This game is a real classic of gaming. Story is really compelling on what could have been an exhausted theme. Very interesting characters. This game fall short of perfection on a few battles that could have been more epic.

Great RPG

By dokbido posted 25th February

Excellent solo RPG arguably one of the best that has come out in the last decade. Definitely worth replaying a few times. Superb and engrossing gameplay with a rich and detailed storyline that is comparable to other great RPGs such as Baldur's Gate, Betrayal At Krondor, Fable, and The Witcher.

An expansive and fun RPG in the vein of the Baldur's Gate games, with a strong storyline and dense lore to back it up. Well-defined characters and quests, with extensive dialogue options and player customization. A stellar and genre-defining role-playing experience. Buy it!

High production values across the board, a large world to explore and some of the best Western RPG storytelling make Dragon Age Origins a must own. The varied character specific introductions and quests really set the tone for what's to come well and encourages replayability. All the DLC, put together, extends what is already a lengthy journey. Can't recommend enough.

I must admit I've yet to understand the hype about this game... Graphics are nice, but armor desing is on the overwhelming side (shoulder pauldrons rising above the head, really?). Music is very good.

The story is kinda ok, but I never really got into it. Quests are sometimes quite boring (except for a few ones). Also, some quests can only be achieved if you resolve this or that other quest in a very specific way. And some companions can only be recruited at a very specific moment (I missed one, actually, and could have missed a second one had I not paid a fortuitous attention)

Combat system is tedious, as you *must* control more than just your PC in a fight (the AI can't survive a fight without you), and some boss fights are just night on impossible, unless you select the right PC with the right gear and the right companions repeating the right moves.

Good thing I bought this title on sales! Neverwinter Nights is a waaaaay better RPG than this...

A great RPG, while the Ultimate Edition gave me some activation issues with Origin, I wanted them all on Origin launcher, it was sorted out with EA support easily enough. A great game that will make anyone who enjoys RPG elemnts with squad based play enjoyable.

Despite the game not being new anymore, it is still a solid RPG well worth the cost. I would say this is better than the second part and will bring many hours of good gaming.

There is no such thing as a flawless game, however this is the closest I've come so far to playing one. Compared to books, movies, plays, and other methods of story-telling, gaming tends to suffer the worst due to the strong focus on gameplay and lack of writers in the industry. Bioware has proven time and again they can tell a great story and incorporate great gameplay to go with it, Dragon Age Origins is no exception. I even logged off Skype when I was playing so people wouldn't pester me which I can't say for most games. This gems was and still is worth 100% of my time and if you give it a chance, it may be worth 100% of yours as well.

This is one of the finest fantasy RPGs in the classic sense. The story is engrossing, the character customization is great, the combat is fun and realtime (although it does have somewhat of a dice-roll element to it) and there is so much to do. Between DAO and all the expansions and DLC, an entire playthrough took me about 90 hours. Well worth the time and money.

A very nice package, including all released DLC for this game!

Don't forget it can be added to your Origin account.

One of the great RPGs. Great characters and character interaction, great voice acting, great gameplay/combat, a great variety of dialogue options and moral choices and one of the only functional morality systems in a Bioware game (gone are those stupid morality meters, where being "good" or "evil" moves a counter up and down. You do what you want, and the game doesn't pass judgment on you. But your characters might; i.e. if you threaten to beat up a priestess in front of a devout character who was raised by the church, he is not going to be happy with you). It's not perfect: the story is as generic as fantasy stories get (see, there's this ancient evil, and ONLY YOU can stop it!), and the "Origins" gimmick is underused (i.e. a human noble will have some different dialogue choices than an elf from the ghetto, but the differences aren't as pronounced as one might wish for), but it still towers over most of the competition.

One of the best RPGs all time in my books not because (actually lack of) it has the best graphics, or the deepest story line, or even a great combat system. It is exceptional in terms of character development of all the companions and even the antagonists. The companions felt alive and interesting, not the robots you get in games like Skyrim, they actually matter and have a major role in the game. Of course who could forget the PG13 scenes :)

I don't know if it was the hype I'd heard prior to downloading DA or simply the huge amount of experience I have with CRPGs and BioWare games in particular, but for some reason I was singularly unimpressed by Dragon Age: Origins. A lot of the writing was cliched, a sad state for a BioWare game to begin a review (as BioWare games usually lean on solid writing to prop up what would otherwise be acceptable-but-not-incredible games), and I found myself twenty five hours in to the game and not caring even the slightest about any of the characters. Gone was the giddy feeling in my heart when adventuring with Edwin (who would he insult next?!) or the bloodlust from smashing heads with Grunt- the characters felt like they were all community-developed mods, and fairly mediocre quality mods at that. The gameplay was fine, although not substantially different than the gameplay from Mass Effect. Perhaps my biggest problem was how unfavorably it stacked up *against* Mass Effect, a game two years its junior- DA had worse writing, worse voice acting, functionally equivalent gameplay, and boy was it ugly. I got my copy for $10-15 or so, a price I'm not upset I paid, but I'd say this is up there with Jade Empire as one of BioWare's weakest releases, only necessary for a fantasy nut or a BioWare completionist.

This game is like a improved baldur's gate, the mechanics are awesome, you can configure easily the party members tactics, the graphics are awesome (and the game runs fine on a medium range laptop). The Story is very nice, and you have many characters to start, each one with a prologue that gives you a intro on that specific character.

If you liked Baldur's Gate you should be playing this.

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition review

By catsicaptizzle posted 5th April 2012

Dragon Age is an incredibly deep and gripping game. I will start out by saying this game gets 5 stars for sure.

Graphics: The graphics are great. This game is a few years old at the time of this review, but it still looks fantastic. The one thing I found a little annoying was the look of the helmets and not being able to toggle their appearance. This was easily remedied by downloading a simple mod. The cinematics are great and really make you feel like you're in the game, which leads me to the next category.

Story: The story is the selling point of the game for me. The way the events transpire make the world feel so alive and real. I was always on edge just waiting to see what happens next.

Gameplay: The gameplay is good, and very challenging. For people that are not familiar with party based RPGs, such as Baldur's Gate, this game will be tough. On normal difficulty you will need to understand your parties' formation and know when to execute commands. Micro managing your party is a must. This is accomplished easily by pausing the game with the space button and queueing up commands.

Controls: The controls are similar to an rpg as you would imagine, with an additional overlay provided because of the party mechanics. You can play zoomed in like normal, or zoomed out with an isometric view. You will be switching between characters to give them commands a lot during combat.

Over all, the game tells a very interesting story in a very lively world. If you enjoy RPGs at all, I would recommend dragon age. Even if you are not familiar with the party style system, you may play on easy until you are used to it, or just leave it on easy.

This is an amazing title, and is a modern slice of what we grew to love in Bioware's early titles like Baldur's Gate and Ice Wind Dale.

If you're looking for a lot of game AND a great story, you'll find it here. This edition contains Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening and the other expansions so you've got every bit of goodness that exists for this game (outside of mods) right from the start.

Highly recommended for any RPG fans!

This masterpiece by Bioware is a game of massive scale that is everything you can ask for. Plenty of hours of gameplay and strategic planning as well as an immersive story, Dragon Age: Origins is a near-perfect fantasy RPG.

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition review

By cheese61292 posted 23rd March 2012

Dragon Age is one of the best RPGs of the decade, in true Bioware fashion; they have crafted a well though out, and well balanced universe. With engaging, side stories, lore, & superb characters, you're guaranteed to get sucked in for a thrilling 40 hours worth of gameplay.

That's not to say that the game isn't without it's flaws. The introduction takes far too long, and isn't balanced as well between the races and difficultly. More so, the game is full of tropes that Bioware loves to extort, abuse, & overuse at times. Making the game feel somewhat samey to Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect if you have played either game.

Like it's lineage though, this game can stand on it's own two feet and above most other western RPGs, as it focuses on the story, lore, & characters to drive you. Instead of a lack-luster world. Like wise, while the combat is more of Bioware's slow style, it is very engaging, and requires very few pauses in the action to accomplish complicated and fulfilling moves.

Overall, the game is superb. Just avoid Dragon Age 2 and you'll love the "series."

One of the finest RPG ever. Deep story, deep RPG elements and deep lore, also very decent graphic, decent voice acting and decent writing. It's essentiall a masterpiece that combine all the elements perfectly. Every single aspect shows that the developer has put long time into crafting it. Different races with different starts is also a very innovative concept. It satisfies both classic RPG gamers and new comers.

The only downside of this package is that it does not contain the DLC from the Collector edition.

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition review

This is a very good game. It is made by Bioware so it definitely has the same feel of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. If you played the second Dragon Age first, there is not many similarities between the few, many more similarities between this and KotOR. It is set back in old times, with magic and swords. There are several stories you can choose from all of which determine how you will perform quests. Whatever choices you make WILL effect your outcomes.

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition review

By batman116 posted 30th November 2011

One of the best RPG ever made by Bioware. The lore is so big, good graphics, great gameplay, exceptional storyline, eargasm Original Soundtrack. You will be drawn into the world without knowing it. There are so many choices and consequences in the game, from origins to paths, companions, etc. Replayability has never been this fun. Oh and you can import your saves to other DLCs or Dragon Age 2 (though I strongly suggest you NOT to get DA2 - it's a money milking game, worse than DA:O in many aspects)

A few downsides from the game are: not-so-great optimization, game runs well but some framerate drops at specific scenes; few glitches but none are game-breaking; no open-ended ending / freeroam after completing the main story; combat can be quite slow if you like fast-paced action games, but there is a balance mod to help you with that, it changes the speed and rebalance lots of stuff, makes the game even better.

Overall, if you are a fan of Western RPG, this is a must!

Live your story, the way you want!

By banks1990 posted 17th September 2011

If you played any Bioware's RPG games, then you can expect the quality of story and choices from this game. There are many ways to tackle a problem. You can talk your way out of a problem or you can just stick a blade through their throat. The choices available to you makes this game worthy of many replays.

The combat is good! It is similar to Neverwinter Nights 2 where you can pause and analyze the enemy position before unleashing some fireball their way. Warrior, Mage and Rogue are the trinity here, and each name already explain their own expertise. Choosing a Mage will give a different story experience compared to other classes. But that is for you to find out!

If you want a story-driven game like KOTOR, you won't find better game than this! With all the content included in a package, you can expect a long play length!

This game is well worth the price. I put off buying the game because I wasn't sure if I would like the story or the game play mechanics and WOW was I pleasantly surprised. The story is engrossing and the game mechanics are that right balance between being fun without being tedious.

A classic of epic scope and ambition, this game is sure to find a place in the library of a wide variety of gamers. I particularly like the multitude of possible origin stories for the protagonist, and how these early choices can shape the context and contours of the game throughout. Though this game spent several years in development, it is good to see that the time there was not wasted.

Graphics: Awesome.

Gameplay: Awesomeness Incarnate.

Story/Plot: Can't be described in this language, nor in any earthly one for that matter... but Superb+Amazing+Wonderful+Best thing this side of Knights of the Old Republic will have to do.

Sound: Superb... effects are great and the soundtrack is fantastic.

5/5 gents...

As a combined offering this is a nice deal - when you start playing the whole story line will be available to you at once and immediately. Additionally getting to start with some of the 'perks' that others had to wait for makes the learning curve easier, and/or allows you to try strategies that weren't available when you didn't start with the 'perks'.

The graphics are nice, and the gameplay is fun, not as grim or morale as the ads claim (unless you live a very sequestered life ;).

If you check some forums or websites you can get recommendations for which order to play the 'expansion packs' in, and that creates a more enjoyable and immersive story line.

It is a very large download (13 GB), expect the download to take hours (or a day) - I was getting speeds in the ~300 and y download took ~10hrs.

After purchase you get an Activation Code: & Bonus Content Code:

I have windows7 and my hardware is closer to the lower end of the recommended hardware (AMD dual core, ATI HD5500, - I've only turned down the graphic settings a little bit to keep game play smooth.
