Far Cry

Rating: 4.2 (162 votes cast)

A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushes the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels.

Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island.

With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.

Jack encounters an insider within the militia group who reveals the horrific details of the mercenaries' true intentions. He presents Jack with an unsettling choice: battle the deadliest mercenaries, or condemn the human race to a maniac's insidious agenda.

Far Cry Graphic Issue

By BioDescent009 posted 27th December 2012

Far Cry is an Awesome game! I first played it on the original Xbox and fell in love with it. A friend of mine told me that I hadn't tasted the games true creativity and feel as the Xbox game was too easy compared to the computer. Having built myself a really good machine I decided to buy the game only to find that the scenery is all white and I cant see anything.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, with Intel Core i7 CPU at 3.40GHz, 8GB of RAM, and a GTX560Ti GeForce EVGA Graphic Card and 1TB of hard drive space.

But when I go to play the game the entire landscape is all white. I don't see any ground, no trees, no walls(unless I'm touching them), nothing. After I finally get out of the white blank cave, the scenery is all white. I cant see anything there either.

Anyone know how to fix this problem? Id love to play the game but the graphic issue is killing me.

Thanks!

Far Cry - Old yet great!

After some seriously annoying compatibility problems I finally got to play the game and wow! Old yet genious FPS! You rarely feel the need to really hide from your enemies while you have 4 weapons to choose from. Still Farcry does just that! since the enemies really hunt you down if they notice you, you got to find ways to hide and kill or sneak around. Had loads of fun with this one even if the game was at its prime back in 2004.

This game is a very fun stealth shooter. Even though it's been years since the initial release, the graphics drawn through the famed CryEngine are quite impressive.

It is necessary to apply the latest 1.4 to avoid the blue screen bug.

You'd be surprised how well this game holds up to time, not only does it look great, but plays nice too. First thing you will want to do is get the game patched to the latest patch if you have 32-bit. If you have 64-bit you can patch to 3.2 and install two 64-bit fixes that make the game look amazing. If you have played any of the far cry games, come back to the original and see how it all began. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed if you enjoy older games with classic mechanics and the far cry series. With a decent story and nice gameplay, it should entertain you for a few hours.

This atmospheric and challenging First-Person Shooter holds up even today. With fairly realistic weapon and damage modelling, great tropical graphics and cunning AI, this is one engrossing (albeit occasionally frustrating) FPS experience and shouldn't be missed.

You can also use a variety of vehicles, including jeeps, hang gliders, and boats. However, these aren't as tightly integrated into the game as they could have been. For instance, jeeps are pretty much restricted to moving along on roads, because there's very little open country on the islands. You can get into some wild chase scenes, but driving around exposes you to detection, so it's usually better to go on foot, if you can. And it's certainly unnerving to see mercenaries using vehicles against you. In particular, Black Hawk helicopters will swoop over the jungle to hunt for you, and there are plenty of wild moments where you'll have to try to fight them off

Far Cry exceeded my expectations when I played it. It has large outdoor maps that give you a lot more freedom than most games of this genre - you can explore, swim around, and sometimes find other ways of dealing with problems just by the open environment itself (swim around enemies, or climb a hill and ambush your enemies from afar). There are plenty of corridor shooting as well. This is an old school shooter, that means no regenerating health or armour. That and that the difficulty level ramps up towards the end, you might have a harder time if you're used to newer FPSs, but if you're up for the challenge then this would be a great choice.

A revolutionary game in its own rights. Graphics wise, technology wise, gameplay wise - it was well ahead of its time. Even today it remains a much better game than any of the Crysis series. Of course, this was the first game to support DX 9.0c, 64-bit architecture, multicore CPUs. And then there's the AI - you feel like playing against real persons rather than some bots. Only weakness is the later parts when the monsters arrive. Still, highly recommended.

This is an excellent game for it's age. Playing this you can definitely see that it is the predecessor to Crysis. By today's standards the graphics and voice acting are very poor, but if you just want a fun shooter, go for it!

The game that actually inspired the Crysis series. Crytek's first game Far Cry became a huge inspiration for their next game Crysis. Why? Well ...

Far Cry was a linear-but-not-so-linear shooter if you follow me. You've been set a task and you have to get to your objective. Thing is, there's a huge area in most levels which you can run around in and explore if you want to take a break to take in the sights.

Back in the day, Far Cry was ground-breaking in the graphics area and it still looks decent to this day, especially when there are mods that further enhance the graphics of the CryEngine 1.

As Jack Carver, you are set a task to find your female friend and realise that you are on an island where a corporation is secretly testing on creating the perfect super human soldier.

As the Crysis story followed Far Cry, something goes wrong and you end up fighting mutant soldiers.

The game is welcoming to those who enjoyed the Crysis series.

I suppose a few years ago, this would have been a better game for me(as it was for so many avid gamers at the time) but after playing the newest games such as the new Far Cry 2, this one was a dissapointment. It had its moments running around the islands messing around but the very very poor voices and campaign acting shut this one down for me. Not to mention realism was too far in this one. Id suggest getting the second Far Cry though it has nothing to do with this one.

Far Cry is a rather nice FPS if you like Crysis-type shooters. Dynamic terrain that react to you ie. if you shoot a tree enough it will break and fall (tiiiiiimbeeeeeeeer!).

The AI is pretty good and this game can actually be hard at times.

The nice thing about it is that you have a choice when it comes to your tactics. Either you sneak up and take out enemies in close combat, stay well away using a trusty sniper rifle or any other way you like.

My main problem with Far Cry is that it gets pretty repetitive and I also find driving in the game to be rather boring (I tend to get shoot up pretty badly really fast).

In all it's still a nice FPS, Hawaii shirt aside.
