My review

By ayunox posted 1st May

This game is not like the old ones DS1 or DS2 its a bit different but its good. The graphic is really good and you can also mod it up if you like (with FX injector for example). The gameplay is not really good with mouse and keyboard therefore i reccomend a gamepad preferably the xbox 360 pad for pc. You should not expect a epic storyline with animations etc. its just a gathering of some sketchs but anyway, its still good :). The sketchs are not bad and looks good and you can follow the storyline perfectly.

My personal note to this game is 72/100.

Its an awesome game, and you should try it when you like this genre :). Sry for my bad english btw.

typical hack and slash - what do you expect. with a story thrown in for good measure. but...still fun to play! what keeps me playing it in spite of all the good hack-and-slashes out there? its the look - and the characters. theres something dark and gothic about the setting, that makes it look more mature than Torchlight and a Victorian kind of feel vastly different fro Diablo. For some reason it reminds me of that movie Brotherhood of the Wolf. Play this game - its still a blast.

While it's not DS1 or DS2

By Gummi posted 24th March

While it is not a dungeon siege one or two, it manages to stand on it's own. It's a great atmospheric action rpg, with few bad choices turning a great game into a decent one.

For example; the loot in the game is almost pointless, you will get random loot from the monsters, but you will always replace them at fixed intervals, because following story gives you always the greater rewards.

The game reasonably challenging and the playable characters play differently enough.

A great purchase for under 10€.

This game has been thrown to flames because it didn't look like the first two of the licence (I personnally enjoyed the first one). However, it is still a fun game, as long as you're playing it with a pad (x360 is recognized).

Awesome Game

By dokbido posted 26th February

Game is awesome.

What takes so long is figureing out all the puzzles. you run around for along time trying to figure out what to do and where to go. When you go to quests is does not tell you where to go and how to find the items.

It is the same story with what ever character you pick. Just the characters change when they are talking.

I hope they add more characters, spells, items and more side quests. There is not enough quests. This is definetly not the dungeon siege I remember.

I think I am near the end of the game. I just have to knock off the second sister in the other tower and then I think I get to the mighty queen.

A solid addition to the dungeon-crawler genre, but nothing you haven't seen before. The game-play is very similar, if not identical to previous installations in the series; however picking a pre-set hero rather than creating your own like in the second game is definitely a disappointment. The story is predictable, but still enjoyable. If you enjoy dungeon-crawler games and don't mind a lack of aesthetic customization, then you should definitely try it out.

Having played Dungeon Siege 2 a very long time ago, I didn't know what to expect of the third installment. I unfortunately wasn't very into the game at all. There were elements absent from the game that make it fun and engrossing so I wasn't too happy with this game, but at a cheap €2 bargain, I can't complain even if I got a couple hours out of it!

Dungeon Siege 3 review

By PenguinJim posted 14th January

Having been a big fan of the original Dungeon Siege for its initial release oh-so-many years ago, I was disappointed to see such mediocre reviews for its long-awaited second sequel. Indeed, the demo seemed to confirm that it wasn't a particularly good game.

But the thing is, I tried the demo before I'd set up my PC with my 360 controller. Giving DS3 a second chance when it was cheap in a GG sale, and I am having quite a bit more fun than I expected! It's not quite the same as a Diablo-style game (or perhaps even "Dungeon Siege-style), but closer to other Action RPGs like Children of Mana.

The character classes are varied enough, there's a wealth of loot and skills, and there's a plot... of sorts. Sadly, the game is held back slightly by a sluggish pace. Increasing the speed and strength of the player character as well as the number of enemies would make this a far more swashbuckling adventure.

As it stands, if you have a 360 pad and any interest in the genre, DS3 is well worth picking up on sale.

This is my first Dungeon Siege game i played,so I can't compare it with the other in the series. Is a great game,so many RPG elements, and the main reason i bought this one on sales is for the graphic and the nice visual effects.

As a Dungeon Siege game this game is clearly a dissapointment but as a independent game this game is really good.(for atmosphere and writing(lore, story(altough its below Obsidian standarts, story is good for an ARPG), characters etc) alone this is a good game) I only wish that DS 3 use the same character development that used in previous games(using melee for earn warrior xp etc).

I have never been into the series so I have no idea how DS3 is compared to its prequels but I've enjoy the gameplay and story. I like it when I play it with my frieds. It's really fun. It is 5 dollars well spent.

The only thing I get fustrated is its multiplayer camera but it can easily fixed with mod I found on the net.

mediocre fun if you go in with low expectations. points deducted for the bad lock-on controls during combat (you can't control who your character locks on to) and bad optimization (at times the sound is lagging badly making the game unplayable for me, though for other people it runs fine, so it's a bit of a gamble.) If you can get it cheap, I'd say: go for it. though for anything more then 10 euro's I really can't recommend it.

Never played the older Dungeon Siege games, but I heard this is an abomination in the franchise.

Playing this I can't really see why it's so hated, sure its not the best game in the world but it is not even close to being the worst. Dialogue can be somewhat dull here and there but there are few good moments too. Overall I think it is a good game that could have been awesome with a bit more thought put into it.

I'm not going to say it...

By trjp posted 5th August 2012

I really don't care if this is anything like earlier DS games - I'm happy to take it 'as it comes'. I don't care that it has a 'consoley' feel to it either - I'm happy playing with a pad for games like this...

What I wanted was a quality 'kill - level-up - loot - equip - repeat' game tho and - well - this doesn't really QUITE make it.

The problems - as I see them - are a mixture of spiky difficulty, useless sidekick AI and a levelling-up system with skills and equipment which really never feels like it's making any difference. At one point I dumped all my gear and barely noticed any change in the damage I did (tho I was dying sooner!)

End of the day I just got bored of the grind - I need that 'carrot' of getting more powerful and FEELING more powerful and this just doesn't deliver it.

Lighting skeletons on fire in Dungeon Siege III brings back fond memories of that summer back in 2002 I spent playing Dungeon Siege with a buddy in co-op. Like its forbearers, this action-RPG is about having a good time with friends—just pick weapons and smash enemies until the loot stops flowing. DS3’s quite different, though—there are many changes, most of which I’ve grown to appreciate.

At first, I balked at being forced to play as one of four inflexible dungeon-delvers, but each well-designed character’s unique nine-ability arsenal is appealing. Each has a specific combat style—swords and shield, fire magic, arcane magic, or guns—but they all fill the same role: a self-healing damage-dealer that swaps between two stances, one best suited for fighting a single target and one for taking down groups.

much more fun after a long period without 1 and 2

By Ingootje posted 27th July 2012

The first time I only played the demo. and after Dungeon siege 2 this game was a dissapointment. This because it was so different as 1 and 2.

I eventually got the game as a gift. But after so much time, it was fun to play. And the bosses can really challenge you.

The biggest misstake they made was to call it dungeon siege 3. If it was an independent game, much more people would have liked it.

You dont have much choose in classes, but this doesn't mean it is bad. You have 4 heroes to choose, but you encounter every one of them. Party excist of 2. What a change it is to fight with guns, instead of bow and arrow. And no worries about running out of ammo.

No worries about equipment, you only see the equipment of 1 character. So no annoyance to see which character gets wich equipment. Simplicity of its best. Your compagnion has a very good AI. If it your first RPG this is the game to start with.

Your actions also changes the game and of course the ending.

Further, very nice voices to listen to.

all in All very easy, relaxing game to Play.

And to the diehard DungeonSiege player. Give it an other chance. Play a liitle further than the demo. It will surprise you.

Good action based RPG. A few different fighting stances, mixed in with some special abilities, (offensive and defensive) and utilizing when to block make the fighting fun. You get swarmed with enemies but it doesn't feel overwhelming, annoying or tedious. There's a certain kind of addicting fun slashing through enemies, and taking down bosses. There's a ton of drops by enemies so your constantly getting new equipment to improve your hero, and a lot of side quests as well in case you want to trail off the main quest. You also can get deeds based on your characters actions and accomplishments which adds significance to the choices you make when conversing with other characters. Graphics look great, but there is a slight sound bug sometimes where the speech seems to stutter/glitch up. Overall I really liked this game, would definitely recommend it.

A good RPG for 5 euros

By DoggishGnome posted 1st July 2012

The game really is worth the price, considering it was bought for 5 euros.

Maybe i enjoy it more than others, because it is my first Dungeon Siege game, therefore not having special expectations of gameplay or story.

The battles are fluid, the menus are fine, looting is fun, and the quests are enjoyable, although sometimes the same objective in some.

Still, it was clearly worth the 5 euros, and therefore it gets 4 stars, mainly because of the price, but i find i a great game after all.

Surprise!

By spamb0t posted 27th June 2012

Wow, I've been eyeing Dungeon Siege 3 for a while now and finally got it on sale. I never expected anything of this game, but I kept coming back and checking it out anyway. So I decided to give it a shot!

Actually that's not really true. I wanted it to be good, so I pretty much expected it to suck reaal bad. But you know what? It doesn't! I was so surprised over the really fluid controls, the graphics, and... how it suddenly had gone seven hours(?!?) It was morning, I hadn't slept anything and I had a meeting. That was such a nice surprise that I have to give it a forth star. Now, it's not actually a four star game, it's more like a three I guess. But a bonus star for the very nice surprise that is Dungeon Siege 3! If you like fantasy RPGs but don't want to keep on micro managing your inventory - and if you, like me, hate elves; well, then get this game! I've yet to see a single elf! Instead I got to see a pretty kick-ass chick light herself on fire and... well... kick some ass!

(So let's be fair, 3,5 out of 5, okay?)

If you don’t mind these moral issues and lacking multiplayer there’s a solid single player campaign here. Since it’s only twenty hours long, I don’t recommend paying full price for this game. It’s obviously a console port so consider grabbing a controller or just go for the console version if improved PC graphics aren't important to you. I haven't tried the new patch, so that may help somewhat. It looks like there will be downloadable content available for it. Depending on the price I may check that out.

Can you go lower than a 1? WOW! Obsidian, you've doing it again, taken a perfectly fun RPG series and turned it into total useless crap! Don't bother with this game unless you're only RPG experience is on a game console.

I would like to know who at Obsidian thinks this kind of crap is what people will buy? Is there some senior management type that only likes to play this type of useless crap? And why do they all turn out the same? I would imagine there would be some improvement, but this is worse then Never Winter Nights 2 (reminder, HUGE flop).

I take that back, actually Obsidian, you've done an excellent job of purchasing very successful game series, and pulling a con job on all those waiting for the next release. Like I said, you've destroyed YET ANOTHER successful RPG series. Pretty soon, people will get sick of the crap you release and just stop buying it. Had I known in advance this was part of and Obsidian series, I would not have bought it.

*Note-to-self* Boycott all Obsidian games, they clearly can't *CREATE* any good RPG's so they steal successful ones by underbidding the incumbent designer and turning the series into another RPG clone (i.e. FLOP).

Im glad to once again play a dungeon siege game, it still have the feeling and the simplicity i remember from the first and second DS games.

That said i wont give it full score due to the fact that they have more or less removed the party you had i single player game before. only having two caracters is not what I had expectet from them after uppgraiding eerything else so nicely.

The storyline is awsome tho, restoring the legion is a nice and really entertainging story and all the lore from the older games are still in there to put a golden ege on this allready great game.

Dungeon Siege 3 review

By burlp posted 20th June 2011

Unfortunately the Dungeon Siege series has taken a further step towards a more simplified game targetted towards more casual console gaming.

Where previous iterations of the game featured an open classless system to new game rigidly applies set character archetypes for use by the player with each having, at best limited individual customisation. For example, the fighter class uses sword and shield/2-handed swords with no variation and no real freedom to specialise in one or the other. Theoretically with such class limitations this should open the story telling possibilities with individual character stories - however this does not substantially occur with each players perspective essentially remaining the same. Arguably this could be a novel way of simply deciding on 4 'classes' however the further imposed restrictions on set weapon and armour pieces leave the gamer trying to awkwardly fit themselves into their assigned role - somewhat uncomfortably.

From a perspective as a console hack and slash it works well - if you have a controller pad. Use of the traditional mouse and keyboard is, at best, unpleasant. To play the game a console style controller is essential.

The graphics are quite good though the in-game cutscenes (particularly as seen in the first act in the manor) do not fit well and stand out as being out of place or dated.

Though offering some choice of order the game feels quite linear without the opportunities - especially as present in the first iteration - to freely explore.

Overall, as a console style hack and slash its quite reasonable fare. As a further step and follow up to the previous dungeon siege titles - it is a step back and devotees of the previous titles are likely to feel somewhat patronized by this iteration.
