Dungeonland review

By XKrieg posted 15th April

This game is a lot of fun. A decent hack and slash RPG on the heroes side and a really great "evil DM simulator" on the other side. Pretty fun to play on single player and definitely a lot of fun on multiplayer.

Heroes, monster design, especially the bosses are really hilarious. The DM's commentaries are also lots of laughs. If you're looking for a game to play with three other friends? Dungeonland is a must play.

Issues with online play

By Skyff posted 13th April

Dungeonland is a game with a lot of potential that ultimately falls flat on its face due to issues with online play.

I purchased the game to play it online with three friends, but they were all unable to connect to online games (they were not able to make the necessary work arounds function - though I was). This is a common issue that months after release still has not been fixed.

As I have no interest in playing with strangers or bots, I am writing the cost of the game off as a loss (albeit a modest one).

However, I feel obliged to say that this could be a very fun game if purchased with the intent to play on LAN or with strangers (assuming you have success with the work-around).

In dungeonland you can animate a Dungeon Master or Heroes that are trying to get his treasures.

As a dungeon master, you're trying to kill the heroes in many ways, like setting traps or breeding monsters, which you can control.

As a hero, your only goal is to get alive from the evil DMs dungeonland, which is apparently also a lunapark.

Graphics are very bright, candy-ish, but neatly done.

If you have a group to play this game with, i highly recommend it, but if you're a lone wolf, i'd like to beware you, cause the matching system is pretty bad.

Gets a 3/5 from me.

Pro: Runs on my machine although I still have XP and only a dual core 2.0.

Dungeonmaster mode is a lot of fun

Unlocking stuff doesnt need toooo much grinding/playing and can be done quickly in relation to some other games

It's a nice idea of a game that can be entertaining when you play it with friends

Contra: Multiplayer seems to have a lot of connection problems,I rarely can connect to servers at all (I think this is a problem of port forwarding)

Once I have a party it's hard to keep the players together, usually its ragequit.

The SP of the game isnt really worth mentioning

If you find a good group that gives you a real chance to win against the dungeonmaster or if you play with friends the game can be a lot of fun, otherwise it's just frustrating and takes a lot of time.

A fun co-op beat-em-up action or hack and slash game with some interesting mechanics that encourage PVP within PVE. It's got upcoming DLC, I believe, but it seems to be reasonably priced and the game is a ton of fun with friends. Some issues pop up with difficulty and random chance, but it's designed to be a mix of skill and fortuitous luck so it's really rewarding to beat a level or boss. I'd say check it out.

Fun with killing all of them

By LeonLayer posted 11th February

Dungeonland is - to put it simple - plain fun. Either if you play the heroes and try to reach the dungeons end (or at least the boss monster), or if you choose to be the dungeonmaster himself and guide and lure the adventurers to their doom.

It doesn't matter how far the heros actually come or who 'wins' in the end, this is one of the rare games, where you just play for the joy of it. You try out some different tactics than last time or play another character or a diffferent set of abilities as the DM and experiment how the game starts to feel then.

Although it has to be said, that the fun from singleplayer mode will stop after a while, you might as well start inviting your friends now!

I played Awesomenauts alot recently, looked in to this a thought it would fill my needs, and it did.

The game is hard as F*** but loads of fun. Realy like that you can be an "Game master" and control the playingfield against your friends.

This game along side Awesomenauts have been big hits for me. Cant give it less then an 5 star for the price i payed and what you get from it.

This game is amazing. The graphics are great, the game play is tense and enjoyable, and the dungeon master mode is hilarious. My only complaint is that the combat does get a tad bit repetitive. However, that is barely noticeable. I strongly recommend this game.

A fun game that allows you to play with up to 3 other friends. In this game you can play as one of the 3 heroes that adventure in a theme park themed dungeon to defeat the boss or you can play as the dungeon master to stop them! Both sides are fun to play, and the evil dungeon master even has an "Evil Laugh Button"! You would have to have no taste in gaming to dislike this game.

The game itself is pretty straight forward, in a fun way. You're part of a 3-man band with mission of bulldozing your way to the end of the dungeon. Though, your main goal is not the typical kill everything in sight like most of other similar game. The game have 3 basic heroes with different class; Mage, Warrior and Rogue. But each three of these have several alternate version and their appearance, items, perks, weapon, armor etc. can be altered via the unlockables from in game store using the in-game currency (not DLC). It ensue longer replay-value.

The control is basic, think about action RPG (WSAD for movement) but can be slightly tricky and clunky for mouse and keyboard user, since it's pretty clear it was made primarily for gamepad. Anybody who expect to use mouse only might be disappointed, but it's not a big deal.

Forget about beating the game with the AI, because they're dumb. They don't have similar awareness as human (obviously) but the deal breaker here is they can't even heal themselves. So you're basically carrying 2 dead weight which will make the game over quicker. This game is all about teamwork because like any other multiplayer dungeon title, it's very very hard. Enemy come in big waves, with different class (range attack, melee, mage etc.) and be wary with random "Danger" event, it's indeed very dangerous as it will guarantee instant game over for less skillful player. So the key here is teamwork, plan your move, cover your mate, and don't forget to shoot some sheep along the way. Yes, the game is hard but it's fair, never put you on big handicap unless if you choose to do so (another customizable game setting). This is not the type of game where you'll beat it in one go. It encourage you to come back for more, very interesting.

If you don't like to play with stranger across the internet, don't worry, the game offer local mode up to 3 player on the same machine like the good old days, provided you have 3 different input.

Despite of the excellences, the game marred by poor performance. Low fps reported by quite number of player even with latest modern machine. And also random disconnection issue and unreliable network code at the moment (check Paradox or Steam forum for more info). It's shame because the game was developed since mid last year and was pushed back one week from the original release date. Any customer who expect smooth sailing will likely left disappointed, not because of the game itself but because of other technical issue. Hopefully the developer will roll a quick fix or patch soon. I can't play this on hardest difficulty since it mean tens or hundred of minions at one time which guaranteed massive frame rate drop.

The game's hard, but decent fun. It's possible to play alone (with bots), but the game only truly shines when played with friends.

Multiplayer

The Dungeon Maestro mode is the best idea in Action-RPGs in a long time, its like a combination of dungeon lord and diablo. Very fun to play with friends, no matter if playing the hero or the villain!

What really drew me to this game was the imaginative dungeon and theme park mix which seemed like an excellent idea for a some nice dungeoncrawling with comedic touches and of course co-op.

Did it live up to my expectations?

Yes it did, the game has the wonderful graphics and quirky humor I expected. It also has well defined characters with special powers which should ensure longtime playability. There are lots of fun to be had and it´s all packaged in a bright little package of fun and mischief. Have to go back and play now! Byyyyeee!

One of the best games this year ( though it is pretty early). I've yet to play a game that is so much fun with 4 players. With 3 player co-op and the last trying to make the other thee lose it is so much fun. It has a great mix of hardcore wave mode and humor that makes a game where you lose more then you win that much more fun. Lots of re-playability and unlocks. This game can surpass magicka in it's fun factor.
