GAME SUMMARY

Elven Legacy: Ranger

Rating: 4 (133 votes cast)

The Order of Marcus, long dormant in its isolation, is expanding. The renowned ranger Cornelius, armed with his spear and trained in the arts of subterfuge, has been tasked with preparing the world of Illis for the coming of the order.

New Features Ranger Cornelius possesses a holy spear that can apply special powers to his attacks. In Elven Legacy, each unit's operation could only be performed once per turn - one move and one attack. Ranger Cornelius can now use special attributes of his sacred spear without losing his turn.  For example, he can activate a paralysing stroke and then throw the spear at the enemy. The enemy unit will not only suffer damage from the attack, but they will also be unable to move during the enemy’s turn.

Additional new features in Elven Legacy: Ranger:

  • 16 new missions
  • 3 new heroes
  • 5 unique artifacts
  • 12 new spells

Multiplayer for up to 4 players.

Get it, get it now! Turn-based strategy at its best, with wonderful animated units, a variety of missions and goals, and challenges at every corner. Not since Warlords fantasy turn-based games have been so good. Right now you can get this new entry in the venerable Elven Legacy series for a few dollars, what are you waiting for? Get it now!

Elven Legasy: Ranger gives you a dozen new missions to play with human soldiers and a ranger hero. You won't have many spells expect for the ones you get from artifacts, so close combat is more important than earlier. Ranger is also easier than the main game so rising the difficulty level is advised.

Overall the game works the same way as earlier and doesn't really add much new, but if you are looking for more of that same addicting and brilliantly working game experience, Ranger gives you 10+ hours of joy.

If you ever played Fantasy Wars (game made also by 1C Company and was made before The Elven Legacy) then you should play this one too, because the plot is linked to the story from Fantasy Wars (although you will need to have Elven Legacy insatlled). In one mission you will fight side to side with King Derek Pfeil. The game is way much easier than Fantasy Wars and a bit easier than Elven Legacy, but the maps and the plot is interesting and definetely worth playing. The usage of magic is limited (your hero is ranger with unique abilities), there are a few new artifacts and you control human army.

Because all three additions to Elven Legacy are cheap (just $10) and depending on your skills this one should give you 10-15 hours of great gameplay. Some missions on NORMAL can be easily completed to achieve GOLD victory, without any losses in units and completing all side quests, but some missions will challenge your tactical thinking.

Enjoy!!

An immense addition to the Elven Legacy game. Contains a single human campaign with a few crossroad missions that vary the enemy faced and the rewards to be gained

Level design is fabulously rich in detail and to a higher standard than the original game. New abilities add to the value of heroes in the tactical sense, while enemy AI has been cranked up, to provide even more of a challenge than in the original game.

Replayability is also good, having completed the game on easy and normal settings. I actually failed to achieve Gold victories on Easy, but on playing on Normal - had learnt enough about how the enemy AI operates and also how to make the best of the units available than my initial attempt.

Some additional music adds to a decent story, though I have to admit I dont really play EL for the story. But if you enjoy that element, you wont be disappointed by it.

A great example of taking the existing engine to the edge of its capabilities. Time spent playing has to be about 18 hrs first run. And 14 hrs on NORMAL.

Definitely an improvement on the Elven campaign of the original.

This is an expansion pack for the Elven Legacy game and is a great price (currently $10) which will get you a new campaign with some 12 or so maps. Thats about it though. You'll play with 3 new heroes, new artifacts, and some new spells. The interface and game play is exactly the same. There are no new single player maps either which was disappointing. The difficulty felt a bit easier than Elven Legacy too, so I'd suggest upping it a level from what you played on before.

Pros: Price, new campaign, new heroes.

Cons: Very little new content. About a dozen new maps in campaign is all.
