Disciples Sacred Lands unfortunately has not withstood the test of time. A clumsy interface, dark and unhelpful screens and unnecessary complexity mean this game fails to provide the modern player with an incentive to turn away from more modern, faster-paced offerings such as King's Bounty.

A classic turn-based strategy game that reminds Heroes of Might and Magic games. Good game mechanics, great fantasy setting and lot to play. Graphics might look en years old, but they do their job. For fans of turn-based or fantasy strategy games this is a solid pick.

Disciples Sacred Lands Gold is a turn base strategy game released in 1999. The game play has some similarity with Heroes of Might and Magic where you gather resources/gold, built city improvements for stronger troops/upgrades/defense, lead heroes to fight and level up plus conquering the enemy occupied cities.

The game play is superb and fun with 4 factions/races involved, each with different troops combination, thus offering some variety. For those stuck in-game, search for walk through posted on game sites. :)

The game has a native resolution of 640x480, thus it might look odd on modern hi-resolution widescreen monitor while playing full screen. One solution might be running this using a virtual machine.

I had a hell of a time trying to get this game to run on Windows 7, but once I did I found a decent gem of a strategy game. It's old-school fantasy TBS, the overland map is much like the Heroes series. You have your main town, recruit troops and heroes, research magic and conquer mines and capture resources. The battles however play out like Ogre Battle, which I found was a nice twist. You really have to plan the makeup of your army, especially when facing certain types of troops. The strategy is great, however this game does suffer from a bit of "mop-up syndrome". Every map you're basically building the exact same things and since the enemy always has a head start you'll have to turtle and build up a few armies of high level troops and then just attack the enemy boss all at once in the end. It gets repetitive, but so are the Heroes games. Certainly enjoyable enough for the price.

Brilliant art theme that goes with the dark fantasy setting. This game offers a unique experience in a rpg/turn base strategy/resource management genre that is rare to find in games. If you like fantasy theme games with a unique style of gameplay, this is a must get.

Despite dated graphics, this has impressive gameplay value. It's comparable to HOMM though less complex and with different mechanics, such as planting rods to gain control of resources and territory. Definitely worth the buy for players of Disciples 2.

It was one of the best strategy games for me until you see the second part. Compared to her a lot worse graphics (but further has a unique climate), fewer units and options, which unfortunately has a negative impact on the game. I rate this game, however, to 5 stars, because my assessment concerns the time when this game was released, and when I played it first, and then for me was the number one! If someone will play on it first time now probably will not be too thrilled.

Great TBS Game

Disciples Sacred Lands plays like something I can only compare to Heroes of Might and Magic (Except it's even easier to understand then Heroes, Believe it or not.) It's a bit more simplified, but it's still a great game that mixes elements of RPGs with TBS. It's no Civilization, nor is it a Baldurs Gate, but it does both pretty good.

Great game. Even though it is now old it is still really good to play. This shows that not all of the new games out there are the best things ever. Old games can still be extremely enjoyable.

I've spent nothing less than dozens of hours of hotseat gaming playing this ! The graphics may look ancient, but the gameplay beneath is stll as refreshing and challenging as ever ! After all those years, the Disciples series still remain an unique offer as a TBS-RPG hybrid that no one else has been able to replicate yet.

I was expecting something slightly more like King's Bounty: The Legend, where location of the units is quite important, but the game consists on sequential turns without in-combat terrain being modifiable or anything. Pretty solid and fun, none the less, with some interesting mechanics (relying on thieves to soften up enemies? Pretty fun). It is not the prettiest game, or the most polished, but it is entertaining and very worth getting. I would recommend it.

I started the adventure with the Disciples series from the second part. I found the first one here, and thought to myself, "why don't I try it for this price?". I admit, I am a great fan of the series. I like everything about it - the story, units, beautifully hand drawn pictures... Much to my surprise, I found the first installment *very* playable on its own. Yes, the graphics are a bit outdated, by after a few turns, you kind of start to forget about it. I can safely recommend this title to everyone.

This game is one of the best classical strategy games and it can really be compared with the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

Disciples has gained trust amongs the genre-lovers with its extreme depth of game play, although the graphics are a bit outdated even for the epoque you can simply not ignore the fact that the story is simply mindbreaking, the dialogues and the cinematics are very pleasant and overall the ambiance is astonishing.

Disciples Sacred Lands is a game i would recommend to everyone as the game delivers a high ammount of entertainment.
