GAME SUMMARY

Dark Void™ Zero

Rating: 3.8 (46 votes cast)

Rise On! After 20 years, the legendary lost project “Dark Void” is back!  To commemorate the game’s humble origins, Capcom has commissioned the recreation of the original 8-bit classic, now re-titled “Dark Void Zero”.

In this critically acclaimed 8-bit de-make, you play as Rusty, warrior test-pilot and Nikola Tesla’s trusted friend.  With the help of your state-of-the-art rocket pack, blast through three deliciously retro levels of baddies in your quest to close Portal X and save the human race!

And don’t forget!  Like its parent game, Dark Void Zero features an award-worthy soundtrack created and performed by famed Battlestar Galactica composer Bear McCreary.

Dark Void™ Zero on PC:The fate of the human race rests in your hands!  Rise On!

FEATURES:

  • Strap on Tesla's first prototype ROCKET PACK and take control of 5 experimental weapons!
  • Three levels of intense sci-fi, sidescrolling action!
  • LOCAL LEADERBOARDS: Top scores! Can you be the best?
  • PC ALTERNATE ENDINGS: What's this? Two brand-new never-before-seen endings? Only the best of the best will survive to see them!
  • RETRO: 8-bit graphics and "De-Mastered" Dark Void Zero score by Bear McCreary!
  • GAMEPAD Support: Xbox 360 Controller for Windows supported. (Generic gamepads with analog sticks may also work, though are not officially supported.)

Dark Void™ Zero review

By Minishodin posted 11th December 2011

8-bit is cool, it's hip, it's a TV dinner! But seriously 8-bit re/de-makes are a valid way of making game now a-days and as an 8-bit gamer from back in the day I don't mind it, SMS/NES gamers represent, *ahem* sorry. The game has 8-bit graphics, as you would guess, and 8-bit chiptunes. For 8-bit is sounds and looks great. The controls are better than the real game (Dark Void) and feels almost like Contra. The game play is fun, shoot, grab keys, shoot some more, fly wit the jet pack, shoot more. Simple good, fun. The only draw back is length, three real levels and that it. The game's so short I feel it should have been included with Dark Void as a free gift, but hey, I'm not Capcom so.... One thing does feel odd, Securom activation on an 8-bit game. Just feels wrong. All and all, a short throw-back that offers a couple of hours of fun. Number of times I said 8-bit: 7, so close.

A very, very good game. Controls are kind of ankward on PC, and the game is short (only three levels), but it's also a very good jump into the 8-bit era.

A very good old-school styled game, complete with 8-bit visuals, sound and simple yet engaging controls. It's easy and intuitive to pick up and play, yet challenging enough to master. A very good game for everyone, both 8-bit veterans and new comers.
