in watching the replay camera in slow motion for a humongous crash. It is also rewarding to get the lead racer to scream as they are smashed out of their windshield when you get to the side of them and force them into a tree or a building on the side of the track. -Sorry San Francisco museum about your art pieces.

You can also upgrade your cars with prize money. And there are great side games you can unlock and play. Me and my brother had lots of fun doing the bowling one. You drive your car and then crash your guy out of the windshield and try to set your guy shooting out in a way so he knocks down the bowling pins. There is a bean bag toss also. This is just a fun and funny game.

It may be less realistic than other racing games that aim at pure racing simulation but this is great for mayhem and you can get some spectacular crashes at high speed. People and parts of cars go flying. And it is also a fun race game if you don't want to smash yourself up. The racing ai is not stupid. It takes work to get into 1st place. It takes work to stay in 3rd place actually.
