    FEATURES

The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly - killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control. No one believes they exist. No one but you.

This GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION of the smash hit Deus Ex features an all-new multiplayer mode and a new head-to-head deathmatch mode. Also included is a software development kit, so you'll be able to create both single and multiplayer missions from scratch, as well as modify existing ones.

    • Real role-playing from an immersive 3D, first-person perspective. The game includes action, character interaction and problem solving.
    • Realistic, recognizable locations. Many of the locations are built from actual blueprints of real places set in a near future scenario.
    • A game filled with people rather than monsters. This creates empathy with the game characters and enhances the realism of the game world.
    • Rich character development systems: Skills, augmentations, weapon and item selections and multiple solutions to problems ensure that no two players will end the game with similar characters.
    • Multiple solutions to problems and character development choices ensure a varied game experience. Talk, fight or use skills to get past obstacles as the game adapts itself to your style of play.
    • Strong storyline: Built on "real" conspiracy theories, current events and expected advancements in technology. If it's in the game, someone, somewhere believes it.

This game, is simply amazing. It plays like a first-person shooter but it really offers so very much more. Plot, characters, a skill system, and a very reactive world make it an enthralling experience. Again, it is a first person shooter but it is far more "System Shock" than "Duke Nukem 3D". After playing for awhile through a few systems I really have nothing bad to say about it. Probably the highlight of the game for me has been how well the whole world reacts to your choices. What you say in conversations, how you act around others in the world and the manner in which you solve the problems all effect the way other characters will respond to you. Just as an example, when first walking around HQ early in the game I wandered into the ladies bathroom; much to the annoyance of the secretary in it at the time. Later, at the end of my boss' briefing he asked me to stay out of the women's room in the future. There is so many more examples of course but I don't want to give away any of the story. That's right, this game packs a real juicy plot. Finally, I'd like to point out that this game really delivers on its promise to offer multiple solutions to problems. Few games I've played have ever truly responded to a players decision to try different strategies like this one. I passed on try this game many times before eventually giving in and I wish I hadn't. I can't recommend enough that you give it a whirl if you too have been considering it but passing in the past. You won't regret it.

If you have never played Deus Ex then you owe it to yourself to do so. It is without a doubt one of the best games ever made. While at first if appears to be just another sci-fi shooter, it soon turns out to be so much more than that. It is a game which is almost endlessly replayable, with numerous ways to get through almost every situation and with so many choices leading to seriously different consequences depending on what you choose you will almost certainly be replaying this game again and again. While Deus Ex is a little old, as a result the graphics and some gameplay elements are a bit dated but if you can tolerate that then you will not have a problem! There are a couple of mods that improve the graphics out there or in development so graphicly you can make up for that. But graphics are unimportant when considering such a GREAT game.
