Frozen Hearth review

By Derw23 posted 23rd December 2012

A game that is a unpolished Diamond really, the visuals are nice. But there are somethings that makes it more convincing and some points that drags the game down a bit. The micromanagment with a lot of abilities aswell as a hero that has his level up system. It brings some nice additions, a bit like Warcraft 3 but with more depth.

The thing that needs working on, that is the animations that need to be more smoother and believable. Faster paced combat animations and more depth to them, they are just stale at the moment. But it works and the longer in the missions you get and the more you play you really get into it no matter what. Its a fun game with good gameplay idéas, it just needs some more working and then It will probably be an awesome game.

Multiplayer is a feature being worked on more, so we can fight online vs players, along with more patches and more addons. This game can be a real knockout game, hopefully it will be a great game. The indie devs of Epiphany is really dedicated and work as hard as possible !

The game is cheap so its worth the money.

great ideas, poor execution

the game's visuals are quite nice, it seems epiphany games put a lot of work into them, but that's where the fun stops. the animations are quite low, especially the battle animations. the sound never drew me in either, it's not that it's a low quality, it just doesn't sound that believable. one very annoying issue is that this game was definitely not optimized to use a pc's resources properly as there's always stutter when panning around to different areas and if you decide to follow your selected units with the spacebar then you'll be in for a crawl.

the worst addition would be the 'DRM' that makes you login to a frozen hearth account just to play. afterwards you get a grace period to play offline and then it comes knocking on your door in a week's time. if people want to pirate there's no stopping them, adding stupid drm like this just makes it a pain in the ass for the legit customers.

Frozen Hearth review

Frozen Hearth seems to have taken influence from many strategy games that i liked. 7Kingdoms, Dragonshard, Kohan... I see some Warlords Battlecry 3 in it too. It fits for the micromanagement players out there also, with its variety of hero abilities that either devastate or boost the raging battle...

Frozen Hearth has unique setting and solid game play, the graphics are nice for an indie title. All in all its really fresh and nice RTS with coop campaign and multiplayer elements.
