Drakensang Phileasson’s Secret

Rating: 4.2 (209 votes cast)

"Phileasson's Secret" continues the popular Drakensang franchise with an epic new chapter. Phileasson is one of the most important characters in the world of "The Dark Eye" and his story is very popular among pen & paper fans, fitting perfectly within the Drakensang series.

Ending some weeks before the events of 'River of Time', the "Phileasson Campaign" enjoys a similar setting and atmosphere, creating a great opportunity for expanding the adventures of the famous Thorwaler Phileasson.

"The River of Time" has already introduced the river itself, dubious pirates and many secrets which can be connected to the "Phileasson Campaign", making this 'Add-On' very authentic and a natural continuation of the unique world of Aventuria.
Features

  • Powerful new weapons and items to discover.
  • New monsters giving the player extra challenges.
  • A huge new location with a completely unique setting.
  • Many new quests, supported by top quality cutscenes.

Drakensang Phileasson’s Secret review

Nice addition to The River of Time. Yes, it is more action oriented. However, action is something The Dark Eye and The River of Time kind of lacked. I think this expansion actually makes The River of Time more appealing to players with different tastes of RPG.

Enjoyable extension to D:RoT but a little too heavy on the fighting and light on the roleplaying. Nonetheless for fans of RPGs, this is a worthy extension of your time in the world of Drakensang. More please

Drakensang Phileasson’s Secret review

I have seen many harsh criticism about Phileasons' secret by some; that it doesn't have many puzzles or riddles, is only a battle-fest, that there is not much in regard to buying new stuff, etc. Now, those are partially correct; it IS more geared towards fighting, and it doesn't have all that much new stuff to buy in it, but people...it's just an expansion. A medium expansion at that - or a large DLC, depending on how you look at it. You can't want the same thing of an expansion as of the game itself. Compare this to the horse-armor of Oblivion, and ask yourself if it's really that bad, then. ;-p And frankly, while I didn't finish it yet, thusfar I rather like it. It doesn't have to have much riddles; some action with battles/fighting is just fine too, for me. And I already have a lot of stuff bought, so it isn't really a hindrance that you don't get a zillion new things. And…well, it 's just pretty no-brainer-popcorn-fun, as of yet.

It *IS* true that, compared to the original game, I almost paid as much for the expansion as for the game, so one could complain about that. Both cost less than 10 euro's, but the expansion is far smaller, true. But then again, I guess the game was in its second life cyclus, or I got it really cheap in the Benelux, for some reason or another. But to be honest, less than 10 euro was a bargain for the original game; it's worth much more. So: if you're not really into Drakensang, or have huge expectations of the expansion, or think 10 euro's is much: don't buy it, or wait until the price drops. For those who enjoyed the two Drakensangs' games, want to play more, and aren't focused on getting lots of riddles and large amounts of new stuff, I would recommend it. The expansion is quite all-right, actually. Not superb (sometimes the dubbed-voices are a bit too soft), but not crap either, IMHO.

Great expansion, lots of actions, the same high-quality, highly enjoyable combat system, and a new areas to explore. I am a big fan of drakensang so that one was a must buy for me, and I would recommend it for anyone who played and enjoyed the original games. For the price of admission, it is a no-brainer. 4 out of 5 stars.

Ok I just finished playing through this expansion. Its a nice experience in some ways. Lots of action, fights and a new area to experience. I would give it a 3 out of 5.

The voices on the characters sound a little indistinct and far away, definitely not the best quality voice overs. I liked that it was a fairly straight forward adventure with not too much brain strain, the main game has challenges enough. However I thought the fights, boss fights were quite challenging at times which many will love.

I was a bit disappointed because the new area brings some new characters who are wearing some lovely dresses but the only armour you get from this expansion is not to my taste, more for the male members of my party. Bit of a bummer :( The sword is ok but also quite plain, I prefer the ones from the main game so dont get this expansion hoping for some shiny new toys!

I would think anyone who is a big fan of drakensang will enjoy this expansion, it filled a few hours for me in between other games.

It gets an 'ok' from me.
