Endless Space - Admiral Edition review

If you like space and management games, this game is for you! You start on a big galaxy map with a lot of undiscovered planets. The idea behind the game is that you discover these planets and inhabit them for valuable resources and bonuses. The catch is that you have opponents who will do everything to take these planets too. To defeat those oponents, the game features a huge research tree.

I believe the game is worth buying since it's an investment for the future (hopefully). It might turn out to be the next Galactic Civilizations 2 after quite some more patching and feature adding.

In it's current state it works (some aspects like plausible democracy are not there yet) and is fun albeit a bit shallow and streamlined. Regard it as a basic platform on which great things can be done in the future if developer keeps up the pace. New features and improvements) are still added on the fly so basically the game is still in it's development stage. The good side of this fact is that players can actively participate with suggestions/ideas/code improvements.

I was a bit unpleasantly surprised that modding community, while present, hasn't produced any big notable mods yet. Mods exist but are mainly about improving on current vanilla features, adding this and that, fixing or rather trying to fix some elements of the game that don't work well, etc. Don't expect to see any big overhaul mods as of the time of my review. The reason behind this is that the game is still in it's development stage any any serious modding is not undertaken since a new patch ussually offsets a lot of things which then need to be updated (again).

I think the game will really take off after an expansion or two - when that time comes modding community will probably be very much alive and kicking and you can expect soem unforgettable gaming pleasures in 4X space game.

A wonderful 4X (xpand, xplore, xploit, xterminate) game, Endless Space has all the stuff that counts: a healthy research tree, diplomacy, spaceship upgrades, and a well-laid-out starmap. Saying it is similar to other 4X games is probably redundant, but it does feel like a combination of Ascendancy and Masters of Orion (1 or 2).

Sadly, the combat isn't done too well, and overall there's a slightly detached feel to the whole charade. However, with the game having already improved so much since its decent launch, and continued free DLC from the developers, this game is an easy recommendation whenever it's on sale.

Endless Space is a great 4X space strategy game. It is really fun and complex without being overwhelming. It has tons of content. The different civilizations are diverse and keeps the game interesting. It has amazing graphics, cool effects and impressive ship designs. The developer interaction on the official forums where you can vote on new content puts and interesting spin on things and make you feel like you are part of the development.

An awesome strategy game that can be played at your own pace. Has lots of content and lots of game play time will be spent into this.

Been playing my first game and its been well over 10+ hours.

May not be ideal for fans looking for some action. but its still worth to buy if you have played Faster Then Light

This is an interesting x4 game. It's complexity is more like Civilization 4, then 5, because it requires one to figure out a few things that aren't completely transparent at first. It also might feel intimidating because the AI is quite aggressive early on normal difficulty, but this game is a beta and has been re-balanced a few times (such as newbie difficulty having the AI toned down and changes in a few things.) While unfinished, it has an end game, functions properly, and has interesting stuff going if you like space. The combat system is a choice of actions in a limited time then hoping you pick the right counter to the enemy's card. I'd recommend this to any 4X fan or someone who can handle a bit more complicated of a 4x game.

Finally a great 4X space game!

How I have been looking. Legend of Pegasus was called back from the shelves, Space Empires was too damn complicated for a person with no patience, and Galactic Civilizations just failed. But Endless Space delivers, and it delivers in a fantastically beautiful way. Not only is the game easy to understand without feeling dumbed down, it's also so darn good looking. Of course the perfect space game is still out there somewhere, yet to be found. But Endless Space will keep you occupied for hours. Remember when you wanted to play som Civ2 as a teenager in the evening? And suddenly it was 5 a.m.? Yeah, well. This could very well happen with Endless Space. If you like 4X games and space then this is the game for you! Enjoy!

Endless Space - Admiral Edition review

This game is a nice attempt but fails in a few different areas. Firstly there are many concepts and features are not explained for example some of the technologies give you 2 "green arrows". I am assuming this is shorthand for something but I still don't know what.

It is pretty to look at and the UI is adequate but if fails overwhelmingly in the depth of the game. It is, like so many games these days, shallow. Once you scratch the surface there is nothing beyond.

The combat is interesting but all the same, no tactical depth, eg I might want to stay at long range and if my ships are faster I should be able to do so.

In short another game with some interesting ideas, some pretty graphics and no depth.

If you have played Master of the Orion or Galactic Civilizations then you will be at home here. Endless space is a worthy successor to those Space 4X games.

GOOD:

- great interface

- great graphics for a 4X game

BAD:

- a lot of the in game concepts/technologies aren't explained (such as what each tech does)

Endless Space Review

Been a 4X Turn-based game lover most of my gaming life. Endless space is a great addition to the genre. Much better than Sword of the Stars 2 (although SotS1 was great) and is complex yet simple to understand when you play it. Wish there was more interaction with the AI, but its not too bad. At least they occasionally do deals with you that are worth it. The interface is wonderful and very cool looking. If you love the feeling of commanding a space empire, this is the game for you

Very good game

This is a really good game.

First of all the graphics are beautifull, and there are so much detail.

The strategic map are simply huge, and there are tons of plantes and star systems to explore.

Many plantes even have special resources that you need if you want to take advantage of some of your special research. Research is by the way huge, there are so much you can do, and everything have an impact on the game.. For example you can costromize your ships just like you like, but it would be a mistake only to focus on specific weapons or defence systems, you need to think ahead and try to configure your ships so that they can survive the enemys special techonlogy.

The battle itself are kind of cool.. there are 5 phases.. and intro, long range, medium range, short range, and exit cut schenes. You see your ship attack and defend it self. The battle can be effected with a kind of rock/paper/sissor card game.. you have some card that give you special ability and before each different battle type you can choose that now you want to play a defensive card, og maybe repair your ship or stuff like that.. Some cards counter the opponment and some do not.. it really are a nice feature to the game.

So far i played 10 houres and was killed most of the time due to how i configured my ships poorly and did some research. But all in all i learned quite a bit and since ther eare so many things you can do in the game then there are no correct or wrong strategy, you "just" need to adapt. My best advice for any games are the following.

expand in the start and settle on plantes with resources. You will first see the resources once you have researched mining ect. its in the right side of the tech tree and are take like 2 turns to develop.. very handy to know what plants to settle on.

protection.. always have several fleets, and spred them out since sometimes the enemy do not follow the lines inbetween planets if they have advanced techonology..

The game take some time to master, and ther eare alot to learn.. But to be honest it hink its maybe the best game of this kind i ever played.

I can highly recommend it to everyone that like this gender of game type.
